Is Disney Visa worth it??/

I have the disney premier and I love it. I use it for everything (gas, food, restaurants, ect.) and it really adds up over time. I figure since I am spending the money anyways I might as well get some free disney money out of it! :)

I agree. I have Chase Freedom and Chase Disney. The Freedom currently has 5% bonus on restaurants and Lowes and 1% on everything else. That can really add up.

The Freedom bonus on "everything else" is really 1.1%. You get 1% for anything that is not part of the quarterly 5% categories, plus they give you a bonus 0.10% on top of that. They also give you 10 points for each purchase you make...that's equivalent to $0.10 per transaction. So if you use it often, especially for little purchases, that adds up.

Every month, my average cash back is slightly over 2% of my purchases (when you include the 5% bonus categories, the 1.1% on everything else, and the $0.10 per transaction.

I received an offer yesterday, $200 giftcard and waived annual fee for the first year. I called to see what I would get approved for, so went through the approval exercise which I did get approved but she could not tell me the amount!:confused3 She said I would get my card and details in 10 days. I asked if there was a website I can check which she said no. I'm leaving to Aulani next Sat so probably won't get it by than!

I believe I do need to charge $500 in the first 3 months.

You'll want to keep the Chase Freedom card for access to the Ultimate Rewards store too. They have the cheapest car rental rates anywhere. I've literally saved hundreds of dollars on my upcoming Disney trips by booking my car rentals through UR (and trust me, I look for every available discounts; coupon codes, through Costco/BJs, joined the car clubs, Hotwire/Priceline, etc) :thumbsup2

We have had it for the past 6 mos and have accumulated about $300 that we will use for dining since we are not getting the FD that we hoped for. I personally love the card for that and also because every time I take it out to use it and see that castle sparkling on there, I get excited for our trip. My kids do too, so that's been a fun part of the anticipation for us! :)

Although, I have one in my wallet, I would say "no". You can earn better rewards with other cards. One of the best cc's, at least, for rewards is the Chase Sapphire. The sign up bonus is equal to $500. I also think the Southwest Visa when it's giving 50k points is better especially if you fly.

agreed! the Chase Sapphire is a nice addition to the freedom card,as you get points you can combine and transfer to all sort of things like airline partners, hotels, etc. Disney visa doesn't compare, I assume you pay a yearly fee on the amex? Id' cancel that and get the sapphire-

But if you don't want it past the first year, be sure to cancel as it is $95/year annual fee.

Fidelity AmEx gives 2% on ALL purchases......twice that of Disney Visa. We use that as much as possible. We can still use the $$ for Disney! :goodvibes

I use my Chase Freedom only on the 5% categories, then cash out with a check that then goes into my trip fund. I use Disney Visa for everything else and pay it off bi monthly. Works for me:) Neither card has a fee.

I did just get the Capital One Venture card today since we're doing the Med cruise in Aug and they don't charge the 3% international purchase fee that my other cards charge. Their rewards work as a pp mentioned where you earn points and when you travel you simply put in a request to redeem points within 3 mos (IIRC) of the purchase going onto your card then they credit your account.

I believe the there are no international fees with the Chase SWA card as well. I called them about my daughters upcoming trip to Europe.

I am trying to decide if I should get this. Generally I do not like to open extra charge accounts and we are happy with our Priority Club Chase. But for our upcoming Disney cruise, the Disney Visa might make sense.

Can anyone tell me if this is correct:
Assuming I have about $4200 yet to pay on my 2014 cruise:
I could open a Disney Visa and pay about $3500 on my cruise. I have six months to pay that off and then I'd receive $420 Disney Dream Reward dollars (using their website calculator). Can I use that towards my final cruise payment?

Plus I'd receive a $50 Disney gift card which I could also apply to the cruise?

$4200
- 420
- 50
__________
$3730

Does this sound right?

No. If you pay $3500 toward your cruise, you get $35 reward dollars. How did you figure $420? Is the $50 Disney gift card a perk from Chase? If your cruise hasn't increased in price since booking, you could cancel & rebook, paying 100% of the cruise on your DV, then get an additional $50 OBC. I don't know if it's worth it to you to cancel & rebook. Even if price is same you risk losing your cabin & main dining if you currently have it and it's sold out.

THANK YOU for your reply. I thought that sounded too good to be true. I got $420 by going to the Disney Visa website site and plugging $3500 into the the field for "other locations" .

The $50 gift card is offered on their site for signing up.

I won't cancel and rebook for a $50 OBC because I already got $250 OBC from my travel agent.

I appreciate your help with this! :)

I see. Where you plug in 3500, it says if you charge that every month, you will earn $420 after a year.

In reality, just move the decimal over 2 spaces to the left. $3500 >> 35.
Yes, I wouldn't be yanking my TA around like that either. Just a thought if you had booked yourself.

I think I figured out my mistake. The calculator on their site asks for how much you spend EVERY MONTH. I would only be charging the $3500 ONE TIME.

Yep, that was my mistake!

Note that I think you would earn 70, not 35, if the premier visa (with a 50 dollar annual fee), because the premier pays double rewards for disney purchases, but still a far cry from 400

And would it make any difference if they calculate by calendar year as opposed to my own sign-up date anniversary? Just wondering when they issue those reward dollars--or are they always accumulating?

Oh sorry, I just assumed it was the standard card.

Once you make a purchase, it posts to your account. Then at the monthly closing date a statement is created and earned points become available to redeem to a rewards card. So for your first redemption, allow about 1 week for your card to arrive. For future redemptions, you simply transfer funds to the rewards card. This can be done online as well as ordering a new rewards card. The rewards card expires eventually, usually around 2 yrs out so you have to keep an eye on things. Also even if you don't redeem any $ to the rewards card, your DV statement will list when any earned points expire which is further out IIRC than the rewards card. So don't redeem until you're close to being ready to spend.
Mine never stick around long. :lmao:

BTW, you don't have to be stuck with an old rewards card. Ours was close to expiration and I didn't want to take a chance redeeming to it so I ordered a new card then redeemed.

Wow, thanks for that explanation! :)
