I certainly don't think that it is but I'm sure that some people do consider it a swear word. Depending on a person's upbringing, different beliefs are etched into a person's mind and therefore some would consider it a swear word and some not.

If you say the word in a sentence or such... Of course not.

If you tell someone to go there... It is not exactly a compliment.

As a Christian I find that word to be very vulgar used in the swearing context. Like telling someone to go to heck..yikes, I hate that. I put it right up there with using the Lord's name in vain, that makes me cringe, too.

It was used in a G-Rated Disney movie in 1959 when Maleficent screamed that unforgettable taunt.... "And now you face me, oh Prince, and all the forces of HELL!"

I have no religious objections but because I don't want my kids repeating it I tend not to use it.

They said it in Ratatouille. And it wasn't even in the literal sense. Our teacher in 5th grade told us that Hell wasn't a swear word, and most teachers let you get by with it in the 8th grade (where I am now).

I know, right? Can you see it? "Why thank you, now I know what to do this weekend. I hadn't made my plans yet!" :lmao: :rotfl:

Depends on context...telling someone to go to Hell...not a compliment, as a PP said.

Having a discussion about Hell, its existence or whatever...then not swearing.

Maleficent telling the Prince he will face the forces of Hell...not swearing.

Making a mistake and saying "Oh Hell!"...an exclamation more than swearing, but I'd probably not want a kid hearing me use it in that manner either.

Not in my book it isn't. Nor is Damn.
I have a friend who freaked when one of her kids said "oh crap". she yelled at them for cursing! :sad2: ROFLMAO-

It was?!?? I missed that one.

I don't personally think it's bad, but I don't want my child saying it....so I guess it is. I suppose it depends on the context in which it's used.
