Is DVC for us?

The hesitation I have is if DVC is worth it if we don't plan on keeping it forever. I am thinking 15 year timeline since that is when the kids will be grown. Not sure if they'd be interested in going with us at that time. I don't think we'd go (maybe to Aulani) to WDW when we are in our 50s by ourselves. Also, we are thinking of purchasing at AKV since it is cheaper than BLT. I know a lot of people say to buy where you'd want to stay. Would it be hard to get BLT, Aulani or HHI if we were interested in staying there? We don't mind staying at AKV if we are at WDW, but would like the option to travel to places outside of FL.

As far as 15 year timeline, I think it is hard to predict. We bought in 99 our youngest was 8, and is now married! We loved the extra space with kids and it allowed kids friends and extended family to join us on occasion. In High School with sports etc it became more challenging to schedule but we managed. As the kids got older we spent some Holidays at Disney which we didn't do when they were younger. Even when in College our kids wanted to go to Disney with us. Our kids have also gone without us with friends using our points.

One thing that we have found is that when the kids were grown, just the two of us enjoyed going. We have gone more in the past few years then ever before. We have been averaging 3 trips a year (down sized to studios for the 2 of us, which allowed more stays). We might go to the park in the AM for a few hours, pool and dinner afterwards, or drinks etc. There is plenty to do when its just the two of you.

On our last trip to the Poly, we added a second contract. I would have never thought we would be doing that 15 years ago. While you never know what future values may be (and I don't think you should ever think you can sell it- although DVC history proves otherwise) if I sold my 1999 contract today I would be able to sell it for more than I paid.
