Is Disney Vacation Account worth it for DVC members?

What are the benefits to using the DVA for DVC members? We don't typically have paid reservations so can the money be used for dining, etc. when there? It says you can add money and then get a gift card but only 1 $500 card per account for it's lifetime. How do you use the money you put in for a trip then?
It's a convenient way to save for your Disney AP, hotel or cruise, that's all no big money maker or anything else. It is what it is and for me it works, direct debit comes out weekly and ap is paid for. If your trying to make money buy stocks.

Fibermouse, I wasn't trying to make money. Just wanting to know if I could use the money for anything other than DVC dues providing they continue that. For us, I think it's a no simply because we don't buy AP and purchase our tickets from Undercover Tourist and the dining plan is not something we do because it'd cost more with our eating habits. That only leaves it to be used on hotel or cruise and with DVC our accommodations are taken care of. We like to cruise but not sure when we will next. Since you can get a gift card with some of what you save, I thought maybe we could use it for things like normal dining but it appears that's not the case.

I think it's a good program for those that do have a room cost or do the dining plan and APs but we don't do those so for us it really doesn't work. If I thought they would continue letting everyone use it to pay the DVC dues, I'd do it for that alone but they aren't saying that's an option.

Again, the program works for some and is a good option.

No you were not, did not mean to quote you, my bad. I was referring to some of the replies you received with better ways to save money, lol we all know Disney and saving money do not go together.
