My wife went to Belize in 2001 where locals there pronounced it like the letter K.

What is the official right answer here?

Wife's name is KEY as in LOCK AND KEY

many have been tried to correct pronunciation to KAY / CAY as in "K" :rolleyes1

but trust me there IS a difference between KEY and CAY

KEY WEST ... Florida KEYS

CASTAWAY CAY ..... which is really GORDA CAY anyway ... check a navigational chart!

:laundy:

Outside of Florida it is usually CAY .... while IN Florida it IS Key .... Key Largo .. .

i have no idea what you are saying here - your wife’s name is Key?! :goodvibes:rolleyes::rotfl:

either pronunciation is correct. the island DCL’s ships visit is largely referred to as castaway “KEY”. there have been many threads about it on here, like this one!

I go with what the locals say.

If they say KEY, it's key. If they say CAY, it's cay.

We've been to The Bahamas a few times and all the locals pronounced it "key" when we asked.
