How long of a drive to Cape May Cafe by car and is it worth the drive to get to from Wilderness Lodge?
Are there any comparable places around where we are staying such as Crystal Palace or any other buffet? We also have a reservation for Boma which i know is a buffet of its own. Are they worth the drive or should we just stay put and eat around the Magic Kingdom and deluxe resorts?

I'm interested in this thread.

We love Boma's and would recommend an evening at AKL.

We would like to try Cape May, but keep talking ourselves out of it. Now for our next trip, it's on our list.

We eat at Cape May every trip - In September 2009 we made the mistake of taking the bus to DTD and then waiting for a bus to Beach Club took forever. But we have learned that you just need to take the bus to HS and boat to Beach Club. This is so quick that it is really no problem. We are staying at AKV this September so should take us no time at all to get to Cape May.

We are trying Boma for the first time in September so can't speak to that now, but will let you know

Yes! Both Boma and Cape May are worth the drive! We eat at both EVERY trip.

We've done Boma twice for dinner. And yes, it is worth it. Both times it followed a day at AK so we just took the bus from AK to AKL. Our dinner times were between 6 & 7 pm so for one we returned to the Poly via bus to the MK, then ferry back to the Poly. The second time we were staying at BWI. I booked Boma on an EMH late night in DHS so we got a bus from AKL to DHS, then the boat back to BWI. Once you figure out all the Disney transportation options and the park hours for the dates of your visit it is pretty easy to plan. If you prefer a later dinner then you would want a car or a cab. I would advise against the bus transfer at DTD as did a PP.

This next visit we will be staying at AKL so we'll finally do Boma for breakfast also. That's not so easy to do when staying at another resort and depending on Disney transportation.

I haven't been to Cape May so I can't give an opinion on that.

Haven't tried Cape May yet, but it is on our list next time.

As for Boma, no. We didn't like it. The food was good...just not our tastes. We thought the dishes would be spicey as in hot spicey. They are not, they are sweet like cinnamon sweet. Even the meats were rubbed with cinnamon. The veggies, potatoes, soup...everything was sweet. We felt it was like eating dessert for dinner.
So if this is the type of food you like, you will love it. But as I said, it wasn't for us.

In my opinion if you drive your own car nothing is to far in Disney. We do Cape May for dinner everytime we are in Disney its becoming a ritual. We have done Boma once,I liked it but the wife and kids didn't.Now my kids eat "everything" so they did try different things but most dishes have an african flair to them so the taste just turned them off.Everyone is different so I say just try it.Everything in Disney is worth trying at least once...:lmao:

Have to disagree regarding Boma. There was nothing "sweet" about the pasta salad, falafel, hummus (several delicious kinds), potato bacon soup or the mushroom soup. I know there's more, but those things in particular stand out in my mind. The kids' bar was typical kids' food - nothing exotic or uncharacteristically sweet. Can't speak to the meats, as I'm vegetarian, but my husband LOVED all the meat that he tried. He actually thought I was crazy for booking Boma because we're not buffet fans, but he was blown away.

It's a must-do for us now. We've never tried Cape May for dinner, but we LOVE it for breakfast. It's a must-do as well.

Have a great trip!

Love Cape May for both breakfast and dinner. You can do the bus to HS and boat to BC which is very easy to do but if you want to drive you are only talking about roughly a 15 minute drive from WL to BC which we wouldn't think is bad for dinner.

If you are visiting Epcot or the Studios that day, you would not have to drive to Cape May as it is located at the Epcot resorts connected by walkway and boat.

We visited Boma and found it to be a very nice buffet; however, my DH said once was enough. The Cape May buffet menu really didn't look like anything special to me, so I have not added it to the list of "must-do" places to eat. From a location perspective, driving at WDW isn't a big deal IMHO.

Cape May for dinner and Boma for breakfast, yes it is worth it

Cape May for breakfast and Boma for dinner, no it isnt worth it (and we love CMBreakfast but it is similar to Chef Mickeys and Crystal Palace)

We loved Boma on our last visit, and it's now a must-do for us. Some dishes were exotically spiced, but I expected (and loved) that! There were plenty of standard "American" dishes on the buffet as well that were great, and as someone else mentioned the kids' area of the buffet has all of the standard kid-friendly choices. The desserts were divine. Boma is totally worth the drive, in my opinion.

I have not been to Cape May, but we have an ADR for dinner for our November trip. Really looking forward to it!

Boma was WONDERFUL. I have a very picky group and are not easily pleased with anything. We are going back to Disney in 6 weeks and the first reservation everyone wanted was Boma. I totally recommend it and so does my Family.

have fun!

Keep in mind that the AKL is an attraction itself. If you go with that in mind, I think that going to Boma becomes even more worth it. Personally, I think that the food is good too.

Cape May is also good. I might do as someone already said and take the bus to DHS and then the boat to the resort. That sounds more fun than driving.

Boma is excellent and totally worth going to the AKL just to look around the hotel. Go with plenty of time to animal watch!

I agree with PP about scheduling the meals at Cape May and Boma when you might be near the parks that day (Epcot and AK, repectively). Then, you can drive to the park, head out for your meal (via walking or Disney transporation), then head back to park to tour more or get car.

If you want to stay near WL, Fort Wilderness has Mickey's Backyard BBQ (seasonally) and Trail's End Buffet. Also, WL has Artist Point (signature restaurant) and Whispering Canyon Cafe. And, as you noted, the monorail resorts in the MK area are easy to reach via boat from the WL, so they offer some good choices.

Both of those locations are "worth the drive"....it's about 4 miles away

make sure you go potty before you get into the car and pack refreshments for the ride

Are you talking breakfast or dinner?

We stayed at WL last June. We had done Boma for dinner and not breakfast. Decided to try breakfast. Planned it on a DTD/DQ day. I hate the DTD bus more than any other so I thought it was brilliant to plan a resort breakfast on a day I wanted to drive anyway. It WAS a great plan. It was totally worth it. Boma breakfast ROCKS!

Tip: If you or anyone in your party likes specialty coffee drinks, they aren't included in the cost of the buffet at Boma, however, Mara, the CS just around the way has a coffee bar and you can get a specialty coffee drink for a snack credit there.

This time, we're at ASSp. Havent' been to CMC since Chip and Dale left and Donald came in. Donald is DSs fav and we had such an awesome experience at CMC when we went several years ago, so this is our destination breakfast on our DTD/DQ day. It's our one CB and it will be OOP. It will be totally worth it for us.

Do you see how the meal fitting into your vacation plans makes a difference on whether or not it is "worth it" to me?

For dinner...if it fits with your plans, then I think Boma dinner would be worth it. I loved it. Super yummy to me. Even if you don't love it, the experience itself is unusual (there aren't many African inspired restaurants around where we live) and worth it.

Tip: If are among those that like the zebra domes, Mara has them for a snack credit. Go grab some to have for breakfast or a snack later before you leave AKL.

Haven't done CMC dinner yet...hasn't fit in our vacation plans. However, if you haven't tried Gelato and have room for it after the buffet...OMG...go to the BC Marketplace and get some! Super yummy!!!
