A few months ago on our way back from Atlantic city we stopped at a bar/restaurant off of the Garden state parkway on a Sunday morning. They had the best Sunday brunch. We thought it was in Manahawkin but cant seem to find it! When you enter theres a huge bar and tables, and in the back there two pool tables. I really wish we got the name of the place as we would love to go back. Its somewhere around exit 63 but its not on route 72. Any ideas? thanks!

I grew up in Manahawkin, go back regularly, and you've stumped me. Though if this Calloways is good, I can't wait to tell the parents. They're desperate for a good restaurant in town.

ETA: Hey, is this where Picadilly Pub used to be?

I haven't been there myself, but I've heard the Sunday brunch is excellent. And yes, I believe it is where Picadilly's was.

Thanks for the info! I checked out their website but i dont think its that restaurant, as i dont remember an amusement park next door.

Do you remember anything else about the area?

I drove by Calloways last summer and don't remember an amusement park...unless it's behind it or something.

I say skip the brunch and get a cheesesteak! If I was in Manahawkin, I'd eat a cheesesteak a couple times a week and I'd be sooo happy!!

You are always talking about Philly food. :) I have in mind just to mail you some Tastykakes! (I don't think a cheesesteak would mail well)

Thanks everyone! We are going to AC tonight and are going to try and stop again to find this restaurant. I feel like maybe we were in the twilight zone! I remember they had a nice Sunday Brunch in the morning and the guys had a blast playing pool. And also, i know what you mean about tasty cakes and krumpets, everytime I go visit my sister in North Carolina where she lives, I have to bring her a huge box of them!

You just made me think of Rutt's Hut on River Road in Clifton. Our parents used to take us there when we were little. Best hot dogs! And the other food is great, too! Then they would take us somewhere nearby that had a bunch of trampolines...all different colors.

Sometimes I REALLY miss those days.

I would kill for a Kandy Kake or Krumpet right about now.

Hmm.. I have a box of Chocolate Kreamy's and choc. cupcakes in my pantry right now.

A local store sells them really cheaply-- so my kids take them in thier lunches. I ate the Fruit and Yogurt breakfast bars this week for breakfast.. they were really good!

It wasn't Mastoris, was it? It's in Bordentown and I don't have any idea if that is near Manahawkin. I don't think they have pool tables though.:)

Mastoris is not near Manahawkin. My family lives near Mastoris, and it is good.

Do you remember what it was next to, it does sound like it is where Fabian's used to be (does anyone else remember when it was the Olde Towne Tavern?)

I never knew they were even open for a brunch. My favorite brunch used to be on the island at the Quarterdeck.

Me me me! I remember Old Town Tavern! I remember going there for a cast parties and softball team parties and having the humungazoid pizza. How big were those things?

The Quarterdeck had a really nice brunch. I hosted a bridal shower there for my best friend. Actually, that was where my baby shower was too.

There were two places here in Chicago that used to ship in Tastykakes, but both stores are gone now. :sad1:
