Is food fancy in MDR's?

Believe me these boards are amazing. Everyone is so active you can get an answer within minutes. It is awesome. Thank you for the link. Yes we can definitely order from there. I really want to try new things especially since everything is included!!

Be sure to try the Pasta Pursettes in AP, they are amazing little pillows of heaven. My son is a very basic and picky eater, (eats the chicken, baked potato and broccoli almost every night in the MDR), and even he loves them. Also, on the 2nd night of our Fantasy cruise last year we just happened to mention to our head server that the kids like just plain white dinner rolls, and every night after that there was a basket of them on the table when we sat down.

I can thoroughly recommend the kids Mac 'n' Cheese - especially if they serve it on kids plates! Had them try and serve it to me on an adult plate once and I swear it didn't taste the same! Kids meals are great and very plain plus there is a "lighter fare" option on the menu which is simply Steak/Chicken and baked potato! Always a good option.

You'll be fine. One night, I ordered a steak and Mac N Cheese, Another night, spaghetti and meatballs. The "fancy" food is fine with me, but sometimes you want something different.

I was going to recommend the lighter fare options too. They are foods that aren't too fussy and don't have a lot of sauces. I would still recommend trying new things. If you don't like it they will bring you something new. I remember my daughter ordered tuna tartar and I asked her if she was sure and she said yes. They brought it out and one look at her face our server offered her something else and ended up bringing her a wedge salad. I've heard people say you can order off the kids menu if there's nothing you like. I think you're likely to always find plenty of choices you like.

exactly what everyone else says - the food "looks" fancy but is far from it. The flavors are not rich or exotic but very standard flavors.

You an also order more than one appetizer, soup, main meal and dessert! when you order! You don't have to wait to see if you don't like it.

I too am pretty set in what I like and don't like, but I ordered at every meal an extra part of the meal because this is the chance for you to try something without having to have that be your only option (like restaurants on land). What I mean is I ordered 2 main courses, 2 appetizers, 2 desserts, etc. We shared them amongst our family so we could each try something new if wanted Please do not be nervous about doing it. We even went to breakfast for the first time at a MDR just to try it out, and I really wanted the omelet, but they had a plate that had cinnamon French toast that I really wanted to try. Not sure if I could order 2 things for breakfast and I asked the server... He said I could order 4 or more if I wanted... "it is your vacation". that was really sweet.

Others mentioned ordering Caesar salad not on menu... we often ordered a simple side salad with ranch dressing and they have no problem with that.

But agree with everyone, please let your servers know, they really do want to know because they can then accommodate your wishes. their survey at the end of the cruise is very important and are needed an "excellent" response, so give them a chance that they can earn it.

If you choose to use the APP on board then you can also look ahead at what is being served.

If for some reason you plan on skipping a meal at a MDR then please tell your servers as well. We saw some tables that they prepared for (drinks etc ) and no one showed up. Felt bad for the servers. that is time and food wasted.

A little story....we were on the 7-night Magic a few years ago. My (then) 10 year old niece is not an adventurous eater, but promised us she would try new foods on the trip. The first night she really didn't like anything she ordered. The 2nd night she ordered an appetizer that include the word "strawberries" in the description. She loves strawberries so she ordered it. I noticed after it was served that she was trying to hold back tears. Our server noticed as well. I took her out for a talk to learn that she was disappointed that the dish only included two small strawberry pieces as a garnish. She ate those but hated the rest of the dish. I realized we had put too much pressure on her to try new foods. I told her to just eat what she liked at dinner and that I would take her up to the buffet if she was still hungry afterwards.

As soon as we returned to our table, both our server and the head server came over to see what was wrong. I told them that she thought the dish would include a lot more strawberries than it did. The head server said "No problem, we will fix it for her." He personally came back 10 minutes later with a full bowl of fresh strawberries. And, a new bowl was waiting for her every night for the rest of our trip! Your servers really want you to be happy!

Another tip....check the menus in the afternoon for all three dining rooms. Often, your server is able to bring you an entrée that is being served at another restaurant that same night.

Wow that is really sweet the server had a bowl of strawberries for her every night. I showed my husband the menu and told him that there will be something for him to eat. He is someone who doesn't want people doing something 'special' for him. As long as there is some sort of meat and salad he will be fine. I told him food is definitely not going to be a problem since it seems like it is everywhere.

My youngest was a very picky eater. He too would have a bowl of strawberries waiting for him every night. It was wonderful. I credit DCL for getting him to branch out and try new things as he got older. The pressure is off bc if you don't like it, you can always get something else.
