Is anyone else completely freaked out about may now?

Not that we're going in May, but wish we did. But anyways... make sure you take advantage of the EMH in the morning and night. You'll be surprise how much rides/attractions you can do during EMH. Also take advantage of the FP. This is a MUST during busy times. And one more thing... don't get freaked out! Just enjoy.. take it easy. This is a vacation, it shouldn't stress you out. Plan..plan..plan.. and plan it well. You will do just fine.

Don't worry about it! Us up in the northeast have spring break, that's why it's going up! :)

I don't think it will be as busy as in July (when we normally have gone in the past) and if it is at least it will not be as H.O.T. ! ! ! !

Hard to believe there are so many people up North having Spring Break and we are in our last weeks at school down South!! :)

I bet Disney saw the potential for up in attendance and that is why codes and AP rates where not very low this year.
I hope all of you have a wonderful time!!

Our first trip with our family to WDW we booked as novices not realizing it was President's Day week!!! We found out after we had everything reserved and we were very upset. It was crowded, but you only noticed it at MK. We used our fast pass and were able to hit all the attractions we wanted to see (some twice).

Now we booked another trip right before the anniversay announcement and it is for the Celebration week (I can't win). However, I have a good attitude about it. We are going to avoid the MK on the 5th and go to SeaWorld that day and maybe try the MK at night. We are just going to use our fast pass and have a great time no matter how heavy the crowds are.

No I'm not too worried. Even if the crowds are bad, just remember to have a magical time. After all, you're on VACATION!

Don't forget to get your prescription(s) refilled, and you should be fine. :teeth:

I've been stressing on all the May info. First, I found out that Regis and Kelly were taping a few shows there. (My quote for that, "That Stupid talk show is gonna ruin our vacation!") Then I read the boards from Len about crowd numbers for our vacation. (Let's just say...I used some very UN-Disney like words about that!) All this coupled with my having trouble finding subs to cover all the aerobics classes I teach (I have to find 11 subs.)
Last night was my hubby's breakin' point. As I'm freakin' out(putting it mildly), my hubby grabbed and kissed me saying, "Honey, it's a Vacation! You got every guide, official/unofficial guides out there.... Just enjoy. Let it go! We'll have a great time!"
Talk about snapping me back to reality. I've planned the vacation, I have my guides, PS's.. Now, I just need to sit back and wait for the vacation.
Hopefully, all the other OCC Disney Planners can "let it go" as well..

I see no reason getting freaked out...it is what it is....you are in disney..make the best of it....

a crowded day at WDW is better than any day at work

amen! worse comes to worse, we'll just hang out at the resort and eat at a lot of great restaurants. i'm just happy i won't be at work! :teeth:

Attention early Mayers....today the schedule has changed again. May 4th, MGM will be closing at 4:00PM. This is new this morning. I am off to take a look at my schedule and see if this will impact me. It is a evening EMH at MK, so my guess is that MK will be PACKED that night as one of the night time parks has just be eliminated for the evening.

Where are you getting these numbers from (the 7's and 8's)? I'd like to see it what website this information is on.

Honestly, and not to be facetious or insulting to those of you who are freaked out about May crowd numbers -- If I were worried about crowds of people in the first place, WDW would have been the last place in the world where I would have chosen to spend my vacation. I've always thought that crowds are just part of the deal when you choose to vacation at the World. :)

I understand your point, BUT there are several times a year when you can do WDW with very light crowds. I went in early October one year and we walked onto almost every ride...it was wonderful! Pretty much the same thing for my early December trip too and one trip I did in early March. It's a trade off though, because often during non-peak times, the parks close earlier, weather can be iffy and there will be more rides/attractions closed for refurbishment or whatever, but to me, it's worth it to avoid large crowds.

Some people work their vacations around non-peak times, take their kids out of school or whatever to avoid the really large crowds. Personally, I wouldn't go in the summer or during a peak holiday time if it were FREE, but that doesn't mean I can't/shouldn't ever go to Disney!

That being said, I'm not exactly "freaked out" about the May crowds, but I will be really disappointed if it's as busy as some think it might be.

I am nervous about the crowd level. I hate it when it is jammed pack and hour+ wait for the rides, even with fastpass. I grew up going spring break every year of my life and I intentionally go in low seasons b/c of it. Last trip the longest wait we had was 10 minutes, & that was rare! And, of course, this trip was just supposed to be fun & easy. Not easy to do in super heavy crowds with small children.

Oh well... I can't move the trip around. This is the only time we can go this year since I'm pregnant. We were supposed to go the week I'm due. And I'd rather be at Disney than at home. I'm just determined to make the best of it. Just have to bring some items to keep DS15 months occupied in those long lines. We'll all survive.

First of all, even if crowds are very high we will still have a great time. We have wanted to stay at WL for a while and we are finally doing it. Hey, some people choose to attend during xmas, Easter, Spring break etc. every year. It's all in what you are used to I guess.

As for why I think everyone is getting excited about the crowds this year? I call it the internet factor. Most all off the people we you discuss Disney with online are, how shall I say it... Disney Freaks! Buzz about a topic online can be like a snow ball rolling down a hill. Everybody gets talking about it online and it seems to build up. I think it's touring plan that's generates their crowd estimate is based on online touring plans stats. That could easily mean that more people who are online savvy are going in May than usual, not more people in general are going in May. And what portion of people at the parks at any given time spend time on disboards, mousesavers, Allears etc? I don't have the answer but I am gessing it is small. I do believe that a much larger portion of the devoted online Disney fans will be there. And the parks will be generally busier than the last few Mays, but I don't expect it to be anything like the real peak time.

The fun part about it is I could be totally wrong. Who really knows? We will find out when the trip reports start coming in, I guess. :earseek:

I couldn't agree more with this. The folks who are going to be going those first few weeks include a lot of die-hard fans who, like you said, are Disney freaks, chatting nonstop on the internet.

Having said that, I'm a tad nervous about the crowd levels, simply because we'll be a party of 8 (with small children), so hustling during the EMHs won't necessarily be quite so easy. However, I am happy that we've decided to do every other day as a park day, so if it is horribly crowded, we'll still gets tons done that we really want to do (great meals, shopping, spa, sightseeing, lounging at the pool, etc.). We'll see!

I'm not use to really large crowds but I'm going May 11th for 8 nights and I plan on dealing with it as I go... because we go every year and have no real need to be in the parks the entire time they're open.. we can relax and take it easy. That way if it is busy, we'll hit a few rides, walk around and then hit the resort pool. One of the best reasons for staying at the Yacht Club... the pool!!!

Good luck to all of us!!!

We'll be at SOG May 7-15. We'll go to the parks early in the mornings, pool time in the afternoons and out for dinner in the evenings with PSs. Hopefully this schedule will keep us from feeling too overwhelmed by crowds.

Traveling with a 5 year old, chances are he'll be more interested in the hotel pool than anything else. We'll just have to "Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee!". Hit the parks in the morning and get those first couple of hours of low crowds, dodge out of the parks in the afternoon, hit the pool and come back in the evening. It's vacation people! Don't let it get to you!

I understand some folks spend thousands upon thousands of dollars and spend years planning these trips, but let's take a minute to think about what a WDW vacation (or any vacation for that matter) is all about. It's not about how many rides you can squeeze into a day or how many lines you'll "have" to stand in. It's about spending quality time with your family and/or friends and making some magical memories that will last a lifetime. And hey, if you can manage to get soaked on Splash Mountain or accidentally swallow a fly while your jaw is wide open from the spectacular that is "Wishes", then that's the cherry on top of the cake.

I guess in short, in all the madness that is Walt Disney World, please don't forget to stop and smell the roses and to remember why it is you took that vacation in the first place.
