Is Disneybounding really popular? It is just a social media thing?

The last year or so I’ve been watching a lot of Disney influencers….which I swear has to be a relatively new thing or I’m just really out of the loop.

I noticed a lot of them are in the bounding is that really that popular in the parks for adults? I know for like dapper, Halloween, and princess nights are really big for dressing up.

I see it often at the parks. not like a lot but yes adults besides influencers do it. I do not think it's a new thing at all. Just maybe a new thing influencers are doing. You will definitely see a lot more of it as it gets closer to Halloween.

It's been a thing for years even before it was designated Disneybounding (term considered to be first used in 2011). Not just a recent "influencer" thing. But it does increase and decrease in popularity depending on time of year.

There's some who bound as Disney and non Disney characters in their daily lives as well. Not just at theme parks.

I've seen quite a lot of people I thought were Disneybounding.

It's often hard to tell that's the intent, I think, unless they make it obvious like wearing a Minnie headband with a red dotted dress.

The few times I did it, I wore a blue t-shirt, jeans about the same color as the shirt and a blue baseball cap with Stitch pins on the cap to suggest that was my character.

That was well over a decade ago, so it's been a thing for some time.

I got bored with trying to decide how to suggest a character with ordinary clothes. Too much thinking when I can just throw on my Stitch hoodie and paws and have fun without thinking about it so much.

It's very popular and definitely not just an influencer thing, and it can range from extremely casual bounding (comfy casual clothes in the colors or patterns of characters) to the stuff fit for Dapper Days and everything in between.

Sometimes I see people and I'm like, I'm sure they are Disneybounding but can't quite figure out which character they are supposed to be. But some are quite obvious. I'm much too lazy to bound, but I love seeing the creative ways people do it.

Several years ago I was really into it. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to Disneybound what I wanted to represent. It was hard for me not to go costume-y, because if I'm going as something I like it to be clear to others what that something is! But most DBers believe in wearing something that "suggests" a character. I got bored with that and quit doing it after about 3 years.

For instance, I once made a dress to look like the gates of Club 33, had "chandelier" earrings like the chandelier in the club, and a hat that had a little vulture pinned on (like the one on the grandfather clock). In case you didn't get it, I was DBing as Club 33, LOL.

Holy crap! I think I am more out of the loop than you. I have never heard the term "bounding" until today. When I have seen ppl apparently bounding, especially in Star Wars Land, I generally referred to them as "dressing up" or "cosplay.
I guess if I wore the X-Wing fighter pilot helmet that I purchased for the man cave I would have been bounding?? Yes?

Has to be more than just headgear as I understand it. Generally done with ordinary clothing in the colors the character typically wears.

The most fun ones are the "is it or isn't it" ones, imo. Like the woman I saw last trip with black hair with a red bow in front, royal blue puffy-sleeve blouse and long yellow skirt--definitely an "is." Then, there was a tall person with a lime green baseball cap, orange shirt and bluejeans. Goofy? Probably.

Holy double crap! I never knew this was a thing! I could definitely pick out the Star Wars ppl with their hooded cloaks and light sabres at their side, duh. But the ones being subtle about it just escaped me. This will be fun come this January to be on the lookout for the "is it or isn't ones" Maybe I will try to catch my daughters off guard on the next trip?? hmm. I might have to ask for some advice here on the boards.

I've never noticed anyone Disneybounding but I know it's a thing that's talked about. I think I'm just not very good at noticing other people when we're at Disneyland - for better or worse.

I am always impressed when others mention they recognize celebrities at the parks because out of all the years we've gone and heard others mention celebrities being in the park when we're there, I have never once seen anyone. I think my eyes just laser focus on the task at hand....like procuring a dole whip or fast walking to the next ride lol

I've seen celebrities filming quite a few times. I even took a few photos of Disney channel stars when they were filming. Never noticed random celebrities at the parks as guests but my cousin has.

I wouldn't say that Disneybounding is really popular so some of it may be the influencers you follow. Dapper Day is definitely very very noticeable though. I don't really Disneybound but if I'm in the parks and planning to take pictures with specific characters, I will sometimes try to match my clothes. So on my last visit, I wore grey to match the silver 100th anniversary outfits of the characters in the parks right now.

Definatly not a new thing and definatly not just an Infleuncer thing. Ive been Disneybounding for 6 years, maybe longer, I would have to check my photos.

For me, as an International it helps me with packing park clothes and also helps me curtail my merchandise buying. I love buying ears, but I only buy ones which will work with a current outfit or a new outfit.

Each of my outfits have corresponding ears and other accessories.

Some of my outfits
Maleificent
Rapunzel
Elsa
Aurora / Sleeping Beauty
Cinderella
Pirate
Haunted Mansion
Little Mermaid

My Malificant outfit is super easy, black leggings, lime green tank top and purple tank top layered and ears.

My Haunted Mansion and Pirate outfits are a bit more elaborate. Hot Topic dresses, ears, jewelry and hair accessories

I've bounded for a few years now, it adds a little bit more fun into my trip planning! I don't do super obvious bounds but I always get a comment or two from CMs and other guests.

They don't have to be really elaborate, my favourite one is Snow White and I wear a pair of yellow shorts, blue tank top, red headband, and red apple earrings and necklace.

I also have a Belle one using the same shorts, yellow tank top, and red rose earrings and necklace.

Bounding is definitely a thing but not super widespread. I've done bounding 3 times-- once as Sadness (2016, my friend was Wreck-it Ralph, and no one got it), once as Briar Rose (2019, see profile pic, that was a group bound where we also had Maleficent and the three fairies, and LOTS of people got it), and once as Gadget (2022, again a group bound with the other Rescue Rangers and lots of people got it). Group bounding is definitely the most fun and makes it more obvious that it's on purpose (and easier to figure out). There was another girl I saw at the parks several times when I was Sadness that I was sure was bounding but I could NOT figure out who she was emulating. It was only a year or so ago that I realized she was GusGus.
