Hello,
My daughter and I were both diagnosed several years back with Celiac and at first it was very overwhelming to try to figure things out but I am so happy to report to you that DL is gluten free friendly!!!! We are AP holders and go often and we quickly found out that although eating out at many places was difficult, DL made it so easy.
You can go to City Hall in DL and get a list of great Gluten Free options and just remember that every place you go to eat that offers sit down service you can let them know that you need to eat gluten free and they will have the chef come to your table to let you know what they can do to make many things on the menu gluten free for you.
We especially like going to Story Tellers Cafe and have had wonderful experiences there and with Chef Chris many times when it comes to getting a great gluten free meal. Chef Chris has always been so friendly and takes the time to come out and check on us even after we have our meals to ask if everything is ok. We went to DL 5 weeks ago for a 3 night stay and Chef Chris cooked 2 of our meals for us during our stay and remembered us from our October 2008 visit when he also cooked for us and was happy to inform us that Story Tellers was now offering a Gluten Free Beer.
On our trip 5 weeks ago Chef Chris made us a breakfast and came to have a chat with us just as we finished up our meal, he asked us if he would be seeing us again during our stay and we informed him that we had planned to return in the evening for dinner and knew what we were going to order that evening for dinner. That evening when we arrived for dinner we were seated and only minutes after being seated Chef Chris came to our table to let us know that he saw us come in and that he had already put our food on, the food was excellent, I have pictures of it all if you are interested in seeing them. Chef Chris even brought a wonderful Gluten Free desert to our table after dinner ( A very yummy warm GF brownie (big) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and chocolate sauce drizzled over the top).
All of our GF dining experiences at DL resort have been just fantastic......they really make you feel like you are no different than any other person in most ways but in some ways make you feel very special when they come to your table and take the time to get to know your individual needs.
Don't be afraid to ask any questions you would like when you are talking with the Chefs, they always seem happy to answer anything.
DL is one of the few places we can go and not have to really worry about trying to figure out how to eat Gluten Free while away from our home!!!
While all of the Chefs at DL are great with the GF diets I must say if you have a chance and can visit Story Tellers Cafe (located inside Disney's Grand Californian Hotel) ask for Chef Chris I promise you won't be dissapointed with how he treats and serves you.....he really is GREAT!
Sorry for going on and on, it is just that this subject is so near to my heart because we were right where you are at just a few short years back after being diagnosed, and I can rember thinking that nothing would ever be easy again and with all the things that have Gluten in them I also thought it would be next to impossible to be able to eat out any longer.....DL is really a place where ALL of your dreams come true!!!!
Enjoy your trip and all your gluten free DL dining experiences!!!!
