Is Halloween Horror Nights Truly the Scariest of Them All...?

Does anybody remember Terror on Church Street, that was in downtown Orlando? That building was legitimately haunted too, and I think Terror was incredibly scary.
Here I thought I was the only one that remembered Terror on Church Street. I loved that place. I think what made it scarier was the fact that they made it intimate by limiting the amount of people per group going in. I think thats what takes away from some of the houses in HHN; but its basically impossible to do with the amount of people that attend the event.
But I still think it has alot to do with what frame of mind you go into the houses with... If you don't think you are going to get scaried or are simply cranky because of the wait times - you aren't going to enjoy yourself.

P.S. Hallowscream dims or completely turns of the lights doing the rides that made it fun for me.

Even a real haunted house might not do it for me...I think my mom made me immune to scares by exposing me to so much as a kidlet. I would LOVE to see a real ghost, but so far I've only had one incident where that might have happened and I was more curious than scared. We were living in my grandma's house, which was very, very old. I woke up and saw a pale face in the narrow space between the bed and wall. Immediately I checked to make sure that I was awake and not dreaming...yep! The disembodied face floated slowly down to the floor and disappeared while I watched in amazement. I wish I would have tried to touch it, but I was so mesmerized that I didn't even think till it was gone. It wasn't a scary face at all, just a normal woman's face.

We did have a REAL haunted house near where we lived in 1988, so bad to the point that the insurance company declared it a loss and tore it down and paid off the family. A new house was built there and has no problems. Here is the story...this one scares me because they kept having fires even after the electricity was turned off:

The house I lived at between 1993 and 1998 was definitely haunted.Things would happen on a daily basis, you would be in the family room and the phones ringer would turn off you would hear the upstairs phone ring so you noticed it was off on the downstairs phone. So you would put it in the on position and 20 minutes later the upstairs phone would ring again and the one downstairs would again be in the off position, and you hadn't left the room!!The garage door that lead to the house would slam shut, cups would move from one spot to another. The TV's channels would change by themselves and you looked at the remote control and would see the buttons move, that was witnessed by three people.Probably the scariest and freakiest thing was we had our computer in a room downstairs and when we used it we would run a long 20+ foot long cable from that room to the phone by the family room to get our dial up connection,(this was like 1996).Well one day my brother noticed the connection on the computer was gone and wouldn't come back so he went to check the connection in the family room, well the cable was somehow stuck to the roof of the house and as soon as he saw this it fell,he screamed and he heard a laugh. That was definitely the craziest thing and even though it didn't happen to me I believe him since I experienced things on almost a daily basis as well, more minor things like knowing you left the blinds on your room closed and you come back and they're totally open and no one had been in the house or a knocking noise on the patio doors at 6am and there's absolutely nobody there.Where I lived before we had nothing like this ever happen and where we live now nothing at all,so I'm not some crack making this up,it really happened!!

I definitely believe in ghosts. About 11 years ago when we were looking into
buying our first home, we looked at one in particular.
It was an old home and then relator was showing us around. It had a big wide staircase that you walked straight up and then turned to the left and had more stairs.
The realtor went first, then my DH and then me, I had the strangest feeling on that staircase, like someone was behind me.
When we got to the car afterwards, my DH turned to me and said he felt like something was following or watching him in that house, and that was before I even opened MY mouth
Needless to say, we did not buy that house

Sorry guys but we went to the one last year for the first time and it was not scary at all, and I get scared easily. I say it was amusing watching people running from the scare actors in the streets, but as far as the houses went, not scary at all. I find places by us where we live, much scarier. The props were also very cheap, so were most of the costumes, and the scar actors in the houses, pretty lamo, some houses only had maybe a few actors. I felt really bad for the people that waited on those long lines, we had a pass to get on faster. Although its still Universal, and I love Universal and Florida so it was fun but I expected much more elaborate, expensive, details which it lacked. Maybe they changed this year, hopefully they'll start doing that bc ow won't bother going that time of year.

i only believe in the Ghostbusters...:worship:

still miss that show at the studios.....

The house I lived at between 1993 and 1998 was definitely haunted.

I bought a condo that had sat empty for over a year because the previous owner was a bachelor who died so the house got repossessed. We got a really good deal and I lived there until we bought a bigger condo last year. It wasn't until a few weeks before we moved out that we found out the guy had died in the condo and they didn't find his body for a few weeks. We never heard any bumps in the night and could care less once we found out, all we cared about was a good deal. For all I know he could have died in our bedroom, he never came back from the dead to tell me about it.

I find myself laughing at things as i go through the houses. Maybe I am just weird hehe
Well...if you think laughing in the houses is weird then I'm right there with you. I tend to laugh at other people inside and outside of the houses. :rotfl:

I must admit I don't find it particuarly scary. I find myself laughing at things as i go through the houses. Maybe I am just weird hehe

I doubt that you are just weird. I am sure some of it is funny. I have never been, but I read about Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando Attractions magazine. I really do think that it would be too intense for me if the description is honest. If others feel the same way, there probably is some comic relief in there for our benefit.

Buckeyeguy28, the original poster here, has "Why So Serious?" in his posting profile. As a matter of fact, I am a serious person myself. If I were in Halloween Horror Nights and witnessed the actors taking too much delight in anyone's fearful discomfort, I think it would make me feel both sad, angry, or both. Knowing that I am the way that I am is why I go to Disney's theme parks. I am afraid that I could spoil somebody else's good time at Universal Studios. Yet I would be curious to attend because I do appreciate artistic talent, and I suspect that there is a great deal of talent among the Halloween workers at Universal Studios to set up the sets and so forth.

Funky_dino, the fact that you find Halloween Horror Nights funny doesn't mean that there is anything sick about you. I just hope that you had a good time laughing. The actors still succeeded in entertaining you so they probably don't mind that you laughed at them. They are probably just glad that you weren't bored by them.

Sounds like you would really have enjoyed the behind the scenes tour they used to do, which included a chat with some of the creative team. Sadly, they discontinued it this year. It was held during the day, with walk throughs of some of the houses before they opened. The level of detail is amazing.
