Dh and I are going to Disneyland Oct 9-13 and taking My DGS age7/9. From all everyone is saying the castle is covered-space mtn-matterhorn-tiki rm are all closed,Fantasmic is not showing. I haven't been since 1979 so I wanted this trip to be great /added to that I liveon the east coast and probably won't get back for along time. Is it still worth the effort to go ? we have res for the Disey Hotel.:::confused:

Is there any way you could postpone the trip until next year?

I can understand someone being a little underwhelmed with all of those rides closed and the castle, especially if it's their first time in a long time.

I'm sure you would have a nice time if you did go then, but you wouldn't be seeing the park at its best.

unfortuneitly we can't as airfare is paid for, bought in Jan before I learned about the closures . horefully we will have a good time anyway after all what you it is what you make it. my question als wants to ask is the magic gone or will it still be there.

Anytime you can in the off season you will find that stuff we be closed. There is till plently you can do. Go have fun with what is open and don't make the trip about what you can't.

I think the place always has magic. Plus, a lot of the major rides will still be open, like Haunted Mansion Holiday (I think), Pirates, Indiana Jones, Splash Mountain, and hopefully Big Thunder.

Look at it this way, you can never see it all anyway! Every time we go, there is always a list of things we wanted to do but didn't have time to do. Some of the things closed might have been on your such list! We will be there a month before you and the only thing I really regret is the castle being covered. Still, there is plenty of magic left. There are wonderful shows (especially Aladdin over at DCA), great places to eat, the characters will still be out and about so you should have plenty to do and see. Be sure and do a character meal, your grandson's will love it. Also, as I understand, Imagine fireworks will be showing on the weekends since Fantasmic isn't and you will love that. One last bright spot, looks like in light of all the closures at Disneyland, California Adventure has few if any closures. Enjoy!

You will still have a wonderful time.

We just got back last night from a 4-night stay, with my 2 DDs, 5 & 8.

Yes, the Castle was covered. Space Mountain and Big Thunder were out of commission.

But we had a magical, wonderful time...hardly even noticed (Okay, its a LITTLE hard to not notice the tarp over the castle...)

Make sure you spend a lot of time at DCA. It is really shaping up to be a great theme park. The Tower of Terror ride is great! So is Soarin Over California. The Aladdin show at the Hyperion Theater is NOT TO BE MISSED. There are plenty of Disney characters out and about at DCA, and it is not as crowded as DL.

At DL, you will still have more to do than you can fit in. Splash Mountain, Pirates, Indy!

Don't miss Goofy's Kitchen for a character meal. It is at your hotel and it is a wonderful experience.

You will have fun, don't worry!

Is the matterhorn closed too??? I hadn't heard that ! I sure hope

not. That's the reason we cancelled out last year and now there's

so many down again!!!! We may have to ask to trade our

hoppers for 6 days back for 3 and go to another park!!!

We just got back from DL for the first time and really enjoyed it, you'll love the ease of just walking between DL and DCA instead of having to take busses or a monorail. DL is very much like MK, just as much fun, even with Space Mtn and Thunder Mtn closed, there was still so much to do.

What about the matterhorn? J/TGrandma said it was closed in

Aug.!! Where is that rehab schedule?

No, Matterhorn will be open in August. She's talking about October.

My wife and I and our 2 children (Daughter 4 years old and Son 6 years old) have visited both parks. We have had an anual pass for Disney World Florida and currently have an anual pass for Disneyland California.

One thing I must say is that if your kids are 40 inches tall, you are definutly going to have a better time at Disneyland California if they like the E ticket Attractions. Here are some differences that I think are interesting about Height restrictions:

Height Restriction Difference for kids at 40"
Disneyland CA-----------------Walt Disney World FL
Space Mountain DL 40" WDW 44"
Madahorn DL 36" WDW N/A
Roger Rabbit Cartoon Spin Everyone WDW N/A
Indiana Jones Temple of Doom DL 46" WDW Dinasaur 40"
Alice in Wonderland Ride Everyone WDW N/A
Mr Toads Wild Ride Everyone WDW N/A
Toon Town Attractions 36" WDW Limited
Cassey Jr. Train Everyone WDW N/A
Storybook Land Everyone WDW N/A

Disneyland does not have
Adladin Carpet ride, People Mover, Time Keeper, Carosel of Progress or Allien Encounter.

For convienience, beautiful weather, intimacy and for rides that are made for the smaller folks I preffer Disneyland California over WDW Magic Kingdom much better.

Negatives: On Busy Days Disneland will definutly feels much more packed because it is smaller than the Magic Kingdom in size.

Disneys California Adventure
Tower of Terror DL(DCA) 40" WDW 48"
Soar'n over California 40" WDW N/A
Scream'n 48" WDW N/A
Muholand Maddness 44" Count Down To Extint. 44"
Bugs Land Everyone WDW N/A

In my oppinion Disneyland/DCA is much more suited for children that are 40 inches or taller. The weather is a big factor too and so is convienience of getting around.

James, Claudia, Joseph and Alicia

I'm not sure what would make the TOT height limits so different. The dropping and elevators are pretty similar.

Also on Space Mountain, I've found the ride to be more intense at DL. Maybe it's because of the different rocket styles that the height limit is shorter at DL.

I guess I just don't know what goes into figuring out height limits on attractions.

ToT is 40 inches at WDW. My ds who was 3 during our Dec 2003 trip rode it. He was 40 inches at the time. With Dinosaur.

Yes I stand corrected,

Tower of Terror at Walt Disney World is the same Height Restriction Height as Disney's California Adventure

40" Tall.

I don't know if this has always been but it is now! :-)

I do think that Disneyland California has a lot more to offer for Children and there is much less walking around without the blast in your face High Humidity of Orlando.

When comparing You can't beat Disneyland CA for convienience.

How about December. And can I have the link to the rehab page?

How do you know Fantasmic is not showing? Where can I find out about that information - we are thinking of an October trip.

Go to Disneyland.com and click on calendar at the top. Put in your travel dates and it will give you a list of shows and closures.

Fantasmic will be out from post-labor day through just before Christmas because the sailing ship columbia is going through an extensive refurbishment.
