Is anyone NOT middle class?

Wait a minute, don't the DVC'ers have to cook in their units? I think the deluxes might have one up on them. :confused3
We don't HAVE to! ;) :rotfl: Some may choose too, we use the stove to maybe boil some water for tea and that's about it.

I do own DVC, but would never stay in the deluxes on a regular basis, out of my budget..so I agree that the deluxe is up on DVC.

I can see through all of your stealthy talk! This is another "tag fairy" thread disquised as an economic lesson!

Other side of the trackers: non-tagged

Buffets and Gates: tagged

I'm at 91% thanks to my education, but that NYT thing doesn't take into account STUDENT LOAN DEBT!!!! (take that into consideration, and I'm sure I drop by 50%!!)

i don't think that is correct. i think people often are considered middle class based on education rather than salary. a lot of people in academia, for example, do not make much money (especially when first starting) but are generally considered middle class.

i don't know what proportion non monetary issues should account for, but i definitely think there is more to class than money alone. otherwise, why would we have the term nouveau riche?

Absolutely true. I think that education is probably the greatest of the four in terms of class perception.

We scored 78% and in the top fifth for income. I find that very hard to believe. Neither of our jobs scored very high (dh is an Operations Manager and I am a paraeducator/teaching assistant).

The Disney Version:
Lower class: values
Middle class: moderates
Upper class: deluxe
Wealthy: DVC

DVC is a bargain compared to deluxes. That is why it is such a good deal. I'd put DVC as upper middle and deluxe as wealthy.

I am DVC and definately not wealthy. :teeth:

I did the NY Times thing and it said 72 percentile. ???

We were 89 percentile. Don't know that that exactly means though. 89% of who or what?

LOL! I agree! It isn't a vacation if I have to look at a stove!

OMG I've been tagged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just noticed this!!

it means that you are "above" or equal to 89% of the us population.

Well DUH. Guess that doesn't take intelligence into consideration does it~! LOL!

This is a funny thing my DH is in the 78th % when I did his alone and I am in the 83% and yet he has 3 degrees and I have none . I think the Firefighter thing got him LOL
Do it together and we are "rich" bawwhahaa someone needs to tell them so they can send us our money : )

Well I am a bit amazed. We scored in the 88th percentile. Maybe I did something wrong (but I don't think I did.) It sure made our situation seem better then I think it is. There is on way on earth I would think of our income or status being that high. Nor do I think anyone who knows us would think that.

I think DH's education skewed it a bit (PhD) but even if I put my education and salary MSW (before being a SAHM) it was higher then I thought it would be. I know people with Bachelors degrees(or less, skilled trades) that make TONS more then DH.

I just don't think of us being up that high. It seems like most people we know have more $ then us, or at least spend it more freely.

Oh we own DVC and think that scale is pretty :rotfl: . If we didn't we would be staying at values or mods with codes. DVC is how we can afford our trips to WDW. (oh we own 170 points, are in a constant state of borrowing and mostly stay in studios.) :rotfl: No grand villas here. ;)

For being a full time college student/full time retail worker I didn't do that bad.

53%

And once I graduate in 14 months...I should be at 73% if I get a job as soon as I graduate :D

I also scored higher than I thought. Granted, my education level was 99%. Of course, until recently a big chunk of my income was spent PAYING for that education!

Interesting. My income came out at 94 but my occupation only 70! It seems like I shouldnt be broke!

I may not have prestige, but I'm making 90's otherwise. the same for my wife.

LOL--Me Too!!

BUT I'm still paying!

I noticed that Doctorate was the highest degree yet only a 99. This reminds me of a profesor in college who wouldn't give A's.

Where's the 100?

What is interesting to me is that for education and employment, we are in the middle class...for income and wealth we are in the top 5%, LOL????? That top 5% has a super broad range, doesn't make sense to me.

Is the top 5% really 100,000 per year and above?

Occupation-51%
Education-48%
Income-93%
Wealth-85%
Average-69%
