Is Disney Visa worth it?

I received an offer in the mail today to apply for a Disney Visa. Would it be worth it to get and put everything on our trip on it, then switch to a lower interest card or pay it off in a month or so after getting back home?
I guess I am wondering does Disney offer special deals or discounts if you use their card...I wouldnt want to keep a balance on it though. :thumbsup2

We've had one for a few months now, and it's the only card I'm using until our trip. Do a search on the DIS for the $50 reward card code. They don't advertise it much, but I used it and got the 50 points as soon as I made my first purchase.

They do little things, like I got an offer for the Disney Movie Club, where DV card holders got an extra two videos (5 instead of 3) for the introductory offer. Normally I stay away from these things since I hate clubs, but this time it was worth it. Three of the videos I was going to purchase for gifts this year anyway, so instead of paying $60+ for those 3 videos, I got 7 for around $25. I'll cancel as soon as my obligation is met.

They also send different codes for discount on Disney stuff from time to time. And I guess the big perk is that if you pay for your Disney vacation on it (staying at a Disney resort w/tickets), you get 6 months to pay it off w/o interest.

I'm sure that there are many other people who use this and have better examples, but this is what I know so far.

Hope this helps!

It's a really great card if you pay it off every month. Otherwise the interest is a little high in my opinion. :scared1:

If you charge your trip to Disney, it is interest free for 6 months. That's a great perk. Plus you get Disney Dollars, $1.00 for every $100.00 you spend. Also get notices and discounts. :cool1:

I plan on using my Disney Dollars as spending money while we are WDW, only 15 more days!!!!!!:woohoo:

It's worth it for us because we charge everything but buy it the balance each month. We go to WDW every year, sometimes more.

I had a mileage card but it was PITA trying to redeem them when we were able to travel.

I like cards where I get money back in this case Disney money. :)

Thanks for the replies !! I think I will apply for it, I like the 6 months to pay off your trip with no interest, and the Disney dollars too !! :cool1:

I applied for one and got mine last week in the mail. I was going to wait until I went to Disney to use it. Should I go ahead and purchase something with it or just wait?

I also have the card. I have what I feel is "found money" on the rewards card because I made purchases I had too and then got the rewards points and it's our "spending money" for our upcoming trip, YEAH!

I will say that even though I heard here on the DIS that certain promo's are suppossed to come to the Visa holders first, I was never notified by Visa. I only learned of them HERE, so I was still able to book earlier then the general public, but NOT becasue Visa notifed me like they were suppossed too. (There are some long threads and complaints on this topic actually.)
I also intend to use it to pay off the trip and depending, will consider the free interest thing as well.

You can let the Disney dollars build up on it and then have them put on a card to use at Disney. That's pretty nice. I really don't do anything else with it. I never have booked a trip with it. Does the same 6 mos thing apply to cruises?

I'm really not that great with figuring out how to get the most out of CC's. We have a LL Bean one that we never use-no balance. I did use it once to get free monogramming and shipping on a bunch of totes I was ordering as gifts. We have the Chase Disney one too. Some one told me I should use it pay my mortgage each month and then pay the CC off each month to get the reward dollars. I have no idea how I would use a CC to pay my mortgage though-I get a statement in the mail and there is no spot to put CC info.

The other nice thing about the Disney CC is that you can make a payment by phone for free. We were on vacation last summer for 2 weeks and I realized that by the time I got home, mailed the bill, the CC payment might be late. I only had like a $1000. balance on the card, but I was really afraid they would raise my interest rate if the payment was late. I called them from South Carolina and a really nice girl let me pay it over the phone with my checking account. I had to do this once before with a gas card, again we were on a 2 week vacation. They let me do it, but I think charged me around 8 dollars for it. Chase was free.

I just got my card a few weeks ago; I'm using the introductory "no finance charges for 6 months" to buy a new washer and dryer. Then I plan to use it for purchases I can pay off when the bill comes so I can build up the points for our next trip. I'll also use it to book our next trip as trips qualify for the "no interest for 6 months" promo.

I have a question about the reward points.

Do you get reward points when you use the card to book a Disney vacation?

I have a question about the reward points.

Do you get reward points when you use the card to book a Disney vacation?

You get rewards for ANYTHING you purchase - 1 reward dollar for each $100 purchase. :)

I use my card to pay my car and homeowner's insurance bills, cell phone, cable bill, and anything else I can! Purchases made at grocery stores, gas stations, and drug stores I put on my Citi card where I get 2% back in cash!! (used to be 5% :() I pay all balances off each month (make payments online during the month) otherwise it would not be worth it if I had to pay interest on it!! For last year's trip we had $298 in Disney Reward Dollars and $316 in cash from Citi for our trip and about the same for the trip the year before!

I have a question.

I have been making payments on my trip, through the disney website, will I get to pay the balance off with my Disney Visa and still get 6 months 0 %?
( I paid the downpayment with the DV card)

It's worth it if you pay the balance off every month. I have earned about 200.00 since last april for our june trip. I love being getting something for nothing, as I pay my bill full each month.

I waiver in this issue. I use mine and really one percent isn't much. When I signed up I recieved a $50 bonus and that was nice.

It was nice too get a free pic at Epcot when we were there. It is nice to have but if you find a card with better offers use it.

I cancelled mine years ago. 1% back is really, really low. There are cards that give as much as three times that. Some are reward cards and others are cash back. Right now, I have a Norwegian Cruise Line credit card and I get about $2,000 a year worth of cruise money so we cruise free (two people in a balcony room) about every 18 months.

Can someone tell me what 52 rewards points will get me (if anything)? Where can I see a breakdown of the rewards?

TIA!

52 reward points = 52 dollars to spend at disney, disneyshopping.com, etc.

You have to call and request the points be converted into the rewards dollars (I think you receive them on a gift card type card and it takes several weeks) or I heard you can do it at Disney, somewhere in DTD I think. I haven't converted any yet.

If I understand right, to take advantage of the 0% disney vacation, you couldn't use your card for anything else because they'll apply your payment to the lowest APR first, which will then cause you to pay interest on the other balance. Is that right?
