Is Dinosaur too scary for 4 year old?

I'm so glad someone asked this question. I've been struggling with this decision myself. DS will turn 6 while we are there. He is nuts over dinosaurs, so I hope he will like the ride! He does o.k. on almost any ride, as long as it doesn't have a big drop. I know the ride is bumpy, but does it have any big dips?

I am also glad someone asked this question. We will be there in a few weeks. My almost 5 year old LOVES Dinosaurs...they are his favorite thing right now. But I have really debated on letting him ride or not. I think I will talk to him and explain what it will be like and let him decide. I hope that he ends up thinking it is "cool" too! :bounce:

Dinosaur scares me at almost 31...so unless you have quite the brave soul, I think that it would scare a 4 and a 5 year old. Its very dark and bumpy and dinosaurs jump out of the dark...

I remember sitting next to a 4 year old boy on this ride...he did nothing but cry...scream and beg his father to get him off the ride. It was pretty distressing seeing him like that.

My son is goofy.
At 3 yrs old he requested to ride this ride. He was tall enough so I told him about the ride (something I suggest telling your kids if this is their first time) anyway, he still wanted to go on it. He LOVED it!!!!!! He went on it 3x during that trip.

Fast forward to this pass summer when he was 4, he refused to go on the Dinosaur ride! I asked him why because he loved it last time. He told me it was too bumpy for him now & he doesn't like the dinosaurs popping out at him!
So my son used to love it when he was younger & currently doesn't.

But he LOVES the Haunted Mansion to pieces!!!!!!! So you just never know.

BTW---he now says he will ride the Dinosaur next time we go back to WDW, which won't be until 2006!
So maybe it was just a 4 yrs old phase he was going through at that time...who knows!

Kids are baffling creatures for sure! My son was very daring as a toddler and would do anything that he was tall enough for (basically the rides without height restrictions, like Haunted Mansion, Snow White, etc). We then went to Universal when he was 3yo and he was scared by many things. Didn't like Spiderman because he thought he was falling, any simulator, ET (even though he'd been on it when he was a toddler), etc. He did think that Jaws was funny, though.

Then we went back a year later and he liked everything. I also brought him to WDW in that same time frame and he liked everything that he was tall enough for, except for not wanting to do Dinosaur antoher time (did Tower of Terror 5 times with me).

We'll see what he enjoys and is scared by this next visit, when he's almost 5yo. He'll be tall enough for a few more rides and is hopefully still daring.

We make the CM's laugh. My now 5 DS LOVES this ride while the rest of us tolerate it (except DS 9 who won't ride). They measured him every time last Feb (he was 4) but he always made it (he also made it in at 3 1/2). He insisted on riding twice so they'd measure and say - Yep he makes it and we'd (me and my sis) groan. Here we go again!! This year it's DH's turn to take him while I sit out with older DS

Personally, I'd say only you know your kids. If you're traveling with anyone else, I'd grab a FP for Dinosaur, ride it solo once to judge, and only *then* decide if it's too intense for your kids.

I know the first time I went on it (23 at the time) I was scared stiff. Now it's a favorite.
