Is Chef Mickeys even edible anymore?

I have a breakfast reservation for Chef Mickeys next month. Ive read a few bad reviews, but figured how bad can it really be for breakfast? All I need is some juice, a little fruit and a muffin/danish or something.

In the past week, I have read really horrendous reviews. Im not understanding exactly what is so awful about it. The eggs? I can easily skip the eggs. Is it every item on the buffet?

I really want to go since I havent in years and probably wont be back to WDW for a while. Id love to get some more photos with the characters and my daughter before she is too old to want to get her picture taken! It make such nice memories! But, now Im worried it will just be the most horrible experience ever! Should I try to switch to 1900 PF? I love it there, but we've been every time during our past 5 trips.

Actually ate there for brunch this past Monday I didn't have high expectations as I have read several bad reviews also, I ate mostly breakfast items and was pleasantly surprised as was our entire party of five and was surprised at how much time each character spent with my 18 month granddaughter

Was it ever edible? Honest question.

I'd go to Tusker House, Garden Grill or really anywhere else first. But Chefs for breakfast won't kill you. It's dirty, gross and the food is iffy, but it's much better then other meals there. If you want the pictures, then take the leap.

Great to hear! Thanks

I think it was, though I havent been since about 2008. Was it the best food on the planet? No, but I was not expecting gourmet. There were plenty of things Id eat that tasted fine.

What is dirty? The tables, floors, buffet station?

I already have a TH and GG reservation, as well as CP, Cape May, Ohana, H& V, and Akershus. Im really giving up my usual 1900 to go to Chef Mickeys again. I love the classic characters!

I found a lot of people at the buffet using their hands instead of tongs (:E), so the buffet was a bit suspect. There's also the napkin waving which sprays crumbs all over other diners.

I went in thinking the food would be horrible, and only found it only bad. That's not exactly a glowing recomadation, but... You're in Disney. Sometimes the experience is the most important thing. You can grab food later if you hate it, and if you don't, hey, breakfast!!

I would go to Cape May. We were pleasantly surprised there for breakfast. Super nice and attentive waitressss. Also the character interaction was excellent. Only downside is it's not the easiest to get there.

We are staying at YC and already have a Cape May reservation. I love it there too. I'm doing a bunch more character breakfast too. We have been going to 1900 Park Fare often lately, so this trip decided to switch it up and go to Chef Mickeys since we havent been there for close to 10 years. But now Im not sure. If the worst thing that will happen is I get some crumbs on me from the swinging napkins, I think Ill be OK! I just dont want food poisoning to ruin my trip!! The way people have been reviewing this place lately has me questioning how my stomach will feel after eating. I dont really care about all the food not being tasty as long as there is one or 2 things edible that will hold me over until lunch, or at least the first ice cream stand I see :)

I truly don't understand the hate for Chef Mickey's. Went last September with my 13-member family group. Everybody enjoyed it. I didn't notice anything that made me think it's dirty.
It's not gourmet, but it was perfectly fine.
Of course I am definitely not a foodie, either.

It is definitely not my favorite, and would skip it if I could convince the kids, but they insist on Chef Mickeys every trip. They love the atmosphere, and there is definitely something special about watching the monorail go by. While I prefer Ohana or Cape May, both of which we are doing as well, I can find enough to eat, and unlike others I never really found it dirty. I just think it is loud, the choices are limited, and the character interaction is more rushed than other options.

One who has a different thought than you can also say, "I don't understand how someone don't hate Chef Mickey." It's your opinion and you and the other 12 in your family enjoyed it. As for my broad of 8, not a single one of us enjoyed the noisy, sloppy, poorly maintained, less than average quality food and terrible service for breakfast. I'm not trying to flame you or be snarky, it's just opinion. We all have them and my opinion just happens to be that CM is perhaps the worst buffet I have ever experienced anywhere in the "World" and outside of it as well. But with that said, I am not a buffet fan at all and do call myself a foodie.

We went last September it was our first chef Mickey experience and I'm not sure we would head back any time soon. The food wasn't great we felt rushed. It just wasn't a magical experience for us.

But back to the question of the food it was pretty standard buffet but there are definitely better places to be eating in my opinion.

We ate breakfast there in November and it was fine. I never expect buffets to be gourmet. The food area was clean, our table was clean, and we were not rushed. We all found plenty to eat and were satisfied. The pastry section was very good.

Yes it was loud, but my kids loved the atmosphere. They play fun music and the characters dance around. Each character visited our table and we got great pictures.

We also ate at tusker house and found the food great and the atmosphere more laid back. They were both fun experiences for us. I would eat breakfast at chef Mickey's again.

For some reason these boards always bash chef mickey's. Its not gourmet food but it's a fine breakfast. Lots of fun too.

Again opinion. Mine and others say it makes Golden Coral seem like a gourmet meal and is not a fine meal. Your opinion likes it. Are they who bash wrong? No. Are those who like it wrong? No. The truth of the matter is some will bash it (like me), some will love it, and some will find it somewhere in the middle and fine (like you). I myself like Crystal Palace, Boma, Tusker House and The Wave much better for a breakfast buffet. Perhaps one of these I mentioned you may dislike. :goodvibes

I had no issues with breakfast there. As for the eggs, I hate all scrambled eggs in buffets, so I asked the waitress for an omelette (i don't think there was a station, or else I would have just done that myself) and she gladly had one made and brought to me. It was cooked perfectly and very good :)

We went for lunch last year and I thought it was OK. I went into it knowing the food wouldn't be gourmet and I shouldn't judge it against then price because it would never measure up to what we paid. It held up against those expectations and we really had a great time.

My family also likes it. It is a loud chaotic character meal. The food is always decent. WE find it a fun way to begin our trip.

I can really only speak to our experience, but we actually were pleasantly surprised at our breakfast reservation earlier this month. I went in not expecting much, really just doing it for the character interaction. But, They had a good selection of food, it all was fresh and pretty tasty, and it seemed a lot cleaner than most buffets I've been too. My issue was really how rushed it felt with the characters. They would come and go, and since it was just my husband, 2 year old and I, it was hard to know when to hit the buffet so one of us didn't miss it. Our waiter also had issues with the dining plan and would disappear for long periods of time. But they were really minor inconveniences, and we really enjoyed it.

We are also staying at YC for the first time in a few weeks! We also have a Cape May breakfast booked, but tempted to drop it (since we did it last trip 4 years ago) and book Captain's Grille for breakfast instead. My daughter is 12 and is fine with skipping a character breakfast this time. Any thoughts on that plan?

The last time we ate at Chef Mickey's (only been for breakfast) was 2009. It was for a late breakfast on our very last day. The food was OK. It was edible. Mickey Waffles, Bagels, Cereal etc. Nothing to mess up. However, we felt very rushed and the character interaction didn't compare to other places. Very rushed and not the same as other places. However, for breakfast we stuck to bagels, waffles and other things that are safe. Hope that helps!
