Is DCL changing their logo?

Thought I had seen that on some items in the gift shops before but never on clothing. Don't see anything about it that would make a non DCL cruiser say - Aah Disney.

I doubt that this is the new DCL logo. Several of the 2017 items have the traditional logo and they are called the logo. The other design is called a dcl icon which is the same description they give the anchor with mouse ears design. My guess is that it is just a design. :-)

Im not sure if they're changing but that said this maybe new logo is classy but not Disney like imho. Whoever earlier said that is doesnt give that same Disney feel is definitely right imho. The current logo is so beautiful and Disney like. I really hope they don't change it.

It's a fine logo but have to agree with others, it isn't Disney. I can't imagine this is replacing the current logo, perhaps supplementing but not replacing. The current logo is instantly recognizable, even those who have never seen it would say "Oh, must be Disney Cruise Line." And the ships are covered in Disney pictures and symbols, why would the logo, the centerpiece of a brand, suddenly drop everything Disney about it?

I do like the look but, I am one of those people that doesn't mind advertising 'Look, I've been on a Disney cruise'. :D
So I would want a little something that would at least give a hint of DCL in the logo. But if they are going for the people that like to cruise but don't want to advertise DCL, this definitely works!!!!

Showed it to my 12 yo 'Disney tolerant' son and asked him what he thought: "Meh"

There you have it. :lmao:

Note that the label still has the DCL Mickey head logo. Maybe it's a secondary mark and not a logo change.

i wast thinking along the same lines...sort of giving them a second logo so everyone who has all the original logo stuff will start buying more with this one.

I bought a fleece pullover in January on the Magic and it has this logo on it in silver. I'm not a Mickey ears fan so it really appealed to me.

I love this thread. Just yesterday I listened to a 99% Invisible podcast about logos and how no one used to care about logos but these days the introduction of a new logo is like a "blood sport" and everyone has an opinion. Companies even "float" new logo ideas and will pull them back if there is negative feedback. If that is what DCL is doing here, it will be interesting to see whether or not they change course if they receive a slew of angry emails.

I never even noticed the anchor icon before, but now that you mention it, I do see it om items at Disney Store. Here is a sample

BTW, I loathe tattoos, but for some time now I have thought, if I had to have one it would be the (classic) DCL logo.

I know, I'm pathetic...

I saw that stuff while on the Magic last month. It definitely just seemed like a special collection of "classier" items for adults who didn't want stuff with mickey all over it, not a permanent change.

I like it. It's a bit Art Deco and makes me think of movies with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (not sure why but it makes me think of the one movie where he's walking the dog on deck); very attractive but I still want them to keep the original.

Your post gives me a flash back to when so many people in Buffalo tuned into their radios and televisions to see the unveiling of the new Buffalo Sabres logo... it was awful and people hated it but we kept it for about 10 years... we ultimately went back to the classic original logo and now all appreciate it more now

This new logo is sleak and cool and I like it but it isn't Disney... can totally appreciate PP's post about not wanting a Mickey item but wanting to buy apparel that reminds him of DCL so makes sense from a marketing standpoint... I can tolerate it and understand it but hope it doesn't replace the original DCL log (which is a fantastic logo).... on a side note, I am curious what the 3 means in the waves now... I wouldn't have really read into the 3 on the waves had it not been for this logo, curious now if the 3 is significant
