Is CSR really that bad?

I've stayed there 4 times and loved it. We're trying CBR this year for a change but I wouldn't hesitate going back to CSR. I think CSR is beautiful and has the best bus system of the mods. Great pools, including the quiet pools.

We just stayed there last week and LOVED it! It was so beautiful and peaceful. The pool was a lot of fun. My son gets to pick where we stay next year when we go for his birthday and he wants to stay there. I would definitely recommend this resort.

I don't really trust reviews, you never know what you're going to like until you've experienced it yourself.

I totally agree. Since the OP asked for opinions of others who have stayed at Coronado Springs, I can say that for my husband and I, at the time we stayed there, we were in our late 40s/early 50s and we enjoyed the resort. See, for us, we didn't want or need to be right next to the buses, convention center, main pool, food court. We wanted a quiet stay and got it. We also liked that we could, if we wanted, walk all the way around the lake for an evening stroll. The only aspect that didn't quite set with me at first was seeing the conventioneers walking or rushing around with their meeting name tags or badges stuck to their clothing. But then it didn't bother me anymore because I figured, I'm on vacation, they are working and looking kind of stupid as they are rushing around.

I've stayed there twice, including just this past June, and I really like the resort. There was no convention there during my last trip but staying in a convention resort never really bothered me. My only complaint is that there really isn't a good sit down restaurant at CSR but I would stay there again without question.

We've stayed at all the mods, and CSR would be our second favorite after POR. POR and CSR are pretty close for us, but we much prefer the food options/food court at POR. The pool at CSR is the best, and transportation was always great there as well. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Thank you for all the feedback.

I do trust here more, however my first instinct is to check reviews and I was just shocked by how low it was.
I figured people didn't like it due to be a convention place, which doesn't bother me.
We watched a few videos on the resort on Youtube, and really like how cute it look and grown up it seemed.

We have only stated at the Pop before, and its okay, but loud, childish and kitchy. Which has merits, however, we wanted to try something else.

We have been having a hard time deciding where to stay. We know on this adult only trip we don't want to the POP, and we can't afford to do deluxe, even with the assumed discounts for next August. And the Canadian Dollar is so bad, that buy USD is an additional 30% right now...
So we boiled it down to PoFQ and CSR.

I appreciate all of your comments.

I just went ahead and booked a king room for our August adventure 25-Sept 4th 2016! 3950 USD, right now is 5349 CND.

Fingers crossed for that "free dining". Woo hoo!

Thank you all Dis Friends!

We have stayed at all the moderates now and CSR is the one we go back to constantly. Love the resort, we actually like Pepper Market, never had bad food there, bus service is great, and it is beautiful. I always laugh at reviews because while one person loved it, another hates it. Some of our favorite restaurants, in fact, are this way. You are on Disney property, how can you go wrong? I don't think it is a resort I would take little kids too, but is a great resort for older kids/Adults! Have a great time.

DH & I stayed at CSR in May and loved it! The theming is well done and the restaurants are all delicious. Bus service was great too. I don't know what people were saying on Trip Advisor, but this Disney fan loves CSR! :tinker:

I stayed in CSR in 2012 and really enjoyed it. I liked it so much so that I'll be back in September! I think the convention center skews the ratings a bit because some families don't like to deal with all the business people and some business people are used to different type (ie Non-Disney) of hotels. The ONLY thing that bothered me about CSR when I was there was that the conventioneers tended to gather and smoke in common areas that you couldn't really avoid if you wanted to go outside, particularly right outside El Centro. Other than that, the experience was really great! Also, the conventions don't take place 365 days a year, so even if there is one during your stay, chances are you'll still get a few non-convention days while you're there. Actually, the resort has some more nice amenities than other moderates (like a gym!) because of the business travelers it has to cater to. The theming was great, so colorful and charming.

I was there for a convention in June...first time staying there. I had read some negative reviews beforehand as well, and went with the mindset that if its not great, it's still disney and wasn't on my dime! However, I was very impressed with everything I experienced . Every CM, and I mean EVERY one I encountered went out of his/her way to say him have a nice day, or asked if I needed anything. I loved the relaxing non-disney feel it could have as you strolled the beautiful grounds. Our rooms were SILENT! And I've always had issues with loud neighbors, kids running up and down the halls, and flushing toilets. Was impressed with the variety of food offerings at the Pepper Market and the little coffe/ice cream/snack shop. When I was there, I kept thinking I couldn't wait to have my family try this place. And now they will as we are going for a quick MNSSHP trip in Oct.

I guess I'll be finding out in a few weeks.
I just saw that POFQ is considered 7th, and I really didn't enjoy staying there at all, so obviously the reviews don't reflect my opinion anyway, so I think I'll risk it.

If you click on a particular group of reviewers you'll see that it's the business related and solo travelers that pull the ranking down. I expect that since many of them spend half their lives in hotels they're looking for different things than families traveling on vacation.
Good observation - I have been to WDW for multiple family vacations and once for a conference. For the conference we stayed at CSR and compared to other hotels we had stayed at for the same conference - the rooms at CSR were not at the same level as other "city" and "resort" hotels. On the WDW scale - when taking into the transportation, EMH, theme, etc. - CSR is great. You also have to factor in people like me who are there without their families and would rather be there with their family than spending their time in stuffy conference rooms! That already tips the scale to the negative side… (even if they enjoy their work - to me WDW is a place to go WITH my family and not for work)

I just stayed there in May. It is big. But it is also beautiful, especially if you like the Southwestern look. Got lost trying to find my room. But I did find it and it was right by a bus stop and the big pool which I didn't have time to go to. the room was also dead quiet. I didn't eat at their food court but I went to the bar for a martini, that was nice except they won't take TIW at their bar. I had breakfast as Las Ventanas and it was very good. The bar area is open during the day to sit in but they're not serving. Nice place to wait for your DME time.

Don't know it gets so much negative feedback. CSR is gorgeous and we are staying there on our upcoming trip.

How can you go wrong? I agree, you can't its DISNEY! I just wanted to make sure it was good.
Thank you.

You had me at Martini! I don't know what TIW means?

We are huge fans of CSR and it is one of the best bargains on property. I call it deluxe light as the you get the same bath products as the deluxes, and also there is a fitness center. I really wanted to stay there on our next trip but it wasn't available. We prefer it over the price over the deluxe resorts.

FAVORITE resort at Disney!!! It's the deluxe of the moderates and they consistently add more pluses like when they added Business Class, then more Table Service etc.

Always a great stay and would be my first choice every trip. Plenty of stays and zero awareness of any conventions ... other than less people at pools (aka plenty of loungers/chairs), rarely a full bus and less children in the restaurants. Themed pool one of the best with everything from counter service to mug refill station right at the pool. Some of the best transportation on site and centrally located so no ride is long.

Right now rehabbing spa/salon/fitness center and soon the room renovations will begin. Can't wait to go back after they are done.

PS TIW is Tables in Wonderland, 20% Discount card available to AP, FL Resident and DVC members.

Thank you for explaining the TIW. Yeah I don't think I could swing AP, we live West Coast Canada... possibly DVC one day! When we were in DL in 2012 the DVC took us to the room to talk about DVC. Its always about the money... LOL! Cheers.

Do not listen to reviews on Travelocity. Come here to the DIS, or other Disney fan sites to see what the REAL Disney fans think. I'm betting a lot of CSR Travelocity reviews are from conventioners "stuck" at Disney who don't even want to be there, and who go on and on about how they could get some five star super amazing "real hotel" for less.

This!

CSR was our first WDW resort stay and we loved it.

I love the theming, grounds, and overall ambiance of the resort. Also has a really good pool and hot tub area. And it's very centrally located in WDW with relatively good bus service.

IMO, its biggest negative is that it's very spread out. Another potential negative is that, as a convention resort, you see a lot of people there on business, which for some, detracts from the Disney magic. The flipside of that is that most of those conventioners are not using the buses to go to parks, which makes the buses relatively less crowded than at other resorts.

I can't say anything about the restaurants (quick or table service) because we never went to either.

Like a lot of people said, it's all about what you prefer. The CSR rooms are beautiful but I did not care for it because it is large and the bus system was one of the worst I've encountered...long waits and even longer with the multiple stops. I don't think I would ever choose to stay there again.

I prefer POFQ out of all the moderates because of it's size and central bus stop.
