Is Hollywood this desperate for film ideas?

Another recycled idea-The remake of The Poseidon Adventure is coming out this month!

All they do is remakes anymore. Remakes and turning novels into movies. At least movies based on novels tend to be pretty good though.

They've remade so many old classic movies the past few years, I can't even stand it. See the originals!

The Great Movie Ride at Disney Studios sparked my interest in Busby Berkeley's despression-era musicals. I bought the Busby Berkeley Collection last month and watched Footlight Parade and 42nd Street. Both are quite good and I am eager to see the other films in the set.

well I think this is a sure sign that the creative juices of Hollywood have dried up. How many times do you need to see the same plot lines with different actors? If it isn't a movie remake or awful sequel, it is a popular novel they seek to destroy with cutting the story to shreads (i.e. White Oleander with Michelle Pheiffer. The most awful movie adaptation of a book I have ever seen). I don't even go to the movie theatre anymore because I can never find anything I want to see (with the exception of Disney films of course-Narnia was awesome, but there again-not an original story) The only place where original ideas are coming out is in indie films. Too bad it is so difficult to find a place that shows them.

I love Busby Berkeley! Footlight Parade is fantastic; the "By a Waterfall" number is something, huh? Check out Gold Diggers of 1933-- if you like (or are even familiar with) Ginger Rogers, there's a great scene of her singing "We're in the Money" in Pig Latin. The scene got her her contract with RKO so she could make all those great musicals with Fred Astaire.

The "By a Waterfall" number is my favorite scene in the film! That's the scene that's shown at the end of the Great Movie Ride. The collection that I have also includes Gold Diggers of 1933, so I'll be sure to see that next.

I like old movies. I especially love anything with Joan Crawford. I'm also interested in seeing some more of Esther Williams' aquatic musicals.

Rent or buy 'Queen Bee'. Kind of obscure but she's at her witchy best! 'Johnny Guitar' is also a hoot.

I like old movies alot too. I could start a whole thread and talk about them forever. I just got the Criterion DVD of Notorious, which is my favorite Hitchcock film. You can't go wrong with Hitchcock, Cary Grant, and Ingrid Bergman!

Lately, the Indie productions have put the Studio films to shame. All these remakes! Come on big studios! You've got the bucks, come up with something original! :3dglasses

I have Queen Bee on DVD and I have seen Johnny Guitar. I really love Joan and she is still so real to me. I often dream about her and in some dreams she is my mother! :scared1: Isn't that weird?

I recently had the opportunity to see her B horror flick Berserk on the big screen in NYC. It's very campy, but Joan looks great in her single piece ringmistress outfit.

Just stay away from wire hangers! :rotfl:

There are some great, original movies being these days, you just have to search longer, or head to the art house theaters, to find them.

The biggest issue is the subject matter doesn't appeal to everybody's taste. But IMO thta's the choice you have to make. If you want to stick with mainstream subject matter you'll have to accept the mainstream greenlight process and watch remakes of The Dukes of Hazzard and Revenge of the Nerds. If you want to see some great independent films head to the smaller theaters or find those single copies at the store between the thousand copies of King Kong.

Every time I hear of a new remake being done, I have the standard reply, "No one in Hollywood has an original thought in their head!" While this is a generalization, what I mean is that the people running the studios are afraid to try anything new and stick with recycled story lines.

When a remake is announced, I generally look through my movie collection for the original and we watch that. My kids haven't been disappointed yet.

I refuse to spend my money on an inferior remake or a movie made from a TV series. What's even worse is the original subject matter they are choosing for the remakes.

And yet, the studios all wonder why they're having one of their worst years ever . . .

I'll bet they'll remake Animal House next!! That would be sad.

Yes, an Animal House remake would be horrific, but my metric for the bar dropping all the way to the floor will be the day when some studio announces that they are making a film out of the old "Family Affair" TV show. :scared1:

Family Affair is coming to DVD, btw, in case anyone is interested.
