Is dissing someone now "ditching"??

I have seen a large number of malaprops here, whether accidental or intentional, they are funny. I.E. "Mute" for "Moot" etc.

Possible the poster has "fat finger syndrome" tht I have expreience from time to tmie!!:rotfl2:

Dissing someone is short for Disrespecting them so I can see how ditching them could be a form of dissing.

:rotfl: Did you see that on Earl??

Yes, dissing means to "disrespect". To put down or leave hanging, etc. I got a good laugh from the name of this board when I first read it... Which brings up another age-old Dis arguement: Is it pronounced "Disss" or Dizzz" boards?

I actually work with Malaprop Man (from the Frank and Ernest comic strip).

Well, I can see how ditching a person could be seen as a dis ("My date last night was so lame, I ditched him as soon as possible"), but the emphasis is on abandoning the person, not on insulting him or her. For example, if a older brother was told by his friends to "ditch the brat" when a younger brother was trying to tag along, it would be a stretch to say that this was disrespecting the young brother.

I'd say that the OP has identified a genuine, fat-fingered malaprop.

Ditching: Example, when you are invited somewhere, the person cancels on you and that person proceeds to go do some actvitiy with someone else. You have then been "ditched". Ditched: to get rid of, "ditch the kid".

Dissing: When you insult, make fun of, etc. Disrespect.

Ditching someone is a form of disrespect, but you don't use ditch with dis!

(It's the morning...sorry if they don't make sense..I made it up as I went along)

The way that poster is using "ditch" is incorrect. She should be using "dis". It even sounds incorrect.
