So, I got my "can you believe your vacation is 7 days away?" email from Disney. In it, there was a link to a packing list.

I thought it was a nice gesture. I make my own packing list, so having one "prettied up" by Disney sounds nice. Until I opened it.

It is a 12 MB PDF that takes forever to load and has only 6 things listed!! I mean, I have full PowerPoint presentations that are smaller!

Obviously they aren't just inept at web design...its everything computer related...

Even I can make a better list than this using freeware off the internet!

You are right. That is the most inefficient use of a portable document file I have ever seen too!

Yes. Only six things on list. Someone is asleep at the switch!

Hehe, it is a little big. Its the image Im sure. You cant use power point or any other non free program though is probably the issue (how would people view it and print it?). Only took 6 or 7 seconds to load, I was actually impressed with the speed from their site. I think forever is a serious over exageration, its 12 megs, not 120, and its a free prettied up packing list as you said, its a nice gesture. I dont actually think there is a similar program thats cross platform that any significant portion of computer users use.

Wow! Very poor execution, agreed. And for the previous poster who said it didn't take forever to load - maybe on your computer, it didn't. On mine, I clicked the link, then watched an extensive interview on CNN while waiting for it to load - not what you expect for such a plain document with so little content.

It took roughly 3 minutes to load on my computer. We don't have super high speed, being on a rural antenna, but we aren't on dial up either. I manage our company's website-an association for 100k members. Anytime we make changes we ask ourselves "how will this work over a slow connection?"

Disney obviously does not care about that sort of thing. They are all about pretty pictures, flash animation, and slow loading videos. The content is lacking so they flash some pretty stuff up hoping we won't notice the links that go nowhere, the buttons that don't work and the lack of features. Sure, they have a low bandwidth version, but the link for that comes up after all the music and balloons load on the first page.

I'm not suggesting they use powerpoint, BTW. I was just using that for comparison.

timed it, only took 9 seconds. but your right, it is pretty lame for a packing list.

I'll agree that its a HUGE file but it only took 5 seconds to d/l and open on my macbook. I do like the file but I'd say some pretty key things are missing...like CLOTHES! :lmao:

I agree that is joke but size of the file as well as them only listing six things, give me a break.:confused3

Here's another link for your enjoyment- an 8 MB sheet to write your own reservation #'s on!

I foolishly clicked on this link in the email thinking that maybe they were sending me some sort of printout with my ADRs and reservations on it....kinda like how the hotels will print a copy for you when you check in.

Note that they made sure to get the copyright symbol on it. I don't think they have to worry to much about people stealing this lame stuff.

PS--I envy those of you who can open 12 MB file in seconds. Of course, I love looking out my window and seeing my horses along with the hawks, deer, fox, and all sorts of other wildlife. Living in the sticks has its benefits and drawbacks.

I think the idea is to give you an outline to make your own list. Basically giving you stationary, and they are just hitting the staples items to bring to make a memorable trip.

No I did not make this, and nor do I work for disney, but I would have been super excited to get something like this simply b/c it says disney on it haha

Kind of agree with this. As you can see from some other answers, it didnt take more than a few seconds for a lot of people, and ITS FREE. Its not really disney's fault if your bandwidth on your computer is the same as it was in 1995. most people these days easily do 1mb / 2 seconds even on cheap connections.

Would you prefer they mail it out to you and waste all the paper of all the people that didn't use it to save you the 15 seconds?

Gosh, i cant imagine why'd you bother to complain about such a thing.

The Dang thing locked my computer down for 2 minutes!

Running Dell Pentinum Quad Core Server running internet though a decicated T1 line.... Guess a need a mac :rotfl2: :lmao:
