I am, for my writing class. Oprah is having a contest or something and everyone in the class is going to enter.

I'm on page 77. It's really hard stuff to read.. :sad1:

I had just started teaching it to my 9th graders when Oprah named it to her book club this month. (Needless to say, my 9th graders didn't care.)

They DO appreciate (enjoy isn't the appropriate word) the book, though. Many of my reluctant readers have come into class this week asking, "Can we read today?"

It's a hard book to read. There are years when I can barely teach it. I'm very careful in presenting it to the kids. Today we spent almost an hour talking about the passage in chapter 2, I think, when he says, "I will never forget that night...."

Funny enough my son had to read this for school over winter break. I pulled it out of his book bag during break and read it in a night. It was a pretty easy read and hard to put down.

oops. Just thought I should correct myself. I didn't mean it was easy to read as in not moving. I just meant easy as in short, very interesting.

I've read it before. It's heartwrenching. :(
