Is Chef Mickey's all that?

We are staying at the BLT in November and figure this would be a great time for us to take our two DDs (3 and 1) to Chef Mickey's for the character breakfast. I have read that it is one of the best character meals. Is this true?

From most reports, for character interaction it is one of the best. The food appears to be only mediocre (it's a typical buffet). Go for the characters, not for the food.

Eh, it is enjoyable, but I honestly believe that it's only so popular because Mickey is there. If they got rid of the mice it wouldn't be so crowded. the food is good....not amazing by any means.
I would say though if you've never gone it may be worth going. You're children will love it.

The food is not bad. It's not fantastic but it's not bad, kwim? It didn't seem better or worse than your average breakfast buffet.

We went for the characters and were happy we did. The kids loved it.

That said, we probably won't go back for awhile. Not because of anything negative there...it's just that we want to try different places. There are some restaurants that make our MUST VISIT ON EVERY TRIP list but CM isn't one of them.

....and a bag of chips.

Loved it last Aug when my family went for Breakfast. Really good food and great characters. Ties for first place with Crystal Palace and Tusker House as far as I'm concerned.

I should clarify this statement......CM was on that list until we decided to scale back the number of character meals. If we were on the dining plan and not paying out of pocket, CM would probably stay on that list because the characters are all there.

I didn't care for it for dinner. Characters were great, but there wasn't much food variety and the service was not so great either. I'm gonna try breakfast next time.

For us the first time we did CM it went on that list. Then we went back the next year and it has been taken off. I think maybe it's one of those places thats great every couple of trips, kwim?

We love Chef Mickey's breakfast - it's one of our favorites. The food is good - standard breakfast buffet, nothing spectacular, but good nonetheless. A great thing about CM is the characters - you get Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald & Pluto - and we've always had good character interaction there. We also really enjoy the atmosphere there - bright/open, fun/upbeat (characters dance around restaurant as patrons twirl napkins overhead to music), and an occasional monorail passes by overhead which is pretty neat too.

We went for the first time in December (breakfast) and had the first reservation time they offered. We loved it. The characters were great, our service was super, there was ROOM to move (we did Crystal Palace the year before and it was TIGHT), and we enjoyed the food. We didn't feel hurried. The food isn't "special" but typical breakfast fare--well, except the smoked salmon which is not typical at our house. TASTY! Everything we had was fresh and good. We'll definitely go back.:thumbsup2

We went last year, and it was pretty good. I think your two DD's will LOVE :lovestruc it, but the adults will be underwhelmed. The food was OK, and the characters were a bit rushed IMO. If you are staying there I would try to book the earliest time you can. First, it will not be as crowded as when we were there in the 8:30-9:30 time frame. Second, I have read that they sometimes pick children to help "open" the restaurant and it makes for a great photo opp. Not that you will be picked, but being there waiting before they open for the first seating will definitely improve your chances. :thumbsup2

We did CM last year for breakfast and it was fantastic! We will defnitately go back again on our trip in November. Our kids are going to be 2 and 6, so they love the time with Mickey that isn't so crowded.

I liked it, but enjoyed Ohanas charachter breakfast more. We had just as much time with Mickey and no buffet. For me buffets are a pain with little ones. I am always running up to get some one something and can never enjoy the experience myself. Ohanas the food comes to you and I can relax and enjoy the time with my family. Of course there is no Pluto or Donald, but Stitch is alot of fun.

I went with my DS12 last year and we both enjoyed it - got some of the best pics on our whole trip with the characters!

The food is good (we did breakfast) but the main attraction is the character interaction.

We did it a month ago and won't do it again. The food was bad. I couldn't even finish a plate and yet it was my main meal of the day. The character interaction was great, though. But they put us in this area where the ceiling was low and it was darker than the rest of the area. Even our pictures were dark-ish with a flash. It was also cold in there, even with a jacket on.

I prefer CM's for breakfast, however the rest of my family likes dinner there. So, that's what we'll be doing in August. I think the food has gotten close to mediocre lately. We have always eaten at CM's on every trip...kind of a tradition. But, if I had to miss it, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it now.

But...with that being said, I really think it's something that each family should do at least once. It's only one meal, the food isn't going to kill you and you get one on one time with the classic Disney characters. That in itself takes some stress off park touring and trying to see Mickey. It is truly a 'scene' in there..not quiet and relaxing, that's for sure. I would go with the breakfast..the food seems to be better at breakfast than at dinner, but that's just me.

Well..I have to go against the crowd on this one. We had a horrid time there..food was just awful, service was inattentive and Donald skipped us and then gave us attitude when we asked that he visit our table (which we waited forever for). If you check my other posts, you'll see that this is in fact the one place I dislike...everything else in Disney I either love or am ambivalent about (for example...Le Cellier is ok - but I prefer Yachtsman).
I do however LOVE Donalds Safari Breakfast at Tusker House...if you are going to Animal Kingdom, I highly recommend starting your day there before park opening!

This use to be a favorite, but no longer. The food and choices of food have gone down. We took this place off our list many years ago. Chef Mickey's is not the only place that we no longer visit. Dining is high on our list, but have found our list of favorites seem to be shrinking.

My friend just got back and she was so disappointed in CM. She was a huge fan too. I had my sister change her plans based on my friend's experience
