Is Dinosaur really rough or is it me?

After many, many park visits my wife and I finally checked out Dinosaur at AK this past weekend. For years we never thought about riding it because we had a little one, but this trip she wanted to scope it out to see if it may be something to add to future trips with the kiddo.

We were seated in the rear of the ride vehicle and I have to say, that was the roughest ride I think I have ever been on. I was trying to keep myself flying over and hitting the person setting next to me and really didn't get to see much of the ride itself. I think I would have rather ridden Primeval Whirl 10 times straight.

I was a little disappointed that I was able to stay on the ride for 8 seconds and didn't get a belt buckle for it.

Does your seat location make any difference in the ride?

It did for me. We did the AK after hours event and got to ride in the front, whole vehicle to ourselves. The ride was still bumpy, but less so than being in the rear, and I could actually see what was going on. I have bad motion sickness, but I was able to have no ill effects by sitting in the front.

Dinosaur is my favorite ride at AK, so I don’t see anything wrong with it. However, last year our friends came to Disney for the first time with us, and their 11 year old DD said the same thing that you did, that she felt like she was going to fall out of the ride!!! She actually said she’d rather Everest to Dinosaur any day, which I got a kick out of!! For some reason, we seem to end up in the front row every time we ride Dinosaur, but I do not feel that it’s that violent where I would fly out of the vehicle. I personally think the jerkiness of the ride makes it more exciting! Maybe try again and ask for the front row?

It IS rough, and the back is worse than the front. I have a bad back so I don't ride it frequently. Several years ago we had a chat with a CM who said if I do ride I should request the front because it is not as jerky, and I think that is accurate.

I love the ride, but I remember reading a few years ago [2013] where a grandmother and her grandson found a loaded pistol in one of the seats when they got on it. A previous rider had it in his pocket and didn't even realize it had fallen out. The gun owner said the ride was bumpy and must have slipped out of his back pocket. o_O

Dinosaur is rough (by the way I couldn't disagree more that RnR is rough, as coasters go it's smooth as can be), but it's supposed to be. It's supposed to rock you around like crazy, that's the point. I have found it helps if you put your arm out and hold the metal bar in front of you. But no matter what, it will bounce you around a good bit.

Yes, rough. Agreed.

My daughter refuses to ride it and she rides everything at WDW. And she likes dinosaurs, so its a rather strange request from her every time we travel to WDW: please no Dinosaur ride. So we just stay away.

Yep, it is rough and yep, front is easier. We rode it for the first time in years last week. My son has nerve damage in his spine and can't ride the rough rides but we had already risked it with EE so he said let's go for it. He said it didn't hurt him as bad as EE because it was more side to side instead of front to back but we won't be riding it or EE again. Well, he won't be. I might ride Dino again but no EE.

It's rough but fun. I'll probably ride it for a couple more years and then I'll be done. I will admit in past trips we have road it numerous times since our youngest kid loves it but I am starting to realize my age is creeping up on me.

I love it but it’s the toughest ride in Disney world.

Just as an aside - we got evacuated once which was interesting but where we got stuck was pretty bad. The ride stopped, all lights were out - like pitch black - and the car continued to shake violently! It was probably just a couple of minutes but it seemed like an eternity before the shaking stopped.

So anyway, that was a ride with some extra jerk.

It is rough. I didn't realize how rough until I heard the girls planning fast passes and noticed they had marked that ride as no fast pass because we won't ride it again.

The state my back is in I have to start passing on this ride unfortunately, it is very rough. Haven't been able to go on Space Mountain either :(

The jerkiness doesn't bother me really, but this(and Indiana Jones) is one of the few rides when I reach out and hold the hand grips tightly. When doing that and bracing with my feet Im able to stay in my seat fairly well.

My husband was one and done. He has back issues and says it was way to jerky for him. The bouncing around didn't really bother me or our daughter. Although she did say she felt like she was going to fly out of her seat a few times.
