Is Disney working on second Castaway Cay?

Well yay development but aren't there 955 other acres left undeveloped on the original they can use?

If the cruiselines keep this up...there won't be any islands left for drug runners to land their planes on to smuggle into south Florida from...

Like castaway

they are not allowed to develop any more of the island.
one of their biggest problems when the dream class ships was being built, was getting permission from the Bahamian government to retrofit the dock for the larger ships.

I got this info from a conversation with one of the fantasy officers and a cm that stays on the island.

When Disney signed the 99 year lease with the Bahamian government, part of the deal was that about 60% of the island was to remain wild, no development.

I don't discount this rumor, but right now CC isn't fully utilized. There are 2 ships calling at CC each week, the Fantasy once and the Dream twice, leaving 4 days open for another ship to use.

I think it's more likely they would expand the existing facilities rather than start a new island from scratch.

I know for a fact it's more than a rumor. Disney has been seriously planning another island for over a year now. Also after the next two announced ships I've heard rumors that another two are in the works bringing the fleet to 8 ships. I think the more the fleet expands even with the 2 new ships coming the more Disney could see a need for another island.

if you noticed above Disney has to leave over half the island undeveloped. I'm also going to say that I have some insider info on this project and no I didn't get it from wdwmagic.

I doubt all insider info that doesn't come from willow bay...you know that.

But how big does castaway have to be? It's of limit use and the bigger they build...the more expense.

They would have to build a standalone resort with transport to be able to justify the committment/longterm overhead cost of a larger island development.

Not doubting you but 60% undeveloped means around 580 acres untouched, that's still plenty of room to work with if you ask me

Come to think of it, is this second private island not located in the Bahamas?

I do not know the exact 5,it could be a bit more...that is why I said *about* . Disney has been very carefully in their use of the island and surrounding water and reef. Maybe they just feel they do not want to build more and CC and feel a 2nd island would be better to their purposes.

Time will tell.

This may be true in the summer, but in the fall/winter they have all 4 ships plying the Caribbean and from what I can tell in busy season the Island is used 5 or 6 days a week. (Two ships stopping once a week, one stopping twice, and the fourth is doing 5 day itineraries, meaning it comes in 3 times every two weeks.)

Yes, the reported second private island is located in the Bahamas.
I honestly felt that it would make more sense to do it else where because I believe Royal Caribbean has Labadee and another island in the Bahamas (Half Moon Cay I believe but that could be Carnival's). I don't agree with Egg Island though

News out this morning says Disney is abandoning the Egg Island plan. I wonder if they have a backup plan.
