DH and I are looking at renewing our vows and we are discussing our options. There are so many, and in so many different price ranges!

It will be just our immediate family: Me, DH, and 3 DD's, no one else! We did the "big wedding" before, and want something for just us.

So, that leads to my question...is it worth it?

I think the ceremony, and location will be beautiful! I know budget and money is all relevant to your own personal situation, but, I guess I am looking for those of you who have done a vow renewal, or a wedding like this, and walked away feeling no regret about the expense, or that you didn't feel like you could have done something different for a lot less money, and been just as happy. I think after all is said and done it would end up costing us between $8,000-10,000 with the Escape package, a Disney vacation, clothes, hair, nails, etc.

Please share your thoughts!

I'm no help...wondering the same thing!! DH and I would LOVE to renew our vows in WDW for our 10 year but I just can't get over the price...especially for just immediate family. We did the big wedding too...but if I could do it all over again I think I would do the big wedding at WDW...of well...I"m thinking the best I can do now is save up and hope our one daughter wants to get married at WDW...I already told DH if she does we're not holding back!!:thumbsup2

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking it is expensive! We are going on a Carnival Cruise next year (June 2011) and we could renew our vows for $385!!! Pretty much the same thing! It would include champagne, two tier cake, music, the entire room to ourselves, flower for me, and DH (I would have to buy my DD's something). I know it is not the same, but it could still be romantic.

I know when it boils down to it, DH will do whatever, but, ouch!

I guess I am looking for someone to say it blew their socks off when they did their renewal!

I am leaning towards the vow renewal on Castaway Cay. The cost is only $2500 and includes the cake, champagne, etc. You are taken off the ship for a private ceremony, then go back for the cake reception. Afterwards you can rent a private room at Palo for only $15/person for a great adult only dinner (while the kids go to the kids clubs!). You can also do the vow renewal inside the ship while at sea for only $1500. They are available on all cruises, so you could even do a 4 day cruise and only pay $1500. I only plan to have a few people at my ceremony also, so I think this is great! You also don't have to worry about gathering guests for a tea reception, dessert reception, etc. as all the food is included!!

P.S. Also remember to add the price of your cruise to this :)

We weren't happy with our Disney Vow Renewal and I would not do it again.

Like you, we wanted something very small (we had 7 people total, including us). We wanted a beach event, so we chose the Sunset Pointe location at Polynesian. It rained. We were moved to the Wedding Pavilion, which was way too huge for our party, plus we looked ridiculous in our beachwear (the men were in Aloha shirts and everyone was wearing leis!) Our pictures are so terrible I've never looked at them again.

I felt the whole experience was very rote. Nothing about the experience felt personal and frankly it just wasn't that enjoyable. Honestly every time I think about it (this was over 3 years ago), it irritates me. It wasn't worth the money and it just wasn't handled well.

If I were to do it again, I would do the Castaway Cay vow renewal, or something non-Disney. Just my .02.

We definitely want something "beachy" if we don't do it on the Carnival ship. I am really leaning towards this for June 2011. I think it will be nice, and for the price, it can't be beat! (Not to mention that I believe I can do this as a "surprise" for DH, we take turns planning anniversaries, and the 'even" years are for me to plan. We also have all year to do something for the anniversary, not just on our anniversary, so we try to do something as a surprise.

It will be our 8th anniversary, and my DH wants to go all out for our 10th for sure, so maybe something else.

Foodlover--So sorry to hear your renewal was bad, that completely sucks for the amount of money you paid!!! If we do go the Disney route, DH already said he definitely wants it on the beach at the Poly, I didn't think about it raining and where they would stick us...we would have on "beachy" clothes, so I can definitely see that would be a nightmare. My wedding pics are pretty bad too, so I can relate! We don't even have one up anywhere in our house.

One of the big things I want is a really nice cake....I HATED my wedding cake! I don't care if it is only two tiers, I want it to be beautiful and nice!

the price for DCL vow renewals have gone up....it is now $2500 onboard and $3500 for Castaway Cay.

We just did our Vow Renewal in December. Some days i'm glad I did it, and some days I feel it was the biggest hassle and waste of money. nothing went the way I wanted it to and frankly my entire party was so disappointed in the service we had on DCL that no one will sail with them again. We had rude staff and the entire VR planning process was a huge fiasco from lies and broken promises to just plain complete disorganization from DFTW. The VR itself was good (not great....just good) it is everything that lead up to it, and since then, that makes me think we never should have bothered.

We went a different route with our 25th anniversary. We wanted to reaffirm our wedding vows, but hubby and I were both sure we wanted the actual ceremony at a church. We considered renewing our vows in the church where we were married and then just flying the family down to Disney for a celebration afterward, but we ended up settling on a hybrid plan of sorts.. combining a simple church ceremony in Kissimmee with a very special Disney day. I have a thread over in the DVC area of Disboards.com that summarizes our day. You can find it here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2486999

Everybody has to find the plan that feels best for them. Our day was PERFECT for us, but certainly wasn't a princess-type experience. It was much more like a Family Gathering that happened to take place on our anniversary. But, then again, I think I personally would have felt uncomfortable in the princess role!

HTH... Evey =)

Such a beautiful thread, I commented on your renewal link you sent me!

Hi
I hear where you are coming from as far as the price is concerned. We are renewing our vows next May (4th) and for a long time I was going down the DFTW at Sea Breeze Point route. As I am sure you are aware the Escape package for this was $4750.00 and included a bridal bouquet and groom's bout, a choice of four or five cake styles, a DPS package, one bottle bottle of bubbly, a limousine charter and musician as well as the ceremony set up. I was prepared to pay this and was planning on having a meal afterwards and then a DP at Epcot in the evening. I was planning a few upgrades, (bridesmaid posy, extra bouts for 2 x DS and some ceremony floral). The cost was starting to add up with my upgrades and then DFTW introduced the new rule that insisits that Escape packages which have a 'private dining event' attached (ie my DP) reach a minimum spend of $7500.00. Well, this was a step too far for me and I had to re-consider.
I am now going with my VR at the Swan hotel (ceremony in front of the beautiful outside Swan fountain). My package includes ceremony set up, services of a co-ordinator (Karen) guest's water station set up nearby, a guaranteed back-up location in case of rain, use of a 'hospitality suite' to get ready in, officiant (which the DFTW package did not include), musician, two bottles of champagne and one of sparkling cider, five bottles of orange juice, services of two Swan Hotel servers to pour drinks and cut and serve the cake (with all silverware and flatware needed) and two limousine charters to shuffle my guests from hotel to ceremony and then to GF where we plan to dine at Citrico's. I have arranged for my own cake (Heather at It's Tasty Too) and my own floral with Debbie at Atmospheres (my bouquet, 3 x bouts for hubby and sons, daughter's bridesmaid posy, and fairly extensive ceremony floral some of which can be transferred to Citrico's) and my own photographer (Randy Chapman) who I had booked anyway for when I thought I was going with DFTW. All this (with, quite frankly, a totally free choice for cake and floral) I have got for over $600.00 less than the basic Escape package without any enhancments and with no officiant. I am extremely impressed, both with the price and with the professionalism of my co-ordinator (who will see me through the whole process and the big day itself) and my outside vendors.
I do agree when people say that it is not a DFTW. I, however, am just happy to be having my special day at WDW with the enhancements I really want for a price I can reasonably afford!!! I would not be entitled to have an in-park portrait session, but this was not something I was planning on anyway. Randy assures me that he will take photos at the Swan, at the Boardwalk and at the GF when we go to dinner, so I don't feel I am missing out on photo locations either.
The one thing I will miss out on is the complimentary APs. At first this was a consideration, but since they are a perk and could, in theory be withdrawn, and being from the UK it is doubtful (although possible!!) I would be able to afford two trips in one year, I am not too bothered about this.
I am also planning to (hopefully) finish the day with a firework's cruise, complete with desserts, on the Grand 1, so I am even getting my DP of sorts!!!
I guess what I am saying is, don't give up on the dream of having your VR at WDW. There are ways round things!!
Good luck!! ;)

This sounds really beautiful! One of the things I am planning on doing during our upcoming trip is going to several of the different resorts, and also some of the wedding locations and checking things out. I haven't been to Disney property to stay ever, so this will be a new experience for me. I am hoping that gives me a better knowledge to make a decision. I will say, that when I lived in Orlando, seeing the Swan and Dolphin always made quite the impression on me, they look so "regal" to me. I know your VR's will be so beautiful in front of the fountain! Thank you for sharing this me, it is so much more inclusive than the DFW, so, it will definitely be something I consider! :lovestruc

We are in the beginning stages of planning a vow renewal. I put something about it on facebook not thinking anyone would want to travel to Florida, but I was wrong! I then had to post I could only invite 18 people!

It is a huge expense, but we think it will be worth it. :lovestruc

I know the proof is in the pudding perse when all is said and done.... but our vr is next month and we are exicted! it is/ was a big expense but it was something we wanted to do. We went to wdw for first time on HM and have been back many times since(our family vacation spot) . we are inviting family and a few friends and they are all coming.....planning with disney staff has been wonderful. I have no issues at all with coordinator, planner, floral,or group ressies or for that fact anyone we had dealt with, they all respond quickly and have been helpful. everyones experience is their own but at this point I have no regrets and don't plan on any(no one does). I don't expect perfect because I am trying to be realistic, things happen but I know things have been planned well. good luck!

It is great to hear some positive feedback. During my planning for our upcoming Disney trip I have had lots and lots of questions, as it is the first trip I have planned. Most people have been super nice. I keep telling myself that the few rude ones don't matter, and there is no way I would let them ruin my trip or Disney experience.

We talked about it a little more last night, and DH said if we are going to do something at Disney (or anywhere else that we want to go all out) we should wait until our 10th anniversary. (That will give us 2 years to save and do exactly what we want.) I agreed, and, on our upcoming trip, we are going to look at the Escape packaged locations. So, that she be a lot of fun!

(What he doesn't know, is since next year is my year to plan our anniversary, I am still going to splurge and get the VR package on Carnival for $385, and enjoy it! It is going to be a complete surprise for him!)

I agree entirely. Figure out what elements are truly "you" and go from there. There are so many options, either direct through Disney or self-planned, that you can come up with an experience that is personal and memorable. Best wishes!

DH and I have always talked about doing a VR for our 10th anniversary, which is coming up in 2012. We're skipping a trip to the world in 2011 since we're doing the DCL Alaskan cruise instead, but I'm trying to determine if it's worth doing the DFTW. It may make more sense to just do a Carnival cruise out of NY (where we live), but we love disney so much that I hate the idea of giving up that Disney spirit!

Ginamarie--I hear you, and I'm not sure if you have checked the prices on carnival, but, very cheap! (By comparison!) I am with you though. DH and I are going to look at all the Escape locations while we are on our trip and make a decision from there. I think if we do the cheapest Escape, by the time we do the package, buy our clothing, rings for each other, plus the vacation, it would easily be close to $10k. Compared to probably spending $1k for the Carnival one. Ohh, decisions!

Also, another thing you could do is look for places to get married at the different ports of call for your cruise. You can get more bang for your buck so to speak. Comparable to getting married off site. :thumbsup2

We are definitely in the same place then! It hurts to think about spending so much on the renewal when we only spent about $10K on our original wedding! I'm waiting until the end of the year to see what the cruise options will be for 2012. If Disney decides to sail a ship out of NYC, it makes a DCL wedding more affordable, because we'll cut out the airfare. DH and I will be back in WDW for the Wine and Dine marathon weekend, so I may see about looking into the locations while we're there and see if I fall in love with any of them.
