We booked a cat 11 and we are on the 7th level. I am wondering if we upgrade to a cat 9, would that be a great upgrade since those rooms are on decks 1 and 2?

The difference between having daylight in your room, and not having it is worth the upgrade.
I have been on deck 2 and on deck 6, deck 2 was easier as far as movement goes. We really felt the ship rock on deck 6, hardly at all on 2.

Well, you'd get a window!

A cat. 9 will give you a porthole (window) and the split bath (which is nice, the tub and a sink in one room, and the toilet and another sink in the other room).

So yes, it is nicer to have natural light and the split bath. BUT the Cat. 11s are nice too. We have been on a 3, 4, and 7 night in a Cat. 11 and have been fine. Then we started getting the porthole rooms with the split bath and we all really like these extras.

Twice I booked cat 11 and twice I was upgraded: once to a cat 8 and once to a cat 9. On the last cruise, it was the cat 9 on deck 2, and I completely fell in love with that deck. Now, I'm spoiled, and book deck 2 cat 9's from the get go.

Disney, by giving me an upgrade, will now extract more money from me in the future because I learned that I like having natural light in my room. D'oh!

My cat 8 was on deck 6. No way I'll pay several hundred more just to be on a higher deck in the same type of room for 7 nights.

You will also have more room in your stateroom & more storage space. I decided last cruise when we were upgraded from an 11 to an 8 that we definantly needed the steamer trunk & extra sq footage so we booked a 10 this cruise. :)

The same thing happened to me. I had booked a cat 11 for our July trip and was upgraded to a cat 9. I loved the porthole so for our cruise next year I booked a cat 9 to start with. I would probably love a verandah too, but couldn't see paying the extra $$$ since I don't expect we will be in our room that much. Now, if they want to upgrade me I certainly wouldn't complain.

I LOVE the cat 9s -- for me, the porthole is worth it. We also really like deck 2 because we can walk everywhere and don't have to rely on elevators (other than deck 9 -- I walk to deck 9 for the first two days, but then the desserts sink in and I need to take elevators).

I also think the movement on deck 2 is great -- not enough to bother us or the kids, but enough to rock us all to sleep.

I can see why most folks would appreciate the upgrade from a Cat 11 to a 9. If I were traveling with others I'd certainly prefer the split bath to the single bath.

I've booked a Cat 11 gty on the Mousefest cruise, and I'm actually hoping that I won't get an upgrade. Not only do I prefer being on an upper deck (no prob with motion), but since I'm traveling solo on this cruise, the single bath is much more convenient for me.

So, if you're cruising on the Dec 5 Wonder and are hoping for an upgrade, your chances just got better, cause I don't want one!

It would really depend on the location of the stateroom. The Cat. 11s are typically in good areas, with no excessive overhead noise. I would want one of those any day instead of a room like 2626! The porthole was nice, but the noise from the cargo door below meant that I never got a good night's sleep, and I spent the trip like a zombie. Another time, we were under the Rockin' Bar D. We could definitely hear the bass, but it was not as annoying as the cargo door and did not keep me from sleeping.

:rotfl: For me it's the opposite - I need to keep taking the stair or the desserts really kick in. And btw, the more stairs I do, the more desserts I get to eat!
