Is Bush The Worst President Ever?

Worst? That's subjective. How about the most arrogant? Or the most I-just-won't-listen-to-you-all governing party? It's not that he's useless or ineffective. It's the talking down, the lying, the insist that he knows what he's doing, the I-don't-care-what-you-say attitude that is driving me crazy.

How did we get to this point in just 4 years? I still feel very unsafe. Iraq, the economy, environment, no direction whatsoever.

I agree. I want to go into the arm forces some day, and am glad he wont be president then...I want Hilary!!!

We could have had this 'conversation' in the 80's when Ronald Reagan was president. The media attacked him from all angles, every professor on every campus maligned him, his own party attempted to distance themselves from him, Europeans hated him and he was met with thousands of protestors everywhere. The big lie was that ketchup was a vegtable, and there were those on the left that called for his impeachment. Now, under the perspective of time, most realize that he has been the best modern president and is most beloved, although every policy he had at the time was attacked. President Bush's low numbers are higher than the last seven president's low numbers. I think, that he has the potential to be one of the best presidents of modern times but that won't be seen until he is out of office for several years, as it always is. Conversely, I think the revelations of Able Danger will show Clinton to be right "down there" with Jimmy Carter.

You know, I used to be afraid of a Hilary presidency. I used to get the chills just thinking about it.

But having endured George W's surprisingly inept presidency has toughened me up somewhat. Seriously, what could be worse than having Bush as the president for another 4 years?

So that's one thing Bush has going for him. He makes other potential incompetent Presidents seem not so bad by comparison.

Ah, the much maligned Jimmy Carter. I'll be the first to admit the man had the worst choice in advisors in recent history but the recession we experienced under his reign actually had it's start with Mr. Nixon and JFK's started in 1958 with Eisenhower. I won't even go into Reagan's spending and borrowing spree. I pity the poor man or woman who is going to inherit the gargantuan deficit mess that Bush seems determined to fatten until his last minute in office. I just hope we can somehow recover and still have a economy for our grandchildren!

Continuing your theme here, maybe the economic boon we had during the Clinton years was due to Reagan's tax cuts. ;)

George W Bush: The Republican Jimmy Carter

:rotfl: Nice try. Our economy is better now and we're defending our country instead of letting terrorists kidnap Americans.

I prefer actual leadership than governing by "focus group". Clinton didn't take a vacation unless he "focused grouped" the time and location first. If you feel "unsafe" you had best consider who was in great part, responsible for leaving you that way. Clinton was offered Bin Laden and refused him because he wasn't sure "what to charge him with". He saw the war on terrorism as a law enforcement issue instead of a war against a determined enemy. Able Danger will be the retroactive scandal that will make Watergate look like a day at the park.

Dawn, every president has critics. Every single thing every single president has ever done has been attacked by somebody somewhere. In this Reagan was no different than Clinton or Bush. I realize that Bush apologists are feeling a little defensive right now. I understand as I too am a Republican. It hurts to admit this. But incompetence is as incompetence does. And Bush is very very incompetent. At some point we conservatives have to be honest with ourselves. The emperor isn't wearing any clothes and it about time we acknowledged this very obvious fact.

Yes, Reagan was great president. But we conservatives knew that a long time ago. There was never any real doubt. Bush isn’t half the man Reagan was. I can accept that. What hurts, though, is the dawning realization that Bush isn’t half the man Clinton was either. OUCH.

Well Bush certainly has no problem deciding to take a vacation :rotfl2:

I voted for Bush and wish I never did. But it was my first election and my views have change a lot since then. Or "flip-flopped" as Republicans like to say. I don't like Bush and am tired of him.

What President Reagan didn't have was 24 hour cable news on the attack 24/7. What Clinton did have was the Hollywood elite and the 'media' defending him at every turn. If you remember, it was Drudge that broke the story that Newsweek was not going to print. It was the media that maligned Ken Starr while defending Clinton, ignoring the claims of Kathleen Willie and Juanita Brodrick and painting Paula Jones and Gennifer Flowers as trailer trash. Who said, "if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth". Goebels I think it was. Louis Freeh said that the FBI was so busy investigating Clinton scandals that it distracted from Clinton's job and the FBI's as well.

Saddam continually fired on our planes patrolling the 'no fly' zone. It was only a matter of time before the sanctions would have come down and the French,Germans and Russians would have resumed the arms dealing with him. Are you not aware of the "oil for food" scandal? Apparently sanctions were relatively worthless. Salmon Pac was a training site in Iraq for Al Queda. Saddam gave $25K to the families of Palestinian Suicide/homocide bombers. Even Evan Thomas/Newsweek said the other day that if we hadn't gone to war with Saddam when we did, we would be at war with him now because of the direction Saddam was heading. The reforms in the middle east are beginning to take hold. Its easy to stick your head in the rabbit hole and if only a few rabbits are missing here and there assume that you live in a safe warren but we didn't live in a safe warren, we were vunerable and someone needed to turn that around.

I must be the only one who thinks Reagan was a terrible president. He never did anything to help the poor, only his rich friends. Bush is a lot like that too. Until he became president I never thought Reagan was that good of an actor. I didn't trust him and I don't trust Bush.

If the next three years are like the last five, he will certainly be considered among the worst presidents. I actually find the fact that some of you who voted for him are now disillusioned encouraging. If all his majority were saying he was a good president, talking about his "leadership" :rotfl: and defending him by bringing up Clinton and poor old Jimmy Carter, I would be more worried about our country.

Again Marybet, that is the myth. President Reagan lowered tax rates for everyone. A rising tide floats all boats. That includes the row boats and the canoes, not just the yachts. He turned the economy around. He dismantled the Soviet Union and debunked the myth of communism. He freed MILLIONS of Eastern Europeans without firing a shot. He said what he meant and he meant what he said. Nicaragua was totally communist before Ronald Reagan and now is totally free. The former dictator Daniel Ortega ran in the last election and LOST. These are accomplishments that weren't seen at the time he was president because there were those like you, who chose not to see them. They are indeed evident now.

I think worst ever is questionable. In the last 50 years? No contest. :)

Hmm, lets change that around just a little bit:

What President Reagan didn't have was 24 hour cable news on the attack 24/7. What Bush did have was the Bush Apologists and the 'Right Wing media' defending him at every turn. It was the media that maligned Richard Clark while defending Bush, ignoring the claims of Brent Scowcroft and Colonel Wilkerson and painting Cpt. Ian Fishback as traitors. Who said, "if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth". Goebels I think it was. But Bush and Rove sure went to town on this advice. Their capacity for lying is truly astounding. Paul O'Neill said that Bush was so busy trashing Clinton that it distracted from Bush’s ability to handle the threat of terrorism.

You can call it a myth but I believe it. I think he just happened to be president when the Soviet Union fell, he certainly didn't dismantle it himself. He may have lowered tax rates but like Bush, the rich benefited the most. JMHO.
