Is Bag check still a thing?

How is bag check at park entry working these days? Is this still done? Or do you just carry your bags through the metal detectors? We are going in June, first trip in 5 years. Want to make things as easy/low contact as possible.

It's so easy now. Pull out of your bag anything metal like a metal drink container or umbrella or big phone charger. Hold it in front of you and walk through the metal detector.

If you have a stroller or wheelchair, only 1 person takes the stroller through the stroller area - the rest go through the metal detector area.

One big caveat that I learned with the new procedures. Eyeglass cases also set off the metal detector, so that's another thing to hold out in front of your body as you pass through the machine.

It is so much better than the old security dig through the bags line/mob scene.

I did not take one thing out of my bag this weekend (including metal water bottle and sunglass case) and I never got stopped. It was awesome! Took longer to take temperatures.

Yes! I'm local and we sometimes go to the parks to write while my husband walks around with our son. The first time we left my laptop under the stroller, but the diaper bag still got flagged because of my glasses. Now we put both under the stroller.

It's also soooooo much easier to do stroller check. They have me lower the canopy and show them there aren't any bags on the bottom. Sometimes they ask me to open the zippered storage, but not always.

How do ECVs work? They no longer go through a line with a table, where security looks in all the pockets with a flashlight?

Understood that you may need to take external batteries out, but what about cell phones? Will they set off the alarm if they remain in a bag?

My eye glass case set it off every time this past week. I even held it out in front of me after being called over to the bag check table a couple of times.. I also held out my cell phone just in case.

I've noticed that every time I go, they're barking something entirely different to take out of your bags and hold in your hands. On one occasion, it was extra battery chargers. On another, it was umbrellas. At Universal, they actually required belt removal due to the buckle.

I've always tried to bring as little as possible to the parks. If they don't fit in my pockets I have to really think about if it's really necessary to bring in.

I always pull anything out that may be flagged even if it's supposedly allowed to stay inside. Usually I just leave things like ponchos, towels, snacks, etc. in the bag.

We (DH in particular) have found a lot of variability in sensitivity of the scanners - the ones at one Epcot entrance might alarm and cause him to be wanded while he walks right through the one at the other entrance. And one time we were on our way up to board the monorail in the CR and he set off the alarm and was wanded several times - each time he'd take more out of his pockets, and it would alarm again. Turned out to be his silver money clip - which never set off any of the other new ones!

I had my external battery held out but still set off the detector. After a couple tries I figured out it was a small metal Altoids mint tin I use as an emergency kit. After that I only held that out and never got stopped.

Loved the walk through, so easy.
I just had to remember to remove even umbrellas as they set off the detector.

I'm the family sherpa when we go to the park so I have been stopped 3 of the 4 times so far this week. After the first time I took out my battery charger. Even holding it out didn't help the second time. The third time I didn't have my bag but in my pocket I had a small metal business card holder that I use to keep my ap, dvc, and gift cards in and they said that probably set it off. This morning I'll try and take both out. The line time I didn't get stopped though I think it was just because of some confusion. A little girl walked through right at the same time as me and the guard was distracted by something else, so I just speed walked past before they could say anything, lol.

Even getting stopped though the new process is so much better because they don't search everyone.
