Is Coronavirus affecting your travel plans?

What ? Why? I can't even begin to imagine the necessity??
Coronavirus hysteria. The practicality of caring for them and letting them out when under quarantine probably played a factor, too. (I also saw footage of people lowering pets down by their necks off of balconies to toilet then pulling them back up the same way.) Maybe issues with obtaining food, who knows.

I honestly could have been perfectly happy not knowing that...

*not saying anything against you personally but yeah..some things are yeah..
Same here, and I'm sorry if that upset anyone. But I don't see why it shouldn't be discussed, especially if pets are now being diagnosed. Admittedly it is a gruesome, sad subject, but I think it speaks to the desperation that humans in these types of extreme circumstances can experience.

No I get it...maybe a spoiler tag? I'm all for scrolling past things I just didn't have the opportunity to do that before reading what I would have scrolled past YKWIM

My sister and her family were going on vacation in Spain and Portugal, and they canceled their trip. They were mostly worried about getting quarantined somewhere.

When were they planned to go? We are supposed to go next month, but likely canceling for the same reason. We don't want to get stuck outside the country, sick or quarantined in a foreign country, etc.

Ask the dog. It’s in quarantine.

Fun Fact time:

Cats and dogs actually already have their own version of coronavirus. It's also respiratory in nature and most animals get over it quickly. No you can't catch it from your cat. :)
Sad bit of info, a very, very small percentage of cats will have the virus mutate into something called FIP after a while, which is very deadly and very sad.

Also, this story about the dog is a bit older and it's not exactly true -

I cannot even imagine.... I would shut my pet into the bathroom until it "went" and then clean it up. No need to strangle the poor animals!!

Maybe food is a concern, and that's valid...
although I'd easily give up some of my own food for my pets.

I feel the same! But idk if they had a choice. It may have been others doing it to their pets, we just don't know. Weren't there police officers taking PEOPLE away from their families at one point? Maybe it got really crazy and neighbors squealed on neighbors believing that animals were responsible for the crisis. So many potentials...

Real talk:
How stupid would I be if I booked a refundable trip to Tokyo in July?
Assuming the Corona thing is over by then, I'd get one cheap vacation.
I doubt it will be, but as long as everything is open, I'm okay with going.
If you can find a cheap refundable trip you have nothing to lose if you can deal with their summer weather.

This. I’m a vet. Coronaviruses are common in dogs and cats.

I realize this is probably really dumb but I am ok with that. I have seen a lot of people buying A LOT of water. Our Costco had a limit of 5 per customer, our one grocery store already sold out once this week of bottled water.
My question is - why? I understand getting things to stock up in the event that you need to quarantine, stay home etc - but - is the water we already have coming out of the faucet getting filtered, going somewhere? Am I missing some connection to water that would lead to it being contaminated in some way? I have seen runs on water when we're about to get bad winter storms because there's a concern about loss of power/electricity. Why is everyone buying water for Coronovirus preparedness? I'm convinced I just don't understand something enough to have made the connection but I'm refusing to buy some just because I see other people buying it in GALLONS. Help me understand?

Yeah-the water thing has me scratching my head as well.

No understanding.. Just silly. Just people panicking and not knowing what to do. So they act like they're doomsday prepping,or for a hurricane.

We did the two weeks worth of food but NOT water. Viruses aren't really good at stopping the water supply.

same here - I just couldn’t bring myself to buy the water because I would have literally been doing it because other people were doing it. 12 boxes of pasta? Yes. Beans? Sure. Water? Ehhhh
No.

I think some people are just running over to the CDC website and reading their emergency preparedness pages and w/o absorbing all the info, making a shopping list. Or their water source is unreliable. Or the household resident(s) normally drink bottled water because they're worried about the source or delivery method of local water.
So many possibilities and I'm sure I haven't covered them all.

I'm fine with my local water but in a nearby city (Newark, NJ) lead leaching from old water supply pipes caused a shutdown of part of the city's water. Could happen here too but hasn't so far. Happened in Flint, Michigan too which I'm sure we all heard about.
