Is Disney getting outdated for you?

There are definitely things that change perspective as you grow up...I can't believe how tiny MK is, compared to what it seemed like even as a teen.

But I wish they'd even bring back a lot of the old things that made it even more magical for me - Mr. Toad's, Main St Penny Arcade / Magic Shop, Mickey Butter, etc.

I personally like the Mexico ride...it's a cool break from the heat. The only ride I think they should replace in all parks is the Backtour ride in MGM. I think Disney could utilize this space much more wisely. Since they took out the home facades, etc...it just seems like a waste of space.

I don't think Disney is outdated.....I do think some of the resorts (mainly AS Sports) needs refurbed!

I love Disney no matter what!

Never, Never, Never. I know that there are some rides and shows are outdated but so what. I do wish they would update The American Adventure though. I also wish they would get rid of Honey I Shrunk the Audience and put a new 3-d film in there. And please, please put some money and work into Carousel of Progress. We just love this show and hope it is always around. :)

While Disney theme parks are constantly being updated and upgraded, they cannot and should not update things at the breakneck pace the OP's friend implies they should. After all, as Walt himself said of Disneyland, "Here age relives fond memories of the past...and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future." To me, that says that Walt saw the theme parks as a mix of old and new, always looking both toward the past and toward the future.

If every time we went every attraction had changed, the parks would be greatly diminished. How magical would it be if Mom and Dad couldn't put their children on the same Dumbo ride they "flew" on when they were kids?

I don't know, several folks have knocked the Mexico {El Rio DelTiempo} ride, but I love the thing. Don't really know why. And DW only goes on with me to humor me. Last week, I had to pick someone up at MCO in the afternoon, and I spent the morning in Epcot. Went, and stayed on the ride 5 times! The CM thought it was great that I wanted to keep going 'round and 'round, and said: "senor, stay on again" but I told him I had to get a bite to eat and then get to the airport. Then he says, "please come back again senor" I said "you can count on it"

Well things like Star Wars and Indiana Jones are movies that stand the test of time. Its like saying Great Movie Ride should cutout Casablanca and the Wizard of Oz. Im almost 30 yrs old and I grew up with the likes of IJ and SW, so for me to go to MGM and see things like Ewok Village and the big AT-AT Walker is what makes me feel young again. I think that an attraction like Star Tours shows its older by the technology it uses, and would agree that it should be updated with some new stuff, but I dont think removing Star Wars just because its an old movie is the right answer.

Shakespeare's plays and sonnets are old, but yet, we still study them in school and in some cases, there are specific classes dedicated to his works.

Disney isn't outdated, just becoming more appreciated and classical. I also believe Disney is trying it best to keep some attractions up-to-date and appealing to the kids...I mean, they took out Alien-Encounter and replaced it with Stitch's Great Escape. They took out the Timekeeper and they took out Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Play it! to replace it with more modern attractions.

I just think that some people don't get the magic. I've been with lots of folks like that. The worst are the ones who can't get into it because they don't have much of an imagination! :)

Exactly! It's the magic and imagination that keeps Disney "modern". ;)

If they messed with the classics, they would have far more upset people than just the handful who don't think that WDW is "updated" enough. I would be broken hearted to come back to WDW one day and have everything changed. I do agree that the last scene of Carousel of Progress could be made a little more futuristic since that scene is pretty current. And as far as El Rio Del Tempo..............don't mess with it! If they made it exciting then it wouldn't be the nice "no line, walk on and take a break from the Florida heat" ride that it currently is! :teeth:

Disney as I know it would be ruined if it was entirely redone to be as some say, "up-to-date". I agree with you.

Yea, speaking of Star Wars, now that Ei$ner is gone, I wonder if they will try to woo Lucas back. He and Ei$ner did not see eye to eye after a while. In fact, as I recall, Lucas down right disliked Ei$ner. :guilty:
That ride, at the very least, can use a new movie, and probably some new technology. It is suprising that with the big Star Wars weekends that they have now, that the fans aren't complaining more about the old ride. Ever notice how there are more and more flaws in the film and the screen they show it on.? And it does not matter which ride unit you are on, they all have a bunch of little flaws. Sorry, getting a little :offtopic: now. :)

Youre saying that as if its a good thing

I love the classics! There is too much room at MGM/AK/Epcot to take out old rides for something new. Keep the old ones and put the extra space to good use! Some rides and movies do need to be "tweaked" but not changed completly...and bring back Mr. Toad!!

Heh, I don't mean to. I was aiming at just providing an example of how they are taking classic rides and replacing them with things that are more recent to the time.

No, personally I HATE that they replaced AE with what they did.

When I was there 13 years ago, I felt that Tomorrowland was vastly outdated. Thankfully they finally changed that! Splash Mountain was only open for a year at MK then, too.

Star Tours at MGM was still pretty new back at that time as well. I'm looking forward to experiencing again; this time with DH and DS4 in tow!

I'm sooo looking forward to getting back down there and seeing all the updates and additions that have been done.

IMO they could at least update the little movies or films in the rides like El Rio del Tiempo, I think thats probably where most of the criticism comes in.

The same for some of the other films in World Showcase but I believe we may start seeing new ones (China has already and Canada may be next)

China has a new one? Oh well, looks like my DH won't see our local fireworks family. When the original film for China was shot, our local fireworks family, the Grucci's (and friends of my FIL), were there on vacation and wound up on the film.

But I do agree with the movies in WSC. They definately, do need some updating.

My DH and I agree on one little update that WDW should do(which we don't think should be difficult or expensive for WDW) is to update the movies at the end of the Great Movie Ride at MGM. We do love that ride(our 6 yr old DS loves it too) :goodvibes

I could somewhat see how Disney is outdated. All of us on here are old enough to have been around all of the major Disney movies that came out...Snow White, Cinderella, Lion King, etc. etc... I was talking to my 6 year old cousin the other day who is going in a couple of months. I was trying to get him excited by listing a bunch of the rides (How about Peter Pan? Do you like Winnie the Pooh?) , and he basically stared at me like I had two heads. I think its good they update with new attractions like Stitch, Bugs Life, and Nemo, but it makes me sad to think that a lot of the great classics might be passing children by. I know that my cousins will still have a blast, but he barely even knew who Mickey is. Perhaps I need to try a little bit harder with my excitement ratio next time :confused3
