My DBF is worried that the FairFX is dodgy and doesn't want us to pay for our Disney Wedding using this. Are there any hidden costs I should know about? Is it ok!

I obviously think its fine but he's just worried!

It's completely legit. We've used ours all over the USA and online for almost 3 years now with no problems at all.

Absolutely - I've been using mine for ages now. There is no charge on card transactions but there's a small fee for cash withdrawals ($2 from memory)

It's actually run by Newcastle Building Society. I work for a company who has a contract with them and they are a sound financial organisation if that helped put your mind at rest:thumbsup2

Another fairfx card user here :thumbsup2 USed at ATMs and on chip and pin machines in shops and stuff. Its a mastercard so is accepted nearly everywhere i even used it on the plane home, ( currency was in euros on the plane to AMS), worked fine and on the online statement they must have used the days exchange rate at the time to work out how many dollars to take off :)

Add me to the list. :thumbsup2 I registered mine to PayPal and have purchased items and services off of US websites with this. No international card fees :) I only put in what I need so never more than a few hundred $$ lying about in it, but there is also no inactivity fee which is a plus compared to many other travel cards.

One thing to keep in mind if you are using it for lots of transactions by card in the US, unless you have internet access to keep tabs on the balance you will need to keep a careful note of what you spend or you will have no idea what is left on it.

Also, it is not a credit card, so it's not recommended to use it as security for a service like charging to your room for example, as they may block xxx of funds for that.

Otherwise so easy to use. I had to give photo ID for most transactions, outside of Disney though.

We used it last trip and thought it's great.

Have also used it to pay our wedding photographers, videographer and tuxedo rental on it.

You can only have £5000 on it at a time though so we paid the wedding bill by transfer as we didn't want to have to do lots of separate payments.

The only thing I would say is that I would only load it as you use it. Just in case.

For example don't use it as a piggy bank for all your trip money in advance. Just incase something happened.

I'll probably just log on throughout the trip and put a few hundred £ on it as I need to and keep the rest if our money in our account where it's safer.

i have had one since 2008 and paid for our disney wedding with it, we have taking it on every trip and used it in mexico with no problems

its backed by newcastle building society so i have no problem them holding my money, our last trip was 2009 and i still have money on the card ready for this years trip

does the USA have chip and pin now? i know they didn't back in 2009. i'll be using the card in may, but don't know my pin anymore. fairfx have given me a number to call to retrieve it; but as i dont plan on using it for ATMs, i'll only retieve it if chip and pin is now in place

I've not used chip and pin there ever. Always seem to sign an electronic pad thing.

Not been for 18 months though.

The only place where it was chip and pin was Pandora store. I went quiet when she inserted my card as I had to go find hubby for the number thatw as scribbled in his wallet somewhere. However when I said that I didnt really know my pin the assistant let me show I.d and sign!

Everywhere else was a signature on a electronic pad !!

Another one here who use it for my Disney wedding. Had no problems at all we also used it in Mexico and grand cayman on our cruise. I have also used it in the uk since we got back as well.

Never used chip and pin at all last month.

Thanks everyone, its been wonderful proving DBF wrong! Its not often I get to rub it in his face!

I knew the Disboards wouldn't let me down!

got told that when you sign the electronic pad it measures the pressure and time it takes to wright it out as well as the signature.the more times you use it the more it get to know your signature

We've used ours for several years now and usually put money onto it to save up a few months before going.
We use it to pay our annual dues for DVC and have been using it for the last year to pay our monthly payments to DVC for our loan.
