Every time I've been to WDW (10 trips), Aunt Polly's on Tom Sawyer Island is never open. I know everything says "open seasonally" but what does that mean? We're going the first half of August this year and I'm wondering if it has historically been open at that time.

I've not seen it open during any of my trips - Jan, Feb, May or Oct :confused3

Unfortunately,Aunt Polly's has not been opened for quite some time. There are two "themed" vending machines there and that's it.:)

Closed forever? :( That is sad to hear. It was open back when we were at MK in August, 2006 and we had a decent view of the afternoon parade and some ice cream there after our boys went searching for paintbrushes on the island. I hope they bring it back.

VERY disappointing. The ice cream menu there would have been just the ticket on a hot day.

We were last August - it was scorching hot and I thought I had a great idea. Go over to Tom Sawyer's Island, get ice cream at Aunt Polly's and take a little break. I couldn't believe they were closed. :confused3 I was crushed, I really wanted an ice cream.

Ice Cream at Aunt Polly's was always a memorable tradition...
and I remember long ago when my kids were really little we got ham and cheese sandwiches there, just plain and simple, like mom would pack in a lunch. They were a nice switch from regular park food.
I'm sad to hear they are closed, why is it do you think?

Historically? Of course. Aunte Polly's was, once upon a time, open year-round. So was the canteen at Fort Sam Clemens.

Of course, times change. The canteen has been closed for years now, the Fort is now named "Fort Langhorn" ('cause Sam Clemens is the cub pilot on the Liberty Belle Riverboat these days), and Aunt Polly's is also closed, home to the only two Coca-Cola vending machines in the Magic Kingdom.

Aunt Polly's is closed for good. The "Open Seasonally" bit is there to cover them should they decide to reverse their decision -- and there are a few things that could cause Aunt Polly's to reopen. But I don't see it happening.

It is inaccessible to 98% (or so) of guests.
Er, no. It's accessible to just about anyone who chooses to board a raft and ride over to the island -- and it has been since 1973 or so.

Of course, you and I both know that most guests (no doubt the "98%" you reference) will choose not to go over to TSI, as there are no rides on the island, and rides/shows/attractions are plentiful these days at the Magic Kingdom. But still, hundreds, if not thousands, of guests visit TSI daily.

The reason Aunt Polly's is closed is simply that it was no longer making enough money to justify keeping it open. WDW is a business, after all.

I had my first ham and cheese sandwich at Aunt Polly's, I've loved ham and cheese ever since. I know it's been closed down for a few years, they should really bring it back.

:( Found out last July that it was closed forever and we were extremely sad! We used to love getting snacks there and sitting at the tables just taking in the sights and sounds.

This is where I point out that there's nothing keeping you from taking snacks (or meals) over to the Island, sitting down at Aunt Polly's, and taking in said sights and sounds. :) The tables and chairs are all there, waiting for guests.

It was open in 1987. That's the last time I remember seeing it open! At least when we've been there.

DisFlan

Oh my. I never thought of that. What a perfect place for a picnic! Now that's on my list of to do's. Thanks!

if my memory serves me correctly i believe it was open in july of 2005. i do remember sitting in a rocking chair watching the parade go by and my son remarking just how glad he was that we werent over there in that crowd. what made the moment better was my wife brought us over ice cream and sodas. it was just heavenly!!!

what made it even better was when i leaned back in the rocking chair after enjoying my treats i saw the famous tom saywer paintbrush in the rafters.

Thanks for the great idea! :) I wasn't sure if the tables and chairs were still accessible.
