Is Hershey Park fun?

We are heading out this summer on a big trip, to Gettysburg, Washington DC and Colonial Williamsburg and we're thinking of detouring to Hershey for a day. If it's more like Six Flags we wouldn't bother, but if it's more exciting than that we might add it to our itinerary.

My family loves Hershey Park and we go every summer, and at Christmas time. It is very clean, although hilly. It has to us a good variety of rides, DS13 and DH are big roller coaster people, so they love that. DS8 is not there yet and I could go either way.

I would not recommend going on the weekends if you can help it, during the summer it gets really crowded.

We try to go in June, when the crowds are not too bad, but when we have gone during July and Aug we stick to midweek.

They do not have FP or posted wait times, so I would get there early and get the headliners like Farhenhiet and Stormrunner out of the way first.

We also go up the night before, do the Preview Plan, and hit Chocolate World, before the Preview Plan. Go in at 7 or so, ride whatever we can or just wander around and develop our game plan, then go back bright and early the next day.

Hershey Park, in my opinion, is not like Six Flags at all. It leans more towards a Disney atmosphere, in terms of being family-friendly & very clean.

I take my niece to HP every July, but not on the weekends :scared1:...it's CRAZY crowded.

Yes, it's so much better than a six flags. I grew up in PA, and for the longest time, the only amusement parks I had ever been to was Hershey Park and Disney. I remember the first time I went to a six flags, and I was so confused...it was so different than anything I had ever been to. It was dirty and really to me pretty boring. I'd def. make a day or two for Hershey Park if you can. We'll be going in a month and a half when we visit family in Harrisburg.

I enjoy Hershey Park! It is not Disney, but very fun and clean. They have been adding to it almost each year, recently being a water park section. There is also a small zoo as part of the admission price.

DH and I went July 5th last year. No waits for anything, but employees said July 4th was terribly crowded!

I say go for it. You may be able to find a few coupons for admission if you look around. Hershey Gardens are nearby too. Never been there, but heard good things.

Another :thumbsup2 for Hershey Park. Took the kids last summer (DS12 & DS9 at the time) they had a great time. Heck I told my DS10 that we are going to take my MIL to Disney for Feb 2012 he asked me why we couldn't take her to Hershey instead. This is from a kid who has been to Hershey, Disney and Universal.

Another vote for Hershey Park - one of the only amusement parks we go to besides Disney.

Not a great park. Last year there were buses of folks from Philly that made it a 6 flags feel.

it was tons of teens, poor choices of clothes, rude mouths and nothing family friendly

I've been going to Hershey about as long as I've been going to WDW. The trick with Hersey is that you really want to do off-season, and at least weekdays during the week during the summer. My kids love both Hershey and WDW the same - Hershey has more extreme thrill rides. I think that Hershey is probably the closest theme park to WDW in the country.

That would be my DH's idea of a perfect vacation.

We haven't been to Hershey in years (only because we're old (64) now) but my DIL just informed us that she wants to celebrate my Sons 30th birthday at Hershey. She's taking count to buy tickets. I think that's a good endorsement.
