Is Hoop Dee Doo worth $300??!!

My DH did this as a child and really enjoyed the trip down memory lane with his own children. His family went to celebrate his birthday during their trip and he of course remembers being 'selected' to play the washboard. He thought it was really funny as an adult to see that every table gets washboards to play. Funny what we remember as kids. My DDs (6 and 9) had a great time and maybe one day they will take their kids on their walk down memory lane. Very relaxing family time.

Our entire family absolutely loves this show and the food. We went at 9:30 and although it was late, we really enjoyed the evening.

Most definitely. The dining plan doesn't change anything about your meals except for the way you "pay" for it.

LOVE the Hoop Dee Doo Revue..

My family did a trip and there were 11 of us there in total.. Everyone had a great time.. Everyone enjoyed the food.. and Everyone enjoyed the drinks. Dont forget ALL drinks are included in the price.. they give you a list of bevereges to choose from.. I had several pints of the Sangria.. and let me tell you.. FUNN!!!!!

Our waiter was also a RIOT!! omg.. he was hilarious.. and had been working there since it opened.. His name was ROB.. but his name tag had it spelt backwards to be BOR..

I would go back in a heart beat. I have seen this show 3 times over my life span.. and I enjoyed everyone.. Including the strawberry shortcake... YUM!

If you don't like to participate, you might not enjoy HDD.
The show, if you've never seen it before is very good. Even if you have seen it, it's still pretty good.
The food, in no way shape or form, is worth the price. It used to be much better than it is.

It has alot to do with the performers. About 5 years ago, there was a GREAT cast. The last show went to in December of '07 was really lacking the fun, humor and energy of a good cast.

We were at the December 18th show (9:30) and thought the performers were great. While food is not gourmet - it was good and we had a great time -(3rd time we have been). Request a table not to near the front if you don't want to join in. Each to their own though - one person's good time is another's hell! Have a great trip

We love it. I remember going many times as a kid. When DH and I went for his first trip in 01, I made sure to book it. I can't remember if we did it on our second trip together or not. We did it again last year when we took DD for her first trip. We will most likely do it on every trip from here on out. We both love it. DH also loves the Luau, which I don't care for that much but he said he wants to do both on each trip. So we'll see.

Wow, this is a very different Hoop Dee Doo thread than you normally see. With the exception of a handful of post, most are fairly negative. Hoop Dee Doo is the longest running dinner show in the United States. (I guess some still love it!!) Not saying that everyone loves or or should love it, but it's long run does speak for itself, IMO. Expensive???? Yes, I totally agree. We will be shelling out $230 to see it.

Our trip to WDW wouldn't be the same without HDDR! We haven't been since the new price structure, and I suggested not going for our next trip, but my daughter howled! And am I the only one that likes the food - along with the pitcher of beer?! Years ago, before I had my own family, I went with a friend and her family with 2 young kids. I was in my 20s and was selected to be the "can can girl" in the final skit. I still have the picture and it is something I love to remember! Skip the Review? Never! But maybe consider sitting in the balcony - that is fun as well!

Well I hope the show's a good one, I just booked my ADR!

Actually this is the one reservation that dh and I disagree upon. I want to go since it's one of the "big ones" we missed on our last trip. Meanwhile, one of dh's colleagues just returned from Disney and she said HDD was a grown up's show and there were few kids in the place!

Oh well, too late for dh now!

Love it, wouldn't be a trip without it. We pay for the first Category. Food's not the best but we go for the entertainment.

We just went last month for 1st time. It was funny. Kids (10 & 7) loved it.
Our kids also liked the food. We didn't like the food but I didn't think the chicken was that bad but the ribs...... yuk.
ANYWAY, My kids laughed their butts off so it was totally worth the money we spent.
Oh yea and I know I posted this before but DD was the bell ringer and that started the whole experience off nice

FTR - Don't bother for paying for Tier 1 seating. We did, and we were all the way in the back on the floor. Can't imagine Tier 2 being any worse than that.

We go to HDD pretty regularly - it's SUPER corny, but the Sangria is good and plentiful. Makes it all more tolerable!

You're definitely going more for the experience than for the food - if you just want the food, go to the Trails End next door. Same food, MUCH cheaper. But, if you like to enjoy a few adult beverages and you don't mind corny humor, I personally think it's a decent diversion for an evening. We'll be there next Monday night - I can see the big pitcher of Sangria with a straw now!

We love HDDR! We have been several times and everyone in my family across 4 generations considers it to be one of the best entertainment values in Disney, or anywhere, for that matter.

Try not to think of it as $300 on dinner. If you do, you'll definitely be disappointed. Think of it as evening entertainment that includes dinner and drinks. It is a dinner show, not just a meal. BTW, it's a corny, silly dinner show, which doesn't appeal to everyone.

As far as being shy about participating, there is not very much audience participation in this show at all. There's clapping and some singing along if you care to, but you won't be singled out. A player might come over to your table and ask where you're from, because in the beginning there's a song about where people come from. There is one embarrassing moment, where the "flirty" character singles out a man in the audience to tease...my husband was chosen the first time we took our kids, and my son, who was 5 at the time, took it quite literally and got pretty upset and protective of DH and me. He was OK when we explained she was just acting...precious memories.

Whether or not this show is appreciated is HIGHLY subjective, such a matter of taste. You should give it a try and decide for yourself. FWIW, we do enjoy the food...and the sangria. We always ask for more salad and drumsticks...and sangria.
