I thought I'd like to have my family experience Hoop Dee Doo on our upcoming trip. I got seating for the 5:00 show, Category 1. My kids are older teens. No discounts for that show. We are not people who like to participate (easily embarrassed). I'm going to call back and keep trying for a different day and time, but is this worth that much money? We usually like to keep costs down by NOT dining at a TS restaurant.

I would have been able to get the 9:30 show for a different night, but I feel like that is just too late.

Opinions please.

If you don't like to participate, you might not enjoy HDD.
The show, if you've never seen it before is very good. Even if you have seen it, it's still pretty good.
The food, in no way shape or form, is worth the price. It used to be much better than it is.

I agree with Boomhauer -- the food is not good. The show is cute and diverting if you haven't seen it before. I guess I look at it that dinner (such as it is) and a show for $50 isn't a bad price anywhere anymore.

We're not participaters either. But we love Hoop Dee Do. You don't have to joke with the performers if you don't want to. About the only thing that would embarass anyone is if someone is celebrating a special occassion you someone else decides to tell one of the performers. Otherwise, you can just be a member of the audience. Not to spoil anything but at the end, your table will be given an insturment to play. At your table. You can play it if you want or just leave it. Of course, by that time, our "cool" teenage son grabbed the washboard from my hands and played the darn thing himself!

No, imho, it's definitely not worth $300! Food was icky & show didn't live up to the hype for me. Guess after all the rave reviews, I was expecting more :confused3

I don't know if I'm just cheap, but I don't think ANY meal should be $300. Granted, unless you're feeding about 20 people, but $300 for a dinner show, WAY overpriced. I don't care if you're eating fillet mignon and lobster, no way!!!

It has alot to do with the performers. About 5 years ago, there was a GREAT cast. The last show went to in December of '07 was really lacking the fun, humor and energy of a good cast.

It is cute, but I would definately not spend that much on it.

I do disagree with boomhauer though ;) - the food had ALWAYS been bad

I've been reading alot of mixed reviews about this show. I went ahead and spent $240 for 4 of us. My kids are 14 and 11. I figured this is our 3rd time at Disney and we've yet to do a dinner show. We also get easily embarrassed and I'm not one to join in on things, but if it's fun I think DH and I might partake to make it fun for the kids. I'm not into *corny*, but what the heck! I'll give it a whirl, then put in my 2 cents here on the board when it's over. I'm glad I know there's musical instruments at the end, so I can mentally prepare myself to embarrass my KIDS! Now, that might be worth the price! Hee-haw

We went last year and didn't think it lived up to the hype either. We thought it was over the top corny and predictable in it's humor and seems a bit tired. Just one family's opinion! We had friends recommend it who loved it. Just not for us I guess!

Is Hoop Dee Doo worth $300? Probably not. Is any meal at Disney World worth the price you are going to have to pay for it? Probably not.

If I had to pay $300 straight out of my pocket for Hoop Dee Doo, I probably wouldn't. But we were on the dining plan our last trip, so we used dining credits to pay for this meal. It seems easier to pay by credits.:rotfl2:

I thought the show was great. Yes it was corny and a little predictable, but I still loved it. Besides our boys are young enough to not know what corny and predictable are yet, so it was new to them and they loved it.

The food wasn't the best I've ever had, but far from the worst. I had no complaints.

We went in Nov 07 and did not think it was worth the money. It was a cute show but $300 cute! The food was good, not great. We did have a good time but again not $300 worth. Have a good trip! Nettii

Thanks for all the opinions. I know my DH and kids would probably say NOT to spend the money on that. I thought it might be a fun surprise, and it is a show with an all you can eat/drink dinner for 5 of us. But that money would last us a couple of days in food $ the way we usually spend at WDW.

At least I can cancel and get a full refund. I'll have to think about it.

For those who think Hoop Dee Do is not worth the money, I just went to a dinner theatre in Columbia, MD. Buffet before the production of The Sound of Music. Food started at 6:30 and you HAD to be done by 7:30 so everything could be cleaned up by the show at 8:00. I have never felt more rushed in my life through that buffet. After about 3/4 of the tables had been called for the salad bar (you had to eat the salad bar first), one of the two salad bars closed down. Only then could you get the "real food". We only got a five minute warning that the main buffet would be closed. I felt like I was on a marathon to stuff my face as full as possible before the show. It was not relaxing at all.

Cost for this was $60 per person and we had to drive an hour and a half for it. Drinks were NOT included, not even soft drinks. Cost for the four of us, including tax and tip was about $300. Plus, you had to shut up during the performance. I'd take Hoop Dee Do anyday.

:rolleyes1 You would have to pay me 300 to go to Hoop De Doo. It is so not up our families alley- but i think we are the minority

We went last year, had a good time. But its something I would not pay that much to do again, the food was good the chicken was very good and so was the strawberry shortcake.. Yummyyyy

I went with my family when I was a kid, staying at Ft. Wilderness (late 70's, early 80's)
We took the kids to the Luau in June.

I just booked (and paid for:scared1: ) 8 adults,4 kids and 2 infants (free) for next week.

It could not be worth the money. My kids probably won't touch anything but cola and strawberries. I could do w/out all u can eat fried chicken:rotfl:

I am certain the show will be as described...dated, corny, overrated.

BUT...this is a precious family memory and I am sure we will all be glad we went.

I know my Dad will enjoy having all his Gkids there. They are too little to see the hokey-ness. We'll take the boat over, enjoy the show, catch the Campfire afterwards, and have a nostalgic night with the youngest generation

PRICELESS...
...until someone pitches a fit, has an allergic reaction, poops their pants, has 3 or 4 too many sangrias, fights with their spouse over the can-can girl--this is after all a Family Dinner Show!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

We're not big on audience participation and we loved it. We've been twice in the past 3 years and thought it was worth the $$ (relatively speaking, of course -- this is WDW, where everything costs more than it should).

Our 13 yo son, who is too cool for anything, liked it. My dad, who does NOT like WDW at all, enjoyed it too.

Exactly...
Six of us, $300, corny dinner show, mediocre dinner, priceless family moments that we quite frankly are not going to get eating hot dogs at Caseys. We enjoyed it, we love the picture, and we loved the Sangria!
