Is Disney dining really limited?

Remember if you use SSR that it has five or six bus stops and you need to pick the correct one to access the walking path to DTD. Do not get off the bus at just any stop or you will have a much longer walk than you anticipated.

:confused3 Is Planet Hollywood on the dining plan? I know there is a voucher for it.

Honestly, I think the DDP will be a large waste of money for you. I would go with the QSDP or even pay OOP. I think you pay about $42/day for the DDP...you can definitely get 3 CS meals for cheaper than that!

A bacon double cheeseburger w/ fries is $8.59. x2/day (lunch and dinner) = $17.19. And then breakfast platters are roughly the same. So you can get what you want to eat for about $20 cheaper a day than the DDP.

And I would NOT want to be trekking all the way to DTD each evening for dinner. Giant waste of time.

If you decide to keep the DDP, I would do buffets buffets buffets.

Also beside Buffets and Planet Hollywood(which ok but kind of mediocre chain food), you can schedule lunch at Sci Fi in Hollywood Studios as they have great burgers, fries and shakes. Also Beaches and Cream right outside of Epcot at the Beach Club resort, they do accept DP but don't take reservations so you'd have to walk up and wait for a table. But Beaches and Cream has burgers, cheesesteaks, grilled cheese, hot dogs, fries and rings and not too mention the best ice cream desserts. The Plaza in MK also serves burgers and sandwiches.

You might want to try some other places with less junk food meals though(like buffetts or meat and potato type places). With all the walking, heat, ect ect there is a very good chance you can get very sick from all that grease and lack of proper protein and vegies. Trust me, as an aniemic, I've learned this the very very hard way using the quick service dining plan. It's flat out not healthy period but add the stress of Disney on top of it and it can mean hospital.

If you really want burgers at every meal, I would do the Quickservice dining plan and only eat at CS places. I don't think there are many TS places that serve burgers for dinner for adults. I don't think I've ever seen a grilled cheese sandwich on an adult menu at Disney. In fact, I don't recall seeing grilled cheese on an adult menu anywhere in the world with the exception of Cheesecake Factory, and we eat out all the time.

There are some TS places that serve burgers for lunch, but not at dinner. Sci-Fi and Le Celliar are 2 I can think of.

Do you eat steak? There are many restaurants that serve steak for dinner. Pretty much all of them, in fact. The buffets are not going to have burgers. Roast beef carving stations, yes. Burgers, no. They won't have grilled cheese either.

What I wouldn't do is trek to DTD every night for dinner. You will mis so much in the parks in the evenings...all the fireworks, nighttime parades, etc. I would just do the quickservice plan.

Hi All,

I am going to Disney the first time in February with my family. I am somewhat of a picky eater, I like a burger or a grilled cheese or some pasta. My kids like chicken nuggets or grilled cheese. I signed up for a dining plan and as I am looking through I only see three restaurants that have what I would consider normal American fare - the Plaza, Rainforest Grill and Planet Hollywood, where I can get a burger and the kids can get chicken and grilled cheese. Am I missing something, or are all the rest of the restaurants geared towards people who like more upscale food? I am not talking about quick dining by the way, I am talking about table service meals.

Here's an example - the "50's cafe" - a cafe and I can't get a burger or a BLT or something?

Cousin Eric's Char-grilled Chicken Sandwich - marinated chicken breast topped with cheddar, grilled onions, barbeque sauce, lettuce and tomato on a Kaiser roll, with a house salad or french fries $13.49

Grandma's Chicken Pot Pie - creamy mixture of chicken, mushrooms, carrots, celery, peas, and onions topped with a flaky pastry $16.99

Mom's Old-Fashioned Pot Roast - slow-cooked until fork tender served with mashed potatoes, carrots, celery and onions $16.99

Uncle Dana's Artichoke and Ricotta Agnolotti - Pearl Pasta with Roasted Zucchini and Crookneck Squash with spicy Tomato Broth $16.99

Fish Sandwich - beer-battered haddock on a crusty roll, with lettuce, tomato, and tartar sauce, served with a house salad or french fries $12.49

Dad's Traditional Meatloaf - a blend of beef and pork topped with tomato glaze, served with mashed potatoes, and green beans $14.99

Aunt Liz's Golden Fried Chicken - served with mashed potatoes, chicken gravy and southern greens $15.99

Caesar Salad with Chicken - Romaine lettuce tossed with Caesar dressing, grated parmesan cheese, garlic croutons topped with sliced grilled chicken $12.99; Also available with salmon $13.99

Stacked Sandwich - Your choice of smoked turkey or ham on seven grain bread, lettuce, tomatoes, Swiss cheese and mayonnaise, served with a house

Also, if you're a picky eater, the 50's Prime Time Cafe is NOT the place for you. The wait staff is all in character and will make fun of you in front of the other diners if you don't eat your vegetables. They even made my friend eat her southern greens while everyone made airplane noises. It's hilarious, but doesn't seem like something you'd enjoy based on what you're saying here.

Since you're just a month out, a lot of the most popular restaurants aren't going to have openings. Those got booked 4-5 months ago!!
I have to agree that the regular dining plan may not be your best bet...unless you utilize it at buffets. My dd, 17, is a very discriminating eater....when we go to buffets, she eats nuggets, pizza slices and mac and cheese. There is usually sliced beef and other 'normal' type things. But, there is no way you are going to be able to get exactly what you want....burgers, grilled cheese, nuggets at every single place.
I wouldn't call the food offerings at WDW to be Manhatten-esque. It just isn't your regular Friendly's or Perkins fare. It is going to be a step up.
The best burger I have had onsite was at Rainforest Cafe. But no dining plan taken there. You may want to change over to the QS dining plan and add a few Rainforest Cafe meals to that.

i think if all it served was burgers and grilled cheese, then it would be very limited. try the troll soup, seems that you may want to stir the pot.

Do you eat steak or chicken. You can always order your meals without whatever sauce is served on them and usually you can change the side - fries are almost always available. I have 2 picky children (one adult and one ds9) but both have no problems finding stuff to eat at Disney. We do avoid places like Boma or Chefs de France. As for grilled cheese, I don't believe there's many places that serve it and those that do are more of a "deluxe" grilled cheese - not just American cheese on bread.

Thanks all for your input. I called today and switched to the quick service plan, sounds like I can get plenty of burgers and things via that. I was thinking that all the quick service stuff was McDonalds-ish but it sounds like it is actually fairly decent, just not sit-down, which will work for us. I'm sure the sit down places are nice for most but I'm just very simple with my tastes so I think the quick service will be better.

Quick service is great and if you decide you might like something a bit more then just burgers and chicken then think about these suggestions....

Animal Kingdom has FLame Tree Barbeque---a great half ribs plate with beans and coleslaw.....and it's QSDP.

Hollywood Studios----there is STarring Roles, next to the Brown Derby...they have great deli sandwiches...and these monster cupcakes (note: they only make a set number of sandwiches, cupcakes for the day and when sold out they are done...also they close at like 3-4 no matter what...but worth checking out. Also my family really likes Pizza Planet, although lots of other people don't.

Epcot - Sunshine Seasons in the Land- has many different chioces to pick from- theres a deli sandwich station, chinese food, rotisserie chicken....and the best strawberry shortcake in WDW.

If you want to stretch your eating habits a bit without having to pay OOP, go to DTD and eat at the Westside Wolfgang Pucks....great food, but the descriptions make it sound fancier then it really is...but it is more upscale then any other QSDP... but so worth it.

If staying at Pop...they have the best food court out of any of the resorts...including those fancy Deluxe resorts.

I think you made the right move. I enjoy the CS meals at Disney. That way you can eat when your hungry and not have to be somewhere at a certain time.
