We are thinking of selling, but DS wants one last hurrah at Disney, we were thinking of going April 2006 if I bank my points between now and then I would have a bundle, especially if I decided to borrow too. Our first trip to disney was at the poly and we loved it there, so my question is, can I book the poly this coming May which would be 11 months like the cruise or do I have to wait for seven months?

All non-DVC is 11 months. Be sure of your plans, once you take points out of DVC they cannot be used at a DVC resort if you change your mind and they have to be used by the end of your use year.

when you say they have to be all used by the end of my use year, if I have 40 something points left for 2004 (we are Dec. use year) and 215 for 2005 and 215 for 2006 could I use all 470 for a 2006 April trip to the Poly? And could I book it in May of 2005?

Ann,

Just curious why you are selling..... Hope that isn't too personal a question, I just wonder why most people sell.

we are thinking of seling since our son is getting older and we have found we like to spend most vacations on cruises. It is not cost effective anymore to use points to cruise (we are paying cash for this one coming up) we love DVC and who knows maybe we will not sell but we are toying with it seriously

You can always book the Poly with points 11 months ahead of your check out. The only limitation is availability at the Poly. So yes, you can call to book your April 2006 trip in May 2005.

Since you have a December use year, your April 2006 trip will fall within your 2005 use year. To pay for that trip, you could use points from your 2004 use year (if you bank them), points from your 2005 use year (those would be current use year points) and points from your 2006 use year (those would have to be borrowed).

So yes, assuming you bank the 40 remaining 2004 points, you would have a maximum of 470 points to use at the POLY.

Best wishes -

Have you tried HHI? You should at least once. It's a different side of DVC. It would be worth the trip even if you still decide to sell.

About having to use them all by the end of your use year -

If you change your mind about the April 2006 Poly trip after you book (cancel the reservation), your points will be returned to your current use year. That would be your 2005 use year.

All the points you used for the Poly booking would be considered reservation points. They cannot be used to book a DVC resort or an excahnge through Interval International. They could only be used to reserve a stay in one of the resorts/options listed in the Disney Collection, the Adventurer's Collection or the Concierge Collection. If you were unable to use them by the end of the 2005 use year (which would be 11/30/2006), they would expire and be lost to you.

HTH.

One other note that hasn't been mentioned. I don't know if the 2006 point chart for WDW resorts would be available in May, I can't remember when it comes out for the next year. It is entirely possible that the points could go up, and the room/view you've booked could now be too many points. I believe from 2004 to 2005, most resort/views went up about 2 or 3 points per night. Sometihng to keep in mind. If the point chart isn't available, you are booked using 2005 points, with the knowledge that they will adjust your reservation when the 2006 point chart is released.

well I have plenty of time to digest this between now and next may :)
I was counting on points going up about 5 points a day just trying to decide if I would want to go for a day less and do concierge or stay longer and go for lagoon or even longer and go garden, we loved the poly even though staying at a dvc property would be more bang for my dvc bucks.
