Is DVC a Good Investment

I guess I am confused on how a week at DVC cost 718 points. The only accomodation that comes close to 718 points is a grand villa and one cannot compare a grand villa to anything else at WDW on property. I think you need to look at comparable rooms at say the BCV to what you had at the Poly and then compare the points required for 7 days in that type of room.

The OP was looking at the cost via the Disney Collection to stay at the Poly Concierge level, which as has been said previously is NOT a good reason to buy DVC points. You can get 4-7 days at a DVC resort for the points cost of ONE NIGHT at the Poly Concierge.

We stayed Poly Concierge last year, and bought DVC this year. Although I am saddened that we will likely not stay at the Poly again (unless we end up with points to burn, or pay cash to add on a couple days to a DVC stay), having just come back from BCV, I think I've found a new home. If CRV doesn't come through, maybe some BCV via resale is in my future...

We stayed 4 nights in a studio at BCV last week for less than the cheapest one night points stay at the Poly Concierge. It was probably slightly smaller room wise, but the second bed was a sleeper sofa so there was more room to move around, and we had the kitchenette, which we did not have at the Poly.

If you want the concierge level services, you don't want DVC (except perhaps at Animal Kingdom Villas, where some rooms have it as an option on points).

I am new to DVC and to this forum. Cruelladeville, you seem to have a lot of knowledge about all this and I was hoping you can help me with a few questions. I bought into Old Keys West, and I'm planning an upcoming trip in late Dec.. First of all, they said Disney has waived everything and my final documents will be here in 28 days which that will be this Tuesday (I'M SO EXCITED!). Anyways I worry that I will not find any room by the time all my documents come in, should I be worrying? My other question is are the DVC resorts as filled with Disney magic as the Disney Hotels are? I mean will I still feel like I am surrounded by Disney like I am at the hotels....I'm a little spoiled to that. Thanks for any help and advice you can give.

You are going to have a very difficult time getting a late Dec reservation this late. Most members get their reservations 7-11 months ahead of time. You are looking at 5 months out. You could use your points (if the lodging was available) at a non-DVC resort, but like most of us have already said here, that is not the best use of the points.

DVC resorts are very magical. Not so much Mickey in your Face like the value resorts, more subtle.

Thanks - DVC sounds like a great deal; however, based on all of your input and our research, we will pass for now. At this point in our lives, we probably will not give up watching Wishes from our patio at the Polynesian.

We do plan to continue researching DVC. With 3 adult kids who are at this point un-married, we may in a very short time have more grandkids than we know what to do with. Disney on a budget to bring magic to these kids will likely be more important at that time.

Thanks again - Dave
