Is AP right now that we're DVC?

I know the right thing to do is to buy the A.P. pass. We are going for 9 nights in June, probably 3 in November, and most likely again in March for a week or so. Altogether, I'd say we'd like to be in the parks about two-thirds of those days or maybe 11 days total.

If it was just the A.P. purchase, I could probably bite the bullet and pay for it, feeling I was getting a decent deal, but seeing as Disney Quest is my son's favorite thing to do at Disney, it would seem we would either need to buy a Disney Quest A.P. in addition to regular A.P. OR buy a P.A.P. When I add up these costs--what is it? --about 500 for a P.A.P. (or A.P. and D.Q. A.P.) it comes to quite a hefty chunk of change.

I wish there was some intermediary sort of pass for DVC--like 12 days in a year pass or something to that extent.

Any ideas on what to do with this? I know it's the age old question.

I'd bite the bullet and go with the AP. I know that you claim you will only be in the parks "11 days total", but think of the flexibility you will have for those non-park days. If you decide you want to go into one of the parks for a souvenir or meal or late-night fireworks display, you don't need to worry about the stigma of using a hopper day.

You're looking at being on-site for 20 days or more in the AP year. I think you will regret not purchasing the APs, even if hoppers do save you a couple dollars.

The breakeven point is 7-8 park days, so you are well over that. Pre-tax cost for an Adult AP is $379 adult, $322 child under 10. The APs for DQ are $79 and $63 respectively, while PAPs run $499 and $424, respectively.

If you're gonna do APs for the park and DQ, but not visiting any of the water parks at all, then these two APs are gonna be best. 2 days at the water parks or PI will make the PAP worth it.

For a really good discussion of when it pays to buy APs, click on this link for Deb's AllEarsNet.com .

Sounds like a good year!

If your son is the only one who likes DQ, why not get the regular AP's for yourself, and just the one PAP?
We decided to buy AP's this year...it's really a different feeling to know your not "wasting" a day's pass by going in for a short trip to the park, having a PS in one of the parks, just going for the fireworks, etc.
Fun, fun, fun!!::yes::

Our family gets 4 PAPs about every 16-18 months. The freedom to come and go at all the theme parks, water parks, and DisneyQuest is great! Our kids love the water and on a 6 day visit we're likely to hit both water parks and every theme park at least once.

Before dropping the cash I did the math and the PAPs save us a ton of money. If your kid is only interested in DisneyQuest, AP for everyone and one DQ AP for your son might be the best deal.

Don't forget about the discounts you get with an AP or PAP, they can seem small but they really add up.

If you have any AP you find out you will go to the parks everyday. Even the day you arrive. When we go we drive from MI and get to Disney around 2pm and we get our room shower and all that stuff(we drive straight through--20 hours). Then we go to Epcot to eat and watch the fireworks. We would not be able to do this if we didn't have AP's. And it gets you in the mood of Disney right away. Buy the AP's and don't look back.

I agree...We normally didn't purchase Annual Passes until our last visit in February.

Due to our length of stay, an AP was the thing to buy. It sure was a nice feeling the day of check-out to run over to EPCOT for an hour and not feel guilty about "burning a day" on our ticket.

It is also nice knowing that if you can get cheap airline tickets you can just "head home" for a day or two.

DH figured it out, and if you are going to spend more than 8 days in WDW parks, the AP is the way to go.

From the sound of your travel schedule, I think you'll be there more than 8 days. Even if I don't spend a day in the park, I like to have the ability to go in for dinner or just the fireworks or something without having to worry about "burning" a day. DVC makes for a more rleaxed vacation, and kind of gets you out of the mind frame of "commando" touring, so you may not spend all day every day in a park. But, say you're staying at the BCV or BWV and decide you want to go eat in Canada in Epcot. With an AP you can do that without worrying.

I like the freedom of it.
