I'm sure someone will answer who actually has experience, but I don't believe that insurance is ever refunded.

I don't think so. I know I've read disclaimers about it being nonrefundable but that may have been when I was looking through other booking sites.

ETA: A quick look on their website seems to indicate that travel insurance is refundable for the first 14 days after purchasing.

Are you canceling for a covered reason? If so, be sure to use the insurance!

Not cancelling, just curious.

We actually used the ins in 2004 because of a hurricane so we always have bought it, but I was thinking about skipping it this year if we book a room only reservation.
