Is different use years too complicated?

Long time DVC owner--since 2002--planning to add on at AKV.

I'm wondering if I should wait for a contract with my use year of December.

Is it too complicated to have different use years?

You actually should have a relatively easy time finding a Dec UY at AKV - they sold lots more of them than other UY's. I'd recommend it if possible but if not it's really not that complicated. But it adds a bit more work that unless there's a good reason to do it you might as well stay with the same.

We bought our resale based on changes to our vacationing time periods and the price of the resale.
It was a different UY and is not an issue for me to manage. Just get a spreadsheet together that you understand, track those items (new member number, how many points left to use each UY, etc) that are important to you, and what I find most important is planning for future trips and pulling points from the right contact/member number.
You will have two different DVC member numbers but can only use one MDE account. You will have to manually enter ever reservation from the new membership into MDE to make FP+, etc reservations.

Different use years can be a pain if you plan to combine the points from them to book a vacation. You'll need to call MS to do it.

It's just simpler to manage if all your contracts are the same use year and titled exactly the same so that they can behave as though they are one big contract. This is the best arrangement if you need or want to book online, too.

Different memberships (and different use years always mean different memberships) behave as though they belong to two different people. They work best if you don't plan to use them together. For example, you always stay at BCV in October for F&W and at the VWL in early December. You only use your BCV contract for the BCV stays and only use the VWL contract for the December stays. (Both require 11 month booking to be sure of getting exactly what you want).

IMO, it will be worth waiting for a December use year to match the one you already have. Good luck!

I learned recently that (IMO) the biggest benefit to multiple use years is multiple wait lists-- each one gets two. The only other I could think of is mentioned above-- if you travel regularly at two different times of the year, having your banking deadlines and cancellation periods work effectively.

Each UY takes a certain amount of work to manage and keep track of, two UY's takes double the work. If you don't have a reason to have more than one UY, then why add the extra work?
