Is DDP just flawed?

Miss Manners is my go-to source for matters of etiquette, especially as it relates to the social compact. And, she has a suggestion for how much to tip at a restaurant of any kind, which I find helpful.

Of course, that's only a suggestion, and you should do what you think is right. However, you should not expect others to agree with you.

I plan on bringing my 2 college aged children to Ohana's for dinner and we will have the ddp. We will all get an alcoholic beverage as well. Even though the bill will be "covered" under the ddp the bill will still be close to $300. I am a very fair tipper but last time we were there, we were done eating in around an hour. I will find it very hard to leave a server a $60 tip. Of course, I will leave a very nice tip but don't think it will be $60. Last time we were there the server was at our table around 5 times for a minute or two, dropping food off.
Easy solution, don’t have the meal last a shorter amount of time than you would like. Tell the server to slow down or tell them you want to pace yourself. Ask for extra food too if you want.

I do agree with you though that the tipping amount if really inflated at Disney because of the high prices. If the waiter doesn’t provide good service bring it up to a manager. Plus Disney treats the tipping percentage the same among all places such as buffet and actual table service sit down.

Also the price will exceed $300 lol, (65*4)=$270 plus average drink is $17ish bucks so yea lol.

And before you even arrived, they made sure your table was prepped and looked nice. Then after you ordered your food, they had to pick it up, carry it all the way across the dining room. Before they did that they made sure that what was on the plate is what you ordered. They looked at your table from afar to see if your drinks needed refilled.

Keep in mind they are taking care of you even when they are not in front of you. They don’t need to hover.

If you can’t or won’t tip the recommended amount then you shouldn’t be dining out.

Just curious, what to you is a nice tip percentage that you are claiming you will leave?
At O’hana everyone gets the same food pretty much. So there isn’t really any ordering and they do try to have people go super fast. Also each waiter has an assistant waiter.
There are cases were things change cause of dietary needs though.

Yes, I understand this. They do ask if you want everything. You can also take something off and get a double of something else. In this case or with an allergy like you said, they have to check. I am just saying that it isn’t as if they aren’t working. You have a good point about the assistant waiter. They needed tipped out so something to consider if shortening a tip quite a bit.

they aren’t doing as much as let’s say at California grille or some of the menu oriented restaurants. But than again same thing can be said for the buffets. I think the whole tipping system we have in the USA sucks tbh.

They are working through. Either way I normally have at least 6 people at my table so forced into the 18%

I have to disagree unless they added alot of TS restaurants. It's actually very few.
I guess I’m just lucky picking TS restaurants. This trip we have Boma, Diamond Horseshoe and Biergarten all of which have Disney Visa discounts.
