If anyone is in the process of reading "Under the Dome" by Stephen King, how are you liking it so far?

Or if you're a fast reader and have gotten through the entire 1074 page monster-of-a-book, what did you think?

I saw it at K-Mart a couple weeks ago for $27, but couldn't justify spending that much, especially if I started reading it and didn't even like it!

I see it's $14.50 on Amazon...

I listened to King himself read about 6 minutes of, I think, the very first chapter and from what I heard it sounds great!

I'm "on the waiting list" for it at the library and I'm next to be called. I really just want to read the first few chapters, to see if I want to put it on my Christmas "wish list." If I don't like it, there's no point in having it. But if I like it I would like to have my own copy.

So, I'm just wondering what everyone else is thinking about the book.

I ued to be a great fan of King's, but I don't read as much as I used to. An excerpt from the book was printed in a recent Entertainment Weekly, where he's a guest columnist. It certainly seems he hasn't lost his touch.

I am about halfway through it now. I gotta say, I'm really enjoying this one. Have been VERY disappointed with his books over the last 10-15 years. This seems like the "old" Stephen King, although there is no "horror" aspect to it like Pet Cemetery or It. The book is horrible for sure but more in a bad society/bad people behavior sort of thing. Besides the Dome itself, I haven't seen too much supernatural/monstor stuff.

I paid $18.99 at Costco for it.

I have finished it. I actually have a paper due on it tonight lol
It was the first book by Stephen King I have read and I liked it but at certain times I just wanted him to get to the point instead of dragging it out.

I'm hold #58 of 279 as of right now at my library. There are 130 copies in the system so hopefully won't be too long. On a side note, I'm in Allegheny county which is essentially Pittsburgh and all the libraries from the various communities are tied together online. Gotta Love it! I just put the request in, tell them which library I want to pick it up at and then just sit back and wait.

I just finished it Saturday night and I absolutely LOVE it! The only thing that was hard for me was keeping all of the people straight, there are so many!

I bought it for my Husband for Christmas, but he better read fast because I was to read it on my vacation too!!

I'm on page 238...so far so good...Though i have to say I really like his book where "someone" sent signals through all the cell phones in the world that made people crazy. It reminded me of his old books. Just believable enough that makes you go "hummmm"...i have to admit, i was kind of leary about using my cell for a couple of weeks after reading it:confused3...

maybe it is because I had to write a paper on the effect of technology on the human condition in this book BUT this book definitely made me think and feel slightly uncomfortable about society today.

I just bought it but I'm waiting to read it while I visit DH's family for Christmas. They usually only watch spanish t.v. and I don't speak spanish. I figure while they watch their soap operas at night, I'll read my new book!:)

I'm glad to hear good things about this book!! I just ordered this for my Mom last night. Barnes & Nobles.com had it for 17.99. :)

I got it when Amazon had it for 9.00! I plan on starting it on the 19th... the in-laws are taking the kids on a cruise :cool1:.

Is it scary or gory like his other books? It looks like it would be good but I don't like his "typical" books just to scary for me

I made myself wait until the weekend so I could read it in pretty much one go. I enjoyed it, it's not my favorite but I felt it was a bit more old school than some of his more recent works. It reminded me of Cell, and there were a few ick moments but it wasn't all gore. For the $9 Amazon pre-order price, I was very happy with it.

I'm reading it now & am really enjoying it. I was drawn into the story right from the beginning & can't wait to spend some time reading it over the weekend.

This is definitely going on my Christmas list....something EASY for DBF to get.

But I wonder....will this book mess you up??? Some of his books have completely blown my mind....for real. Ya know, like The Dark Tower series or It.

But I love it anyway. lol
