According to the UT app (at 5:25pm ET), BTMR is open with a wait of 120+ minutes. Is this true? If so, it must not be in that bad of shape, so I guess I don't need to worry about having it closed for my trip in early June.
And I have it from a very reliable source that when the work started the Imagineers found deeper problems than originally though and their expected reopening will be some time in August.
Also, a couple of days ago I checked the internal list of Rehabs and it showed BTMRR closed through May 27. I would bet on the Imagineers!

I saw the same thing, but i think that the UT app is having some major issues, right now at 9:42 pm eastern, it shows wait times of 120+ min waits for every attraction at AK
not open last week...and majorly dismantled on the back, too. Riding the train around the park you could see dozens of guys working on Big Thunder...and looked like lots of track was off the mountain too.

All these threads started by the same erroneous info reminds me of one over on the cruise boards over the weekend. There was like three pages of posts debating a hidden mickey in the chandelier in the atrium of the Dream. It was clearly a stinking single piece of errant Mickey-head confetti that got stuck up there.

Not to be rude, but I really hope the Imagineers have miscalculated. We love BTMR and would hate to see both TT and BTMR closed during our trip. Not to mention, there are supposedly improvements being made to KS at DAK while we will be there. I just have a hard time seeing Disney close TWO headliners during the same summer, one of the busiest times of the year, plus modifying another. Oh well, we will still have fun otherwise. No use in complaining.
On another note, UT now has BTMR listed as "closed." I agree with hakepb. Someone probably confused Barnstormer with BTMR or just simply misread a sign.
I have been reading lately on a few other fan sites that the rumors floating around about the refurb going into August were just not true and it is on schedule to open at the end of May.
It says May 27th on the official Disney World website...so that's what I'm counting on.
...Hopefully that won't change. Besides the overhead pics I've been seeing makes it look like they are wrapping things up. I could be wrong though. Sigh.
A bit of a surprise to see this back on the front page.
Anyways, I answered my own question. After doing a lot research, I posted a "follow-up post" just yesterday. It looks to me that it WILL open as scheduled on May 27 based on the latest pictures. I am staring up a blog on Disney News (it is nowhere near finished) but a posted this update with pictures I gathered from other sites. Here's the link:
a lot of times the rides will have soft openings like the week before its supposed to open, like last year with star tours i just so happened to be there and got to go on it a week before it opened.
