I have reservations at Pop Century (2 adults) with a AAA discount for 4/23-4/26 for $281.00. I read about the meal plan and decided it might be worth it, so I called Disney and they said I had to call AAA. AAA quoted me $867.90 for 3 nights at the Pop Century, 2 day hoppers and the dining plan :confused3 I was shocked. I priced it individually at $684.67. Am I missing something? How can it be $200 more??

can't really figure it since i don't know how many but last i looked itwas 39 per adult per day...did they quote you the right passes or are you sure you had the right season rates? and are you sure you got a aaa special rate ..they only have so many so maybe they were gone? i know some rates don't go back in the system( or at least didn't ie if you canceled a ap rate, it didn't go back in for a spot for someone else, it was just gone (or so i was told by a cm making the ressie) is it for this yr? if not it might be going up next yr.

sorry, don't knw where i got 39 :confused3 but at least i figured it wrong to much than not enough  ( that's $70 more for "goodies" not on plan)

I was quoted at $37.99 just this morning by a CM...I was making reservations for the Crystal Palace! :cool1:

straight from the Mouse's Mouth!!! :rotfl:

Perhaps the room rate itself went up now so late in the game.

$37.77 for adults and $10.99 for children.

Your original room category is most likely now a higher rate or unavailable with the AAA discount. If you had made the arangements with CRO they would have been able to just add dining to your reservation. Becasue you booked through AAA you have to have them make the adjustments and they may have to cancel and rebook at the now higher rate. I think 2 day passes with the hopper option through disney as a package are more expensive than 2 day hoppers through AAA or a ticket broker as well.

It's coming out to $917 on Disney.com with dining and 680 without.

I think that what is probably happening is your room rate is going WAY up.

The two day adult park hoppers are pricing at $87 each... As you can see Disney is pricing the meal package at about $227 total (which equals the $37.99 x 3 x 2) So the problem is that with changing it this late you aren't really getting near the discount you did on the room and are paying rack rate.

Have you made sure that when you compare costs that one does not include tax while the other does?

Are the rooms the same in both scenarios (e.g. one is not a preferred room while the other is)?

Just a question in general, does the guest have to pay rack rate or is the AAA discount applied when purchasing the Dining Package?

Only a AAA TA can add dining to a AAA discounted room and there is a limited number of AAA discounted rooms that can have dining.

You might call back and see if you can get your room discount and dining at one of the other value resorts.

Not sure how you priced the room when you got the $684.67 but if you purchase the meal plan you pay Rack Rate for the room, no discount.

A AAA TA, not Disney and not a Disney TA, can add dining to a AAA discounted room but there are limits on how many rooms are available.

FREE dining requires rack rate.

Here's the problem:
Disney holds X number or rooms for AAA room only discount
and
Disney holds X number or rooms for AAA package deals

You were booked room only and wanted to switch to a package.
The X rooms for the AAA package rate are probably sold out and instead of telling you there were no rooms available they quoted you what was there (ie. the non discounted room) That would most likely account for your large price difference.

Hope that helps!

OK, thanks for all the input.

I just booked the room with the AAA discount through a Disney CM only about 2 weeks ago.
So I lose the AAA room only discount and presumably there are no AAA package discounts available?

Strange, I thought I could save money by adding the dining because dh and I like going to TS restaurants, but it's a not going to work that way :rolleyes2

The AAA rate is available for your dates, I plugged in your dates and it says this : "AAA Magic Moments- The AAA Magic Moments rate is available for the date and package you selected." That $867 does include the AAA discount.

The dining is $228

Your 2 day hoppers are $351.48

So that leaves $287 for your room, so you are paying around $95 a night with tax.

I think you're all missing what's really going on here.

The thing that's driving up the price so much when you convert to the package is the 2-day hoppers, not the dining.

You're still getting the AAA discount on your room. The problem is that adding two 2-day MYW tickets with park hopping costs a fortune. The cost of a 2-day MYW ticket with park hopping is $175.73. For two adults, that's $351.46.

That's where the cost of this package is located. If you take your original AAA room rate of $281 and add it to the cost of the tickets, $351, you get $632. Subtracting $632 from the $868 gives you $236 for dining for two adults for three days. That comes out to $39.34, pretty much exactly what it's supposed to be (with tax). So, you're still getting your AAA discount on the room, you're still getting dining for $40/person per day, just like you're supposed to. But you're adding $350 worth of park tickets.

The bottom line here is that 2-day MYW tickets with park hopping are insanely expensive. The reason for this is that the base tickets for short stays are about $60 per day, and then you add a flat $42.60 to add park hopping, no matter how long the ticket. As a result, the 1, 2, and 3 day tickets, if you want park hopping, end up costing upwards of $80 or $90 a day.

Someone says above in this thread that they price 2-day park hopper tickets at $87. Not sure where that comes from, but if you can find that, hop on it. I think that's actually PER DAY. That's less than a 2-day park hopper at disneyLAND, so I'm not sure where you can find that.

The guest does pay rack rate when adding the disney dining plan.

Not true. Well, true if you're going during the free dining promotion, but otherwise not true. The AAA packages are based upon the given AAA room discount for the level of resort and the disney determined "season" -- regular, value, etc. You will pay full price for the dining plan and park admission, but the hotel portion is discounted (as long as there is availability -- the number of rooms at the AAA rate are limited).

In our case, we're staying at the WL in August. We received the AAA discount of 15% off rack rate for the room, and paid for our tickets and dining plan. If we wanted the free dining for the portion of our stay which overlapped that promotion, we would have to make a second reservation, purchase at least one additional day's admission, and give up our standard AAA room discount for those dates. Additionally, we would have had to check out and check back in, with no guarantees that we could keep the same room...

Thank you.

I see what happened. I miscalculated 2 park hoppers :guilty: So I should go for the package.
