Is Disney getting outdated for you?

Part of the Disney Magic for me is being transported back to when I was a little girl and I went with my dad. Last time I was there in 2003 I kept having flashbacks to other times I had been there. I could almost feel my daddy with me as I got on Small World , and I was saddened when I realized Carousel of Progress was closed as it was always my dads favorite. Its a fun great vacation but also a trip down memory lane, so I do not see it has outdated. Now I am looking forward to our Feb. 2007 trip when I will indeed have my daddy with me again, and my three dd's will have Papaw along to ride the rides with them just like he did with me. Its just almost making me cry as I write this remembering how hard my dad worked and how he could be distracted but when we were at Disney he was all ours with no distractions.

Well I do think the movies in Epcot are rather dated that's why I don't watch em' anymore. =D But it really doesn't bother me too much.....

I love Disney for what it is...Pure Unadulterated FUN Fun Fun! pirate: :wizard:

As Auntie Mame says...You Gotta LIVE LIVE LIVE! party: :rainbow:

My favorite thing to do is go to the Carousel of Progress. Why? It is relaxing, fun and entertaining. Who cares if it is outdated, it reminds me of the very first time I was at WDW (1972!) and I loved this attraction.

I understand there is a new film in production for the Canada pavilion. If you want to see outdated, how about the Carousel of Progress? But I love it still. More importantly, my kids love it -- even those difficult-to-please teenage girls.

I think there may be a phase one goes through at some point where sophistication sets in, which is replaced some years later by nostalgia.

What's outdated about teh COP? We went in March and again last May and they have updated the last scene to be more "modern". The Dad is cooking with a voice-command oven, grandma and grandson are playing virtual video games, mom is programming her computer (laptop?). Now, of course the technology could always be more forward thinking.....but we don't have a voice-command oven in our kitchen yet!....I don't think the technology in the last scene should be considered "outdated".

There are some outdated attractions, yes. But, no other theme park has the magic and the feel of Disney. I think we all know that. So, cutting edge technology isn't necessarily the most important thing in the world. I do think the Great Movie Ride needs an update. Also, the Canada film. There are attractions I just don't like such as Stitch and Sounds Dangerous, but I don't think "outdated" is the right word.

As far as COP, I would just die if I couldn't see it. It's such a nostalgic, classic attraction. And, I agree that the last seen is pretty modern. I don't talk to my oven, do ya'll?

Sounds like your friend didn't get the Disney Magic.

It never gets old for me.

While there are certain classics that still are fantastic like HM and POTC, others such as El Rio del Tiempo are kinda painful for me these days.

I have it agree with you. :thumbsup2

However, it's like when I was a teenager it wasn't cool to be with my parents. Now, I think my daddy is so cool, the older I get the more I like the classic things.

I wouldnt change a thing...the feeling I got when I was there was complete happiness. Hakuna Matata :)

No, I don't really feel that way. Some of the classic things are some of my favorites...COP, TTA, Rio del Tiempo.

I do think the film in France showing people with 80's hairdo's could use a remake, but I love the COP they way it is.

Disney is Disney.

IMHO no one will ever be able to compete with Disney.

Your friend went for the first time when she was in her late 40's. Did she "grow up" around Disney? Did she watch "The Wonderful World of Disney"? Does she believe in the magic of Mickey Mouse? I do believe that there are people out there that just don't "get" Disney. :confused3 I have family members that can't believe that I want to spend every vacation at WDW...Either you get Disney or you don't...It's not for everyone...HOWEVER...it is for me! And when the other nonbelievers don't go to the parks, it leaves more room for those of us that do. :wizard:

WDW could use some updating. minor on movies. but love it as is.

Why oh why must everything be "current" for some people. I don't get that thinking? Truth is they don't get it and never will. :sad2:

This has been the scene for about two-three years now,so I can see the point about CoP needing a bit of an update.

Sure some things are a little old but disney is also great at introducing new things. ex. Expedition Everest in AK and Stiches big adventure in MK. I love muppets 3D in MGM. yes the jokes are old, the characters are old but it's still a hoot to me (I'm in my 40's also). One of the things that I think Disney is the best at (much better than any other theme park)is the variety. There are thrill rides, tame rides, up to date newer attractions and the ole' reliables that we love. BTW the did a fabulous job of updating POTC by including the new characters.

The only park I'm bored with is MGM, I think it needs a new ride or two. They have a few empty buildings, Millionaire, where Narnia was and the building over by Indiana Jones. I hope they fill them up soon.

Oh yeh the new big invention...laser discs! :rotfl:

No, I don't think Disney is outdated other than the WS movies and the Mexico ride. I really like the classics and have a great time on them! It makes me think back to when I was there as a little girl with my parents. They do have updated things - Expedition Everest for one! It all goes back to, you either get or your don't and your friend sounds like she didn't.

While some things may need updating, the "outdated" is what is near and dear to my heart! The original is best is what I am going with here. For instance, when I sit down to watch the movie in France, I know it over 20 years old, but so what? It still gives me that wonderful happy feel that Epcot gives.

In fact, I worry when Disney announces they are re-vamping a ride or attraction (think POTC, LS). With Pirates, what needed changing? Nothing in my opinion, and I guess it could have been considered outdated. With Living Seas, it needed revitalization certainly, but I am glad they only tweaked, not changed.

Outdated attractions? Nah! Beloved? Oh, yes!

Overall - no, but there are a few that could use some overhaul...Like the WS movies (as others have said) I mean how much does it cost to reshoot those movies every ten years or so?

One of the rides I'd like to see updated is the Muppets. I love the Muppets, but that same show is getting tired. I do also find too many of the plotlines rely on the 'something gone wrong' device...Muppets, HISTA, DINOSAUR, Mission:Space, Stitch's great escape, Pooh (to a point), Tiki birds, ToT, Star Tours, Imagination with Figment, safari ride, PhilharMagic.

Oh, and the Flights of Wonder...the schtick about the guy whose afraid of birds....Love the birds, but I find that guy just a little annoying.

Still, I'll takea day at Dinsey over a non-Disney day any time.
