We went on our first Disney trip (since we were kids) at the Poly concierge first week in September with our 7 & 5 yo. We upgraded to Lagoon view. It was a wonderful week. Now we find ourselves thinking about going again next year. I used to see on the boards so many people who returned again and again but couldn't understand. But now, we find ourselves feeling the exact same way.

What is it about this place that makes you want to go back?

AND is it just as special the next time and the next time?

I finally went on my first WDW trip last June at age 31 yrs old:eek:

I fell in love with the place, the magic, the care-free feeling.

When we were down there we knew we wanted to go back. We have planned another WDW trip in December, it won't be as long as we would like because of vacation times, and such. But we really want to see WDW during the Holidays.

We also have a 12 day trip plan for June 2004.

DH & I also talked about going back for a whole 2 weeks sometime between April-June of 2005!!!

I don't know what it is, just something magical about Disney. I am hoping the magic is just as magical on our second trip. Guess I will find out in about 60 days!! :hyper:

Change your tag devine because you'll be back in WDW within the year. ::yes:: Its very addictive but at least the place is huge and you can find new things to do while still doing the family favorites. Some people like to set goals....trying new restaurants or resorts each trip, some like to surprise the kids, some like to have the kids plan the trip, some like taking a pool day or shopping day. There's tons of variety in one small place making it it magical each time you visit.

::yes:: In a word...YES... Disney is very addictive. I think it should come with a warning lable.

My husband and I went for our honeymoon 7 years ago. It took us 5 years to make it back. We returned the next year and joined DVC. We now feel like going 3 times a year should be just enough.

Yes, people think we are crazy for going so much, but the joke is really on them. They really don't know what they are missing.

My family can't understand why my husband and I go every year either  , but unless they actuall go to WDW they are never going to understand how addictive it really is. :teeth:
While my first trip was in 83 my husband had never been until 2000 and after we got back home, he was already planning our trip for 2001. :) And yes it is just as special each time we go back, so go ahead and make plans for next year if you can, and have a magical time. :D

Yes! It seems the more I go the more I want to go. And these boards dont help much in the addiction. ;)

:D

I truly believe that WDW is a magical place. That's what brings me back and it always will. I think I'm even more astonished and overwhelmed now at the magic it brings than when I was a child, but it is that very child that still lives within me that needs to feel that Disney "Magic." Whether it come to by watching a Disney movie or actually being at WDW, the "Magic" will always keep me coming back for more.

There should be a 12-step program!!!

DH and I went to DL for 2 days in 98. After that, we were fying to get back! It took us till December '01 (marriage and baby in between visits!) to return. We were figuring on another 3 years till we were back after that trip -- well, we're coming up on our 4th trip in 2 years:Pinkbounc !!! Riding into work this morning I heard more detail on the Disney visa package out now. I believe we'll be returning in late Spring with a DCL trip booked for September and another DCL trip planned for 9/05. If this isn't an addiction, I don't know what is!!!

Erin :D I LOVE ::MickeyMo

DH says it's something in the water ;). I just finished planning my 17 day Disney vacation for December, and was calculating my vacation time. I have loads of vacation time left. Perhaps I can sneak in a quick weekend (or 2, or 3...). No, it's not addictive at all. This December will be trip #28. I have three more planned for next year!

I too agree that Disney is additive but a good addiction, so if I have to be addicted to something, it may as well be this. I am returning back to Disney in November, my third trip down from NY this year. This one is going to be a solo trip and I can't wait. I am 45 years old and was just speaking with one of my co-workers who also has the bug and we were wondering if this feeling ever goes away. I hope not. Am I told old to be in love with this place. Most of friends who are my age are taking Carribbean vacations and can't understand it. I tell them that if they haven't visited Disney then I can't explain this feeling. I have come to realize that i don't need an excuse to come to Disney. It use to be for my daughter but now that she's 21 and in college what excuse am I suppose to use...haha (who mentioned the 12 step program)...

:smooth:

What makes it addictive?

With the high cost of any vacation (money and time), the most important thing is being assured you won't be disappointed. WDW seems to recognize that in all aspects - the resorts, theme parks, restaurants, shops. It may be expensive, and you may wonder if it's worth the money - but you'll never come back and say you were disappointed (at least not on any large scale).

You can go to another city and find it dirtier than you expected. Or find your hotel not as convenient to the city's attractions as you'd like. There's a decent chance that something will be less than expected. At WDW, there is almost no chance. That's what got us going back again and again when the kids were younger. We basically said "we get one vacation a year, and if we're going to spend thousands on it, let's be sure we get what we pay for, and that it's close to 100% sure it will be enjoyable and memorable." It got to the point we were afraid to try anything else (we finally did, and sure enough on our last three non-Disney vacations, one was very disappointing and cost much more.) We went back this past year after five years off, and it again was perfect. I doubt there are many other places that "get it" like WDW.

Is Disney addictive? ... does the sun rise in the east? ::yes::

I haven't even got my first trip to Disney over yet(Oct 18-25) and I am already planning # 2 in May and talking about a #3 for 2005. First trip is DH, DS2, DS3, myself, MIL, and 2 DN's. 2nd trip is supposed to be myself, 2 DS's, my dad, brother and niece. 3rd trip looks like a big family trip with the in-laws  . Wish me luck. LOL. Seems a little addicting to me. These boards are really addicting too. 9 more days to go.

Great question! The answer is an emphatic YES!

My DW and I decided to have our first big vacation (more than a weekend) with our DD5. We felt our little girl Lauren would be about the right age at exactly 5 1/2 to handle a minivan trip and a big vacation.

Where to go? Hmmmm, how about WDW?

I had been there in 1975 for one day. Boy, how the times have changed.

I love to research for a vacation. These DISBOARDS have been a huge resource. I feel they also lend to the addictiveness since they are so accessible and there is that "insider" or "club" feeling due to the DW, DH, MK, AKL, etc little quick letter codes.

We went for the first time in June '02 for seven days. We stayed at a moderate resort.

We were just blown away at the quality and the wonderful treatment we received.

We had no intention of going back. When we got home with our pictures (12 rolls!), we watched the Disney produced video again. Hmmmm, we missed that and that and that and, gee we missed that too.

Maybe we should go back and make up for what we missed?

When it was time to think about a vacation for the summer of 2003, we just couldn't think of anything else we'd rather do.

So in August, down south we drove again. It was just as magical. Our DD6 just loved it again. We felt we managed things better, having experienced WDW once already. We were better equipped, had a better plan. We did it all this time. We took in the old attractions we decided against during our first trip (Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, etc).

Now we have so much Disney clotheswear and other things, we are thinking that a Disney Cruise next year might be the way to go.

The plan now is to return to WDW in six years when we'll then have a DD12. She will probably not remember much and being there will be alot of fun to jog her memory.

But I wouldn't be surprised if we return earlier. Or maybe a trip to DisneyLand instead!

Our kitchen is now Disney themed. DD6 has been a Disney princess or character for halloween the last five years. We carved Disney pumpkins last year!

Addictive? Oh yeah. And I'm a guy!

My first disney vacation was to California in 1974. My dad said (who had never been there before) we'll stay for a couple of hours and then be on our way. We arrived around 9am and at midnight my dad was saying,"Do you think it's time to go home yet". :D
Then 1977 my big high school graduation present from my older sister was a trip to WDW. She really wanted to go. ;) 1983 We took Mom and Dad to see it. 1988 Time to go with older brother and his wife and 2 young daughters.:) 15 years later the FTP came out and I was getting tired of listening to my sister talk about taking our now youngest niece (14y) for her middle school graduation gift. So I said lets go and we did! Stayed for the first time on property and we definitely are hooked. Next year going again, this time with 8 family members and hope to stay at the OKW. My sister always use to say as we were leaving, well we won't be back, now she is saying when we go again........!
It is a great place to vacation! ::yes::

Is Disney Addictive?

No, it's not addictive. I can quit anytime I want...Really I can....whenever I want.

Who am I kidding.......My name is RealMickey and I am an Disney addict.::MickeyMo

My wife says that sometimes she thinks I spend more time being a Disney Freak than anything else. Of course she is right there with me.

We started back in 1986 and went once a year every year until 1999. Since then we average 4 trips a year for about 30 plus days. And still always go away saying we have to do this or that next time down.

My 2 daughters are grown and still come with us almost every time. At least one is there each visit. And our Son-in-Law came when he was dating our daughter and now he is addicted. For their Honeymoon the only place he wanted to go was WDW. My daughter said to me "I guess he is hooked too". HAHA And now my youngest daughter's boyfriend is on the Disney Express. HAHAHA

Oh and as you see below we are going 2 more times this year and yes we wil be a party of 6.

We are not addicted -- We are not addicted -- We are not Addicted

HAHAHA

I could have had a new kitchen (WHICH I DESPERATELY NEED) for what we spent on WDW last year....

I guess the kitchen will have to wait again because we just renewed our passes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
