Is eating raw meat really a thing in Wisconsin?

If fresh, beef and pork could be eaten raw.

There is a lot, when you eat your steak blue, then it's practically raw. Bacon and other sliced deli meats are often raw, in some definitions when its only smoked it can be considered raw.
Carpaccio and steak tartare is a very common thing, and can be found in many restaurants https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steak_tartare
When I was young and we had ground beef, it was common for me and my brother to steal some when my mom was preparing. :P

Many, many years ago - growing up at home. My dad used to get the meat for the month or so at the butcher. Both my dad and mom would separate, wrap and freeze. I would eat ground beef or sausage raw. I loved it. Never got sick.

I could still do it if I wanted. I would want to know it was fresh - but might be more afraid and who knows if my tummy is the same as it was 40 years ago

Can't speak to Wisconsin but in the early 1960's my dad used to grab a pinch of raw ground beef from the pan when my mom was cooking. Drove my mom nuts. I have done it, but I eat sashimi too. Yes, there is a risk with any uncooked meat/fish. I won't eat under cooked poultry. My son spent time in Spain and all the restaurants he ate in prepared chicken rare.......unless you asked for it well done. Yuck.

What I meant, was that to ME, it was like a Sopressata or the like. I was getting the feeling the OP Meant -meat as hamburger or steak.
Sopressata is cured and doesn’t even have to be refridgerated. Carpoccio is just raw beef.

Grew up in Wisconsin, never heard of it. Now everyone we knew in Wisconsin opened presents on Christmas Eve and not Christmas Day (Santa would bring some little stocking gifts for Christmas Day). When we moved south, I was shocked to learn no one here does Christmas Eve gift opening. My family still does it though

When I moved to Maryland in the 90's they used to have dinners called bull and oyster roast. Kind of like the Gala nights we have here. They would have trays of raw ground beef just sitting out and people would grab some and eat it. I remember being completely disgusted. I wonder if they still do that...

I've lived in WI my entire life. (sad, i know)
Cannibal sandwiches are a part of every Xmas Eve in our house.
Freshly ground from a butcher we buy meats from regularly...

I've heard of a cannibal sandwich, but didn't know it was a holiday tradition in the mid-west. If it was a fresh, high quality beef...I'd try it. When I was younger, I always ordered burgers and steak medium rare, but as I get older I like it somewhere between rare and medium rare. I love carpaccio, beef tartare, sashimi...etc. So why not. Like someone else said though....might hold off on that until I get my vaccine.

I had steak tartare in Spain and it weirded me out more than I expected. I like my steaks practically mooing, but they are at least warm. Eating cool raw meat was not entirely pleasant.

LOL. Growing up in the 1960's I knew a few families that opened gifts on Christmas Eve. Almost all because they had children who would not sleep Christmas Eve night otherwise! Never would have flown in my house. My mom grew up with the Christmas Tree and the gifts not appearing until Christmas morning. Her parents said Santa brought everything.
